Moving along then...
The world is in a general state of progressive peace. The population seems pretty easy going though once the authorities arrive in their hover cars, they spread, leaving the officials to their work.
Without a question, Aurora is approached and asked to vacate, The woman who approached her gives a bow and offers her humble apologies that she had to request such a thing...
Their are 3 cars, 6 officers. 2 of the officers seem to be wearing gold trimmed hats made of a fine white silken cloth. The other officials are unphased by the uniform difference.
One of the gold trimmed officers raised a megaphone to his lips, speaking with a rather accented voice akin to that of John.
"Would the person, or persons, who attempted to access restricted information please come forward?"
It's a very strange, exceptionally forward question. almost as if this person thinks it will work.
Bringer of Stories
Except Aurora, who is escorted out of the area via officer. Mind you, its just covering a large block area. They actually dont know where you are. The 3 cars are simply parked in the main road of this busy area. There are several ally ways and buildings here. So they arent aware of your location.
Jaquline "Jaq" Cho
Going to give the others a chance to respond. In the meantime, I have some questions
1- Could Jaq route herself through another network node? Does she have enough time to try?
2- Would it be possible for Jaq to remote into a computer and place a simple script that tries to brute force accessing the database on it?
3- Are the officials looking in the general direction or straight at the conveyor.
4- How big of a chunk of flesh is Commandant al-Wahid going to tear off of Jaq for her fool-hardy attempt?
Sir Gavin D'Monteforte
Sir Gavin looked out the viewport and massaged his temples again.
"We cannot risk the exposure. Ready the conveyor to jump out." He said sighing.
Looking around he paused and frowned.
Where is Aurora?" He asked.
Aurora 01A-00W
Aurora smiles down at the people trying to escort her out of the area. At first she simply stands still and if they continue to prod her, well she does not want to loose her friends!!
How forceful are the officers being while trying to escort Aurora out of the area? And this is maybe an odd question, but can she retain her form but simply increase her mass - meaning she will look exactly the same, but suddenly weigh as much as a cave bear?
Sir Gavin D'Monteforte
Trying to think.
"Alright. Alright.
"First, can we move this thing? Does it have jump jets or something?
"Second, can we contact Aurora by radio? That won't be intercepted?"
Sir Gavin D'Monteforte
"Is it possible to jump back to Homeline, then back here in a different place? Radio a rally point to Aurora when we do?" Sir Gavin asked the more technical specialists.
Jaquline "Jaq" Cho
"So, our best bet is to stall, or misdirect them and hope that they don't catch one."
Jaq rubs the back of her neck, her eyes still on the photobug.
"Well, do you want me to give you the slightly stupid plan or the very crazy [i]and]/i] stupid plan?"
"Well," she sighs, "I can try to route several other breach attempts through various nearby computers. The problem with that is they probably have a good idea of where my attempt came from since I failed to observe even a modicum of forethought when I went in, but if they react to it, we might be able to get Aurora on board and keep them guessing long enough for our extraction."
"I take the bug there and make a dang fool of myself acting like some sort of mad scientist. Make demands and stuff like that. I know enough that I might be able to keep it up long enough for us to get pulled out of here. If I fire off some rounds, it might add to the act too, but I'd need time to get my ballistic suit on and put on something over it. If they really think I'm a threat, then they might just try to shoot me."
Bringer of Stories
@Aurora: The officers do not force you to do anything. They don't even handle you at all. They keep a respectful foot of distance between you and speak to you in ways that would suggest admiration or awe.
Regarding the Conveyor's mobility: No upgrades have been applied to it aside from the cloak field. Though you have been given authority to do what you will to the device.
Another booming demand echoes from the megaphone along the main street.
"We ask only once more: Reveal your self. Or be met with force."
It's not hard to notice that the amount of officer's are increasing. Several vehicles zoom overhead of the ally the conveyor happens to be place. However, the stealth field prevents their scans from detecting you.
The Photo-bug tabs about with its jar. The nimbus of light still pulsating off of it.
Dr. Flynn Carrigan
"Right. If you're already tapped into the public broadcasts—Jaq, any chance you can bring up an image of a secret ops badge of some sort? I can create a few fake objects, but unless we're absolutely sure, it'll likely get us into more trouble."
"Worst case—this is a world with aliens. We call ourselves space-teleporters, rather than time-teleporters, and we might be okay."
Bringer of Stories
In what fashion? Just off the street? Unlikely. If you want to try and access the interwebs again you may be able to find out what they look like, but they disconnected the area's access.
Aurora 01A-00W
Ok, I though they were trying to escort her specifically...they are just clearing the streets..gotcha!
Moving off as the officers clear the street, Aurora slips away and quickly changes her looks to more resemble that of one of the police officers. She then heads back into the area and tries to move closer to the alley the group is in without drawing too much notice.
She will keep her own face, just add colour to her pigment and hair, so the others can hopefully recognize her.
