So enraged by the fact that Meshidawg was able to free Ravia that the spider missed completely!
It is your turn; but remember, the spider is still on the ceiling. If you use a sword or axe on it you have to first roll a Jump Check to see if you can reach it... the Difficulty of the Jump Check is only a 10 (if you have a modifier, make sure you add it).
You can still use ranged weapons on the giant spider, though.
Dain GM |
I will wait until tomorrow morning... not going to risk trying to jump without a modifier. Meanwhile... Can I upgrade my dagger?
Upgrade your dagger in the middle of a fight? No - I don't think that's possible... However, I believe I put up the list of Magical Spells that wizards can summon on your original Google Classroom - including the power and Mana it costs. If you look it up, you can probably use it :)
Also, your shield is ready to be picked up, or you can choose to keep it on the wall...
Dain GM |
Ignis uses firebolt in order to harm the spider."fulmine ignis,"she cries.
1d6+4
Ignis's bolt of fire rushes out and up and explodes into the belly of the spider.
The damage seems moderate at best, but suddenly the entire group is shocked as the web - which is nestled around the spider - quickly lights up like dry, brittle kindling!
The smell of burning flesh as the spider lets out a hideous sound is all that the heroes are aware of for a few moments.
The beast falls to the ground and its legs curl up into its body.
Pratap quickly rushes over and pushes his little paw into the corpse and gives it a little sniff of contempt and turns to you all.
Ravia watches the display of her little tiger cub and shakes her head then turns you both.
"Are any of you injured?" she asks.
"If not, we should continue to explore..."
Ravia |
"One second,"says Ignis, as the exits the cave. When she is outside she calls to her familiar in Ignin. Her eagle gently drifts as low as possible and the fox jumps. Ignis catches him neatly in her arms. She then reenters the cave."Now I am ready."
"Wha... wha?" Ravia says with shock at Ignis's sudden uneventful exit through the tunnels as she then summons a giant eagle flying high above in the heavy rainstorm who is carrying a firefox and then encourage the giant eagle to swoop down, drop off the firefox, fly away into the rainstorm and then hover around the entrance to the cave while Ignis is then able to quickly return through the tunnels with no issue whatsoever.
Meanwhile, Pratap lays on the ground and puts his paws on his face covering his eyes.
Ravia then looks at Ignis.
"Sorry, that was pretty surprising was all," she says with a small grin.
"Well, now that we have that taken care of - now what?" she asks, curious to see what Meshidawg and Ignis will do next.
Ravia |
"Is there anything deeper in the cave, if so, let's go deeper. Ignis, create a light to see anything deeper." Meshidawg suggests
Ravia nods her head.
"There must be something bigger in here," she says as she peers about.
"After all, we tracked a troll to this very location - surely the troll is inside... And if the troll has been robbing people I would wager we may not only defeat the troll but we may find whatever treasures it has taken from other heroes in the past."
"Of course, it seems somewhat unethical to take the loot of fallen heroes for ourselves without trying to return it to the rightful owners," she adds.
Pratap lets out a horrified little gasp at the prospect of finding treasure and giving it away instead of keeping it for yourselves.
Ravia looks at Pratap.
"Well, I suppose if we do find any treasure I guess we could just keep it ourselves," she says and Pratap lets out a little sigh of relief.
Realizing that Ignis has not cast a spell to light the place, she does so herself.
Light spell seen - Here -.
"Alright, which way shall we go?" she asks the others.
Moving forward they found a smaller room with nothing in it but the remains of fallen heroes covered in spider webs.
"Should we search the remains to find loot?" she asks the others.
Ravia will wait for the others to search the loot.
Dain GM |
”Of course, it could be easier to do this.”Ignis taps her staff on the ground, and suddenly the webs and dust disappear.
** spoiler omitted **
If you can use Harry Potter spells, so can I :)
But the Light spell is a spell that is on our spell list! Whoever heard of a cleaning spell??? Well, other than Hogwarts, I guess :p
Pratap |
*Meshidawg opens loot bag*
Can you please tell me whats inside.
You find inside some gems; you are not sure how valuable they are, but you know they are very expensive. Also, you find a strange Ring and finally an Amulet which looks fairly heavy - almost as if it was made for an animal, not a person...
Pratap gives you both a look as if to say - Well, are you going to see if any of this stuff is magical, or not? And what do these things do, exactly? And how much are those gems worth? And will you give me half of them or all of them? As a sweet little tiger cub, how can you turn me down?
Ravia |
Ignis; both the Ring and Amulet are magical...
Ravai peers at them.
"Let me see..." she says thoughtfully as she first stares at the ring.
Lore Check-
1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 4 = 29
Her eyes widen.
"This is a very powerful ring," she says.
"If a wizard possesses it their natural Defense is automatically raised," she adds Bonus of +4 to Defense if a Wizard wears it, if a non-wizard wears it is only a +2 "but that's not all. This ring belonged to an ancient Elven Wizard who was also a Mind Healer - on it is written - Túra Incánus which, when rendered in the Common Tongue, means - The Great Mind Master..."
