It has only been a few moments. Any buffs with a min / level duration should still be good for this fight. Unfortunately it has been too long for Haste to still be active.
Boswick is able to land quite a few blows against the shadow. Though his sword passes through them the force and electricity seems to cause it to still writhe about in pain.

Alie releases a wave of missiles at the green shadow. One by one the force concussions rip through the smokey mist.
@Rogar- there is no way for you to get to one of the shadows without incurring an AoO. let me know if you wish to do otherwise.
Rogar uses Boswick as cover for a short bit but ultimately has to move past the shadows to get a clear shot with his axe. He swings his axe about at the green shadow but his muscles give out and he is barely able to lift the blade.
AoO vs Rogar AC Tch 12: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
The shadow saps a bit more of Rogar's strength as Voros pelts the red shadow with bombs. One of the bombs finds a weak spot in the shadow as another misses entirely.
Miss direction: 1d8 ⇒ 6
The stray bomb strikes the wall splashing all over the shadow, Rogar and Oxirane.
The pair of shadows split off, leaving their wounded prey behind as they claw at Oxirane and Sareth. Green provokes from Rogar
Red Incorporeal Tch vs Oxirane AC Tch 27: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28

Alie could only hope that her missiles could do consistent enough damage to finish them before her friends were finished.
She again used a magic missile at green.
Damage 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 1, 1) + 5 = 13
Rogar Stonehand
|
No, he wouldn't want to provoke an AoO, he's losing strength fast.
AOO +1 vicious Long Axe -Str Penalty: 1d20 + 13 - 7 ⇒ (17) + 13 - 7 = 23
Damage - penalty: 1d12 + 15 + 2d6 - 7 ⇒ (5) + 15 + (4, 5) - 7 = 22
vicious: 1d6 ⇒ 5
-7 really is making it hard to hit, heh
GM Tyranius
|
Yup- Was not counting the enlarged, reach. Moved you back and took off AoO. Though your attacks still did not hit it.
Rogar gets a decent hit in with his axe as the shadow closes in on Sareth. Though he takes a small bit of damage it is enough in knowing that the shadow is close to death.
Alie's missiles finally break through the shadow, causing it to dissipate and at last rest in peace.

Sareth seems to be without fear, though his face turns to his weakening allies.
"SARENRAE!" He bursts twice with positive energy

5d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 3, 4) = 24
Each is DC 20 to resist.

Stepping to the side Sareth releases a pulsing wave of energy into the shadow. It quickly burns up and tears apart with a scream of pain.
Out of Combat.

Touch AC in total defense should be 29 due to my ranks on Acrobatics (+6 instead of +4). We get a Reflex save on the splash damage, right?
Reflex: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Tyranius

@Oxirane-Yes you get a reflex save for the splash damage. Looks like Voro's Dc is 20. I just didn't roll the shadows as the minimum damage was going to kill him anyways.
Voros
|
Indeed, DC 20 :) So that's 7 fire damage on a success. Sorry, Oxirane!

"Is there anything we can do to heal all the strength damage those shadows handed out? We are going to need our front line to be able to swing their swords, after all!"
Sareth
|
"I can only fix a small bit of the damage. Tomorrow I could do more."
Alie Saechel
|
"I think you need to cure Boswick, then. I know that huge dragon is waiting on us. Boswick is our best chance to survive it."
Not sure if it's worth using now, but Heal repairs all ability damage, IIRC.
Sareth
|
Nice catch. It does cure all damage.
"Sir Boswick, my most potent healing spell will return the damage. Do you wish it?"
If yes, Sareth will cast Heal.
Boswick Bumbleberry
|
Sure that would be great, I have 3 casting of Lesser Restoration (2 scrolls and one prep) I'll use those on Rogar.
Thank you Sareth, those Shadows were viscous! Hopefully, we won't have need of that Heal later. But I'm afraid I'm severly limited in my current condition, I can barely lift my sword.
Boswick then casts Lesser Restorations on Rogar.
Prep Lesser Rest: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Scroll Lesser Rest: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Scroll Lesser Rest: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Can we see what caused the shadows to emerge in the first place?
Rogar Stonehand
|
I have a wand of Lesser Resto with 4 charges
Digging a wand out of his bags, he'll produce it, saying gruffly, "Use this first,"
Lesser Resto: 1d4 ⇒ 2
I'll take your 3 castings and my 1, off my wand, saving your scrolls and prepared spell

The library occupies a third of the Mausoleum’s west wing. Within this vast chamber, rows and rows of dark-lacquered mahogany shelves hold thousands of texts. The scope of the collection is limited to morbid topics of concern to necromancers. It contains standard texts on undead studies and anatomical references as well as books on the subject of the funerary rites of various cultures, death ceremonies, serpent toxins, necromantic tinctures, and similarly morbid works.
Sareth follows the magical energies to the northeast though comes across a closed door. Whatever must have been causing the undead to rise must be on the other side.

"Ugh! What vile books. Necromancy, yuck," Alie declared as she threw one of the books to the ground.
I still have my two scrolls of Stoneskin. They will last 70 minutes apiece. Want to break them out right here? I figure we probably have 2 or 3 encounters left, so we should be fine on duration.
Boswick Bumbleberry
|
Confused on the strength damage, does Oxirane have 2; and isn't Rogar all the way up
If one of them still has 2 damage; I'll go ahead and cast my lesser rest.
Prep Less Rest: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Oxirane

I didn't actually get hit by the shadow. My AC was 29 from total defense.