Bringer of Stories
@Aurora: The officer is aware of you. In order to slip away you'll need some kind of Stealth roll and maybe some kind of social skill to make the woman disengage you. Keep in mind, they are not carallin gyou. the level of respect they are giving you in the Avine form you took is exceptional.
@Jaq: You'll need to find a new access port. Wifi and Hardlines in a block radius are currently shut down.
Jaquline "Jaq" Cho
Duh, should have known that would have happened.
"Yeah, about your idea," Jaq tells Flynn as she shows him the screen showing no connection.
"Sorry, I'm spinning my tires here, I don't know of any way out of this that doesn't leave us, or me at least, wide open for spilling the beans."
How close are the officers to the Conveyor?
Bringer of Stories
With John suddenly having fallen asleep and Teal unaccounted for The three conscious members aboard the conveyor have a choice to make. Launch into another world in hopes that they return or attempt some kind of counter operation to the moving authorities...
"You have been warned."
The megaphone operator speaks for a final time. Once again, a cop car hovers above your location slowly making its way through the narrow road. A wide beam laser seems to act as a scanner, though it still fails to suggest it defected the conveyor. It continues though.
Sir Gavin D'Monteforte
Sir Gavin swore in french.
"No. Their technology equals or exceeds ours, if aliens are involved. It's one thing to risk ourselves, but we cannot risk having the Conveyor taken."
He pointed a Jaq.
"Jaq. Broadcast to Aurora; I really hope she took her radio with her. Message; 'Hide. Keep listening this freq. We'll be back.' to her."
He pointed at Flynn.
"Doctor Flynn. Ready to emergency jump back."
He looked out the viewscreen and waited until the laser was about to find them.
"...three, two, one, JUMP!" He called out
Dr. Flynn Carrigan
"Right, then. I'll need some extra fingers to cross."
Casting Locksmith at 15-4: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6) = 15
Spell failed; one second elapsed, 2 FP lost
"I'm laying down a mechanic's charm, the premise is a bit alien but it subdivides fine kinesthetic sense with simple telekinesis through minor dimensional projection..."
Re-casting Locksmith at 15-4: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) = 11
Spell succeeded; two seconds elapsed, 4 FP lost
Engineer/TL8 (Parachronic) 14: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11 Skill at +5 if task involves things like simultaneously pushing buttons/adjusting dials that could be more easily accomplished with extra hands
Jaquline "Jaq" Cho
Electronics Operation (Communications) 11: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6) = 13
Jaq fumbles with the radio's controls as she tries to use the right frequency. She takes a deep breath and tries again.
Electronics Operation (Communications) 11: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16
I think I'm going to let the GM tell us what happens here.
Aurora 01A-00W
Still on the street, Aurora waits and watches as the scene plays out before her. Unable to get away from her 'escort' she watches as the scene plays out.
Was going to have her shift and draw attention away from the group, but seems they have already decided to escape...hope they can find me again!
Bringer of Stories
The Conveyor does not have Quantum hopping capablities. You can not return to HQ, however, Jumping through your current Quantum is easy enough, though the recharge is 30 minutes.
Flynn uses magic to give himself an added edge to better his operation of the pilot's console. He succeeds brilliantly.
Whilst the Math Magician plots a series of potential worlds with no true direction, Jaq attempts to contact Aurora through personal coms with a bit of stealth.
Unfortunately her fumbling doesn't even allow her to send a proper informative comment.
"We'll be back!" Is about all she manages to yell into the radio, but Aurora did get that, at least.
Aurora is currently left on an alien world, posing as an alien. watching as Human Officers attempt to locate a now vanished hacker.
"Madam," The officer that escorted her speaks, "Could I get you anything? This shouldn't take too long but we'd like to offer our service if needed."
Bringer of Stories
The team minus one arrives into a new world...
In a quick hazy flash, The scenery changes from a dense ally way to a lush and vibrant forest scape.
Sensors pick up no artificial wave lengths. It does pick up two celestial bodies in orbit of this world... Upon simply looking at the sky, despite it being mid-day, the moon has been shattered.
Two halves seem to orbit near each other among a smattering of debris.
Aside from this, the Conveyor has seemingly made a scrotch mark in what would otherwise be a lush patch of vines and bushes. Oxygen levels are normal to high.
-------------------------------
Aurora denied further aide. The Officer simply gives a nod and small bow, backing away and headed to join the other officers.
A moment later, an eccented voice (Of of more soothing and higher tones) speaks from behind her...
"Humans and their games..."
An Avine female slides up to Aurora's side. She is dressed in less then Aurora, showing more skin through her midsection and a legs. She turns, looking over the Unknown Avine before her.
"Welcome to my sector, My name is Lunis. Who might you be?"
Sir Gavin D'Monteforte
Sir Gavin looked out the viewport in all directions and relaxed a bit.