She studies it a bit more.
"The one who wears this Ring not only gains the bonus of Defense, but they also gain a bonus to their ability to Bargain and Observe - To move the minds of those who would daunt and deceive us and to see those things hidden from the eyes of Elves and Men and finally it lets anyone who can use Mana to be able to better hide from threats; for here it is also written upon it - To veil our form from enemies," she adds, clearly impressed.
Bonus of +2 to both Bargain and Observe; however, if the person using it burns 2 Mana they instead gain a Bonus of +10 to both Bargain and Observe for 1 Turn. Burning 4 Mana allows the person with the Ring to become Invisible for 1 Turn. Both actions take no time at all - so you can choose to burn the Mana, go invisible, then move somewhere and then attack or cast a spell (you could also burn the mana and move somewhere and use Bargain that turn, too).
Then she studies the Amulet -
Lore Check-
1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 4 = 30
"Ah! This amulet was likely used by the person who had the ring, I think... but it was not made for the person, but - I think - whatever beast traveled with the person. For it is made for beasts, not Elves or Men," she adds.
"You see? The chain is much larger than we would need, but it would fit well on the Warg or Eagle, though I fear it may be too large for a small animal such as Pratap," she adds.
"In any case; it is an Amulet of protection for a beast of battle; if the Warg were to wear it, he should be much better at defending himself and - I deem - more hale, besides," she adds.
The amulet would grant a beast like the Giant Eagle or Wayde the Warg an additional +2 to their Defense and +6 to their Health when wearing it.
Finally the gems -
Lore Check-
1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 4 = 16
"Well, there are six gems here. They are all the same sort of stone and cut nearly the same, but they seem to be worth roughly 1,000 gold pieces each," she says, then looks up at you.
"I do not mind carrying the gems now, but when we finally leave this cave I should think that we should do our best to split the treasure equally. For now, though, I would guess that Ignis should claim the ring as she is the only wizard among us, and Wayde should claim the Amulet as he is the only one in here who can use it. What do you think?" she asks.
Ignis - Ravia has at least 20 Mana left - perhaps more, but Explorers don't get as much as Wizards do.
As soon as you and Meshidawg finish this cave you can add these magical items to your Character Sheet.
Ravia looks at you both.
"Well, I guess we move forward up the hall, right?" she asks.
Pratap |
"But I also think that Ravia should get the most gems, since Meshidawg and I get the amulet and ring,"Ignis adds.
Pratap approves of this comment...
And with that the party advances up the narrow hallway.
As they continue north they see the hallway must have at one point have been part of a secret chamber; for the edges of the hallway look as if there was once a mighty stone door now ripped from its hinges.
Moving forward they discover a huge room that widens in may directions and several small stairways leading down.
The light of the torch is dim, but as they enter the chamber they can hear a large and intimidating presence just outside the torchlight. Advancing further in the room may be dangerous - even so, if they do not advance they will not see what lays before them.
What do you do?
Dain GM |
Oh, God, I probably triggered them or something, didn't I?
No, those aren't actually snakes, they are pictures of bodies wrapped in spider-webs made by the giant spider you already destroyed. That is; if you're referring to the ones at T:20? Right now there doesn't seem to be anything threatening in the room, but that might change any second when you decide if you want to go down the stairs or forward to the other side of the room :)
Dain GM |
Did we check all the bodies?
Yes. I assumed you would take the time to do a thorough examination. Rather than tell you one at a time I merely gave the collection of goods/gear to you all at once.
FYI - if you and your ally can get through this dungeon by the 30th you'll have the gear/goods you found for the big battle/presentation, just saying...
Ravia |
"So what now?" Meshidawg inquires
"Clearly we can either advance into the wider room to the north, or we can first go down the stairs."
Ravia pauses and thinks a moment.
"I think we should finish the level before we go downstairs. After all, the monster we are hunting is very big, I doubt it will be able to go down the stairs."
"What do you think?"
"Also, Ignis, may I take the amulet and you keep the ring since it has more effect on a wizard."
Ravia glances between Meshidawg and Ignis.
"Well, if Ignis doesn't want to claim it then maybe I should give it to Pratap - I don't know if it would help him, but it would look very nice on his tail," she adds.
If Ignis won't claim the ring then Ravia will keep it. I'll update the map either today or tomorrow, so keep an eye out for it.
Ignis Fotia |
"Let's advance into a larger room, since if we find any loot or buff potions, it will make it much easier to fight the monster."
Ignis agrees with Meshidawg, then says to Ravia,”I would like the ring, but if I change my mind, Pratap can definitely have it.”
Dain GM |
“Let’s move into the large room, Ignis, Ravia and Pratap.” Meshidawg points to the larger room.
The party follows Meshidawg's advice and moves forward in their marching order.
However, as the gleam of the torch shines into the next chamber they see crawling from a dark sleep a massive and mighty creature.
"We have a cave troll," Ravia mutters with a grim voice and readies her weapons.
Cave Troll's initiative - bonus for being in his lair