The only one left with any ability damage is Sareth with 1 str damage. Oxirane did not get hit due to ranks in acrobatics and myself and Rogar posted over each other so the above stats did not include his wand roll but I will update that on the next post.

OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT

GM Tyranius

It is the Cage of Soul Echoes that Charvion was showing to the city. It seems to have haywired. The artifact was meant to be a rift to the ethereal plane and it now seems to have opened a gateway between the two as ethereal mist rushes from the cage, erupting into the area in great ghostly tendrils. Lashing frantically, they discharge bolts of supernatural cold into all living creatures they touch. The device looks to have many wards set in place to avoid tampering with it.
The artifact has three distinct parts, and in order to shut it down, all three parts need to be disabled. Each part requires its own disable check. The checks must be performed one at a time, over the course of 3 successive rounds. Failure always triggers an ethereal blast and resets the device.
Round 1
Voros (64/64)
Alie (76/76 {+19 Temp hp}; resist acid 30)
Boswick (92/92)
Sareth (102/102; resist acid 30; -1 str damage)

Who is going to be our disabler? I can cast Resist Energy Cold on them.
Know. Arcana 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Know. Planes 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Spellcraft 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
To try and figure out what checks might be helpful.
GM Tyranius
|
You have 2 choices Pathfinders :
- Trying to bypass the Artifact : This approach requires a run through the room, avoiding the wispy tendrils of ether
- Trying to shutdown the haywire artifact : Accomplishing this action requires some skill. If a group attempts to shut down the device, each player who can must make a Disable Device check
Alie Saechel
|
Is Dim Door'ing an acceptable way to bypass the artifact? Or do I have any way of knowing without checking first?
Boswick Bumbleberry
|
Voros has excellent disable device +21
Doubt anyone else has it on our team. Still +21 seems real good.
Voros is at Youth Camp and will be spotty about posting. So he asked to be botted in discussion.
GM what can the rest of us do to support Voros? For example, can I shield junior pathfinders or something. Give Voros a warning as to possible ether stream hits?
Boswick stares for a second at the out of control machine, Everyone, be careful, this does not look stable!
GM Tyranius
|
You can definitely shield younger pathfinders and try to think outside the box ways to aid Voros.
Watching the tendrils Alie is unable to distinguish a pattern to them as they whip out of the gate sporadically and without warning. Even at times massive waves of energy pour forth.
So you want Voros to be the lead with his Disable Device then? Not a whole lot of options on dealing with this mechanism here. You can either run around and try to avoid the tendrils or try to shut the machine down for good. Running around definitely gives you a lower percentage of getting struck.
Boswick Bumbleberry
|
I say yeah, I think Voros would definitely try to make disable checks.
Voros! See what you can do to disable the device Boswick yells as he runs around trying to help other pathfinders avoid getting damaged by the tendrils.
Alie Saechel
|
I agree with trying to disable it at least to start. Anyone want to make the rolls for Voros?
Alie casts Resist Energy Cold on her friend, trying to help him as best as she can.
GM Tyranius
|
If you are not aiding Voros then you have a 25% chance each round of being struck by loose tendril dealing 9d6 damage. DC 22 Fort for half. if you are helping disable it is 50% chance of getting struck. So people disabling have a chance of being struck twice basically. Each of you can make your own rolls.
Alie prepares Voros by shielding him from any cold injury as he moves close to the machine lashing out. Looking around he looks for the best place to start and slides closed one of the gated panels.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (14) + 21 = 35
Tendril chance to hit. Low Hits: 1d100 ⇒ 43
Voros Ethereal Damage: 9d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 5, 2, 1, 2, 4, 6) = 32
Fort save DC 22: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Voros is able to disable a small portion of the device as it begins to wind down momentarily. A massive tendril tears out at him and blasts through his chest. The tiefling arches back in obvious pain.

|
Is there a way for me to soak up some tendrils so Voros doesn't take any?
Looking around at his companions, shouting over the din, "Does smashing it work?"
Alie Saechel
|
Rogar, is your to hit number correct? Your strength gives you a +4, + 10 BAB, and you have a +1 weapon. Shouldn't it be +15, instead of +13 or am I missing something? Edit: maybe you are including power attack to the number.
Rogar Stonehand
|
Rogar is always power attacking, he kind of has a crap to hit, I should have spent my gold before coming into this mission, I haven't played him in just about 2 years. Still getting into the hang of things.
GM Tyranius
|
Not really a way to soak up any. There are massive amounts of tendrils swirling about and you don't know where they are going to go at anytime. this is basically you all trying to dodge what you can until all of the pathfinders in the room are able to disbale this for good.
Boswick Bumbleberry
|
Boswick runs around attempting to dodge the wisps.
Tendril chance to hit, low hits: 1d100 ⇒ 13
But he zigs, when he should have zagged.

Fort save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28 pass - half take 17
If I'm able to then.
Boswick heads over to Voros as he sees him get nailed and Lays on Hands.

GM Tyranius

The tendrils can reach the ceiling.
Alie leaps over one of the tendrils as it sweeps the room, though Boswick is not as fortunate. Boswick limps over and tends to what injuries he can on Voros while he continues to tinker with the haywire artifact.

I can't really help, so I'm not going to run in there just yet, no sense in taking 9d6 damage for nothing.
Rogar cheers his allies on, knowing there is nothing he can do to help the situation.
delay for now, sorry team, if someone has a suggestion, by all means, I'll be traveling for work today so, bot me if you need to GM, if that means I move in and take 9d6 damage, that's cool, I don't mind
