Goblinblood Dead: One of the four remaining "Tier 1-to-anything"s left to play dot. Protip: The last three are Black Waters and Devil We Know, Parts 2 and 4.
"But how did you play 3 and not 2? Are you that bad at math?", you may ask. The answer is "Yes, but that's not the case here. I ran 2 for the group for some reason I've since forgotten." Plus, I think Black Waters is running at Dragon*Con, so I might play it there and ruin Tetkite's plan of someday running that while I'm available! Ha, ha!

That's alright, I have a few 'seconds' without a first. It is just my inability to play PDFs with any frequency.
PFS - darn auto-correct.

Varg will level to 4 after the Cyphermage. Am I still good to go for this one?
If so, I will update him tonight and be ready to roll.
Yep, it's Tier 1-5. I think you guys will definitely be in for the higher Tier. Which we don't have to abide by the new Guide until Sept. 30 as long as we get underway.
Ernest Kalthet

Upon checking, Ernest will be 8XP after applying Cyphermage and Gobs 2. Still, I'm a pretty good 3rd level build, if I do say so myself.
Which we don't have to abide by the new Guide until Sept. 30 as long as we get underway.
Yeah, anarchy in preparation! Let's do it; eat it, WBL! (But seriously, let's totally do that. Gold is delicious.) Were we waiting for any classic members, or what? I forget what people said they could and couldn't play.
Ernest Kalthet

Ernest is ready! Might buy some spells after the meeting, though. Thinking about getting me some Summon Monster, though I need those spells for pits...
Luisila
|
Hi everyone! Luisila is a part of this!
Oh and she is/will be delighted to see Omrax as she was quite frightened she would never see him again after hearing some rumors about how deadly that last module he played in could be.
So nobody can say it wasn’t discussed ;) I would prefer 4-5. Keeping Ernest safe is all part of a cleric’s job, I say. Not that Ernest needs that much help, anyway.
Ernest Kalthet
|
Ha, I might actually use my mage armor wand this time. No problems playing up here, especially as one last 4th season hurray.
Luisila
|
C’mon Varg, like I’d forget you and that axe!
Yes Omrax, I’ve been playing a bit of IRL PFS as well. Luisila has been in a few tight spots, but has managed to come through all right ... so far.
A question on tactics for you more experienced players … I’m thinking there is going to be undead in this one, so I was thinking about …
- Adding some more Remove Disease and Paralysis prepared spells. I would then have to drop some of the buff spells – but I’m thinking Bit of Luck is my best buff ability anyway. Assuming Zynep is playing this will make the decision easier I’m thinking.
- 4-5 might bring some challenges I haven't seen before. I was considering getting Oil of Daylight and Potion of Fly … any advice?
Omrax the Bold
|
Glad to hear it worked out. Our run through Thistletop was not going well...we could have used a cleric during the last fight or two. Brutal.
I definitely went with potion of fly for its many purposes.
With the three ladies, "Cleaver" and good old Ernest and on board, seems like we have a good mix of melee, healing, casters and skills.
Zynep Ravana
|
Yes, yes, darling, Zynep shall be leading this caravan and making sure everybody returns home safely. I have yet to lose a soul yet.
Honestly, any that wish us ill will see us, smile and laugh as they throw down their weapons and toss us their gold. It has been harrowed.
So with 4 elf-kin playing, anybody know Deeper Slumber? =v)
Luisila, do we want to have an offensive & supportive cleric? Or keep things mixed up to keep the big boys up and running. You might be on to something with the Remove Disease. After all, Ormax is with us . . .
My update isn't complete yet. That'll probably be done sometime tomorrow.
On a side note: Cyphermage Dilemma.
GM, did we miss something? Not to saying anything about how you ran the game, but for an "Exclusive" scenario, there wasn't anything that special about it.
Am I missing something here?
Ernest Kalthet
|
Exclusives are just "Scenarios released a season early;" It's the Specials you want if you want zazzy, new things.
Luisila
|
You might be on to something with the Remove Disease. After all, Ormax is with us.
Luisila raises an eyebrow. “Oh and just what disease are you planning on giving Omrax, darling?”
What are the two clerics going to do? Isn’t that a nice problem to have!
This is what I’m thinking* with respect to cleric tactics. Everyone, feel free to poke holes in my analysis because, hey, it’s your life at stake too.
* We all know what happens to plans once they first make contact with goblins.
Threats are likely to be:
1. Run of the Mill Undead – I think Omrax and Varg will slaughter these. If the front-rankers are overwhelmed by numbers, I think Luisila and Linnea could at least keep them held up until the heavy hitters arrive.
2. Corporeal Undead with some nasty abilities eg paralysis. Bad Will saves happen, sometimes even if you’re a paladin! I think it would be good for Luisila to be able to get to the boys in this situation. Grace is a good spell and I have 30’ now. Channelling Undead Killing Energy is another option – though I am wary of channel resistance at this level.
3. Incorporeal Undead. My ghost touch arrows and Ernest’s magic from range might be very handy here. Zynep’s Bit of Luck would also be useful.
4. Guard the Casters. With Omrax and Varg up front, a guard to shield Ernest and Zynep, allowing them to cast would be good. Linnea and/or Luisila could handle this. Luisila could probably do this if Linnea wanted to go forward and use her whip. Or if Linnea wanted to stay back and cast, Luisila could do some archery.
Executive Summary: Luisila is probably better in the middle whipping/arching – but loaded with “rescue” spells in case something goes wrong. Zynep is probably better towards the back loaded with (pre)combat buffs for Varg and Omrax.
Zynep heals in combat, Luisila heals outside of combat.
What do y’all think?