"Well done. No obvious threats. We should be relatively secure for now." He said, breathing a sigh of relief.
Bringer of Stories
"Ah, sick? Come with me. My car's around the corner"
Lunis takes Aurora by the hand, leading her to a vehicle of truely Alien design in comparison to that of the human cars seen so far, a kin to a Vtol without its wings and engines.. Its made of purple/silver metallic material, sleek and aerodynamic. you approach it from the back where it simply seems to open up, revealing a luxury seating area that parts to lead into the cockpit.
"After you."
She offers, releasing Aurora's hand.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The photo-bug's Mana aura intensifies after a moment. The glass jar seems to heat up through the process. Mana is boosted into High. +2 to all spell casting while in contact with the bug. Otherwise, normal.
Sir Gavin D'Monteforte
"Go ahead, but don't go alone." Sir Gavin acknowledged, looking at the others. If no one else goes with Flynn, he will step up.
Jaquline "Jaq" Cho
"First question to ask," Jaq says, "How long do we have?"
She gets up and begins unpacking her ballistic suit and her battle rifle. The heavy firearm has a scope attached to the picatinny rail on top. She also pulls out and checks a pistol, not the 10mm caseless that was standard issue, but a 9mm with a small laser range-finder and targeting dot mounted under the barrel.
Funnily enough, all of her gear has obviously been used, and heavily at that. Jaq continues to get ready as if she's done this dozens of times before.
Dr. Flynn Carrigan
Right, time to play with the fancy new gear!
"Maybe you can search for primitive radio signals, Jaq?"
Flynn exits the jumper, and paces a slow circle around it, scanning the horizon with his hyperspectral computer visor.
Observation 16 (Hyperspectral, Telescopic 3): 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6) = 13
There's no hard and fast rules on this (since it's usually vs stealth), but with success roll + Telescopic Vision, this lets me see things at 64x the distance a normal success would allow. Also, I can clearly see the heat signatures of any creatures or people in this range that aren't concealed behind objects.
He then follows this up with a simple detection spell, boosted by the mana bug and a complex symbol drawn in the ground.
Seek Machine/TL8 (15+2): 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) = 9
(This tells me the approximate distance and direction to the nearest intact man-made technological object; with a success of +8, I can detect TL8 at a range of 1,000 miles, TL7 at 300 miles, TL6 at 100 miles, TL5 at 30 miles, TL4 at 10 miles, TL3 at 3 miles, TL2 at 1 mile, or TL1 at 1/2 mile. However, Flynn does not know the success margin of the spell and thus does not know the detection range he's scanning, only where the nearest tech object is in that range)
Bringer of Stories
With Flynn's scanning revealed roughly 32 miles away, he can see the source of TL 6^(Though they are TL 6 radio waves, they are generated by an unfamiliar source.) to the north.
Jaquline "Jaq" Cho
@ Bringer of Stories: Honestly, all she's doing is hitting the scan button and starting a recording. I don't think those require rolls, though I'll roll if you think otherwise.
"Nothing but static so far," Jaq tells Flynn before he leaves. She does do a quick frequency scan and sets up the computer to monitor all radio waves and record everything. A few minutes later, she hops out of the conveyor and finds Flynn.
"I really hope this goes better for us than last time," she says as she walks up to the doctor, only to pause as she notices the symbol on the ground.
"Uh, Flynn? What are you doing?"
Using the Recon 2 Loadout + the first Aid kit and the Palmtop.
Dr. Flynn Carrigan
"Radio frequency, 30 miles north. Can't make anything out of it, might be radiation from something; my guess would be magic, since this world has it naturally."
Dr. Flynn Carrigan
And, with the high magic level, I can haste myself (and anyone else who wants it)
Haste (15+2): 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2) = 14
(With mana level, Flynn is now at Dodge 11/Parry 13/Deflect 16 until further notice)
Bringer of Stories
Inside, the the alien "car", Lunis has Aurora sit on the red silken, semi circular couches. Its mirrored on either side. She apparently has an eye for symentry. The red silk cloth that seems to dominate the interior is drapped atop the ceiling as well where it hangs loosely. Toning down the red is the gold lined hemming and embroidery. Between the semi-circle couches, once Lunis slides over to the cockpit chair, a Table arises from the floor.
Lunis hits a few buttons on the pilot console. She turns, smiling to Aurora as the back doors shut and ship begins to move. She takes a a seat across opposite of the mute Avine and smiles.
"I was expecting the Flotilla to have sent someone so soon. I imagine your fresh out of the tanks."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, back with the team...
Flynn hastes himself, offering the others the same treatment. With John still sleeping peacefully, Teal offers to remain with him, to guard the vessel as well.
The photo-bug within it's jar, begins to rapidly scuttle about its containment.
Jaq's Set up inside the conveyor begins to beep. its a low pitched beep, triggering every 2 seconds.