Ernest's Plan:
Just note my damage output is a combination of "my magic missile wand" and "falling damage." Evocation is a prohibited school for Ernest, after all.
Linnea Joculus
|
Linnea wants to use Flare Burst more. I'll try to position myself in initiative so that I'm setting up the muscle to hit better and possibly harder. So, I'll try to delay myself if necessary so I am right after the bad guys in initiative. Then trip them or use Dazzling Display.
Also, expect Linnea to be more bold in her bluffing. Her success at it in the recent past has just made her that much more confident.
Omrax the Bold
|
Omrax is immune to diseases, but cannot cure others yet. He caught enough illness in one mod to last his lifetime, so instead of a vow of poverty, he took a vow of pepto bismol.
Luisila's tactics sound good to me. Let us see what the enemy thinks and adjust as needed.
Luisila

@Omrax: lol
@Zynep: Got the Tangled Chronicle. Thanks!
@Cleaver, Did you get a chance to play Fangwood Keep yet?
A week or so after we were talking about Fangwood Keep I got invited to play it in a live PFS all-day event – it was uncanny.
**NO SPOILERS FOLLOW**
If you enjoyed Tomb of Horrors, I think you would like this one. Though, it’s certainly NOT as deadly as ToH. Nobody died (couple of close calls with the party rogue) but I did burn through a whole CLW wand.
There wasn’t enough roleplay in the module for me, but the two highly optimised melee guys in my group seemed to enjoy it. Sadly, I think it would make for a very long pbp.
Highlights
- Several ways of approaching and getting into the keep. This part was pretty good.
- New monster was excellent: good backstory, very good art and interesting combat features – the fight against it was quite tense.
- I enjoyed the last fight. Unfortunately, the scene wasn’t particularly cinematic and the opposition wasn’t particularly interesting – but after nearly 12 hours, steamrolling that encounter was quite satisfying.

This is hidden because I did not want to give anything away to those looking to participate in ToH or Fangwood Keep. If you do not care, feel free to read away.
All but our Aasimar Cleric died in the final encounter in ToH. We had a very evil DM, not to mention 4 months pregnant, who kept beefing the rooms with devious traps of her own where she felt them lacking - imagine that...ToH traps lacking. In any event it was fun, and we were not entirely invested in our PCs, knowing that they would likely die. The rogue bit it early in much the same manner as yours. My Stonelord Paladin, was the last to die, failing the necessary saves with some crappy rolls.

The scenario actually starts in Absalom, but if you like to meet the party in Isger, Luisisla, that's fine.
GM Tektite: *D’oh* I think I will keep Luisila in Isger, as in my mind she journeyed across from Molthune with her previous companions, who have now moved on. It also kinda fits with the time lapse between Luisila’s and the others’ respective adventures. I purposely left the Isgerian town/village she was working in vague.
This will mean I miss the briefing/questioning – but I’ve missed plenty of them before! ;)
I will try to pick a natural joining point (or you can do it of course!) and I will keep any roleplay reunion brief and in keeping with the flow of the game.
The only issue I thought of is: Does not being in Absalom affect my Faction Mission in any way?

Hey Varg,
I liked the troll encounter – we role-played through that one as well.
It sounds like your group also went through the secret passage near the circles. We had invisibilty/elixirs of hiding (?) but our GM was very good at not giving away if we had been spotted or not until we were in.
Have you read the encounter with the monk with Crane Wing(?) That fight was boring. It lasted 20+ minutes – the result was never in doubt – but we groaned every time our hi-20’s AC front-rankers missed with their second attack.
The redcap fight would have been nastier if one of our guys didn’t crit with his backup cold iron weapon.
They let me have the elemental gem and I went “all Varg” in the BBEG fight. I stood in the corridor and let the elemental run amok. It was fun.
Weird Moment: At the BBEG fight after 12 hours I was pretty tired, the GM flashed the picture of the dark curly-haired female cleric and told me I recognised her holy symbol as Calistrian.
In my tiredness I mistook the priestess for Zynep! It freaked me out for a split-second.
Sounds like your game is going great. Good luck with it.

I’m totally cool with, “You’ll meet the other agent there.”
Luisila
|
Has anyone played/seen a Dodge – Mobility – Spring Attack (Feat Tree) Fighter in play?
They sound interesting and I was thinking about this approach for another character.
Also, if you re-train a Fighter Bonus feat, my reading of the rules is there is nothing to stop you taking the “dropped” feat again later on?
How about this ... the church of Asmodeus hears about a priestess serving a chaotic deity helping street people – potentially denying them recruits for their Isgerian monasteries and giving the masses hope!
They dispatch a low-ranking Hellknight armiger or inquisitor after Luisila and she is forced to flee (all off screen of course!) when she meets up with the others at the rendezvous point in Valsin/Dreng’s message.
“Thank the Goddess I found you, I need to get the Nine Hells out of Logas.”
Oh, I think it goes without saying, this is designed to help enhance your game, NOT give you more work! So if it is the latter and you want to go with something else, no worries!
Zynep Ravana
|
I saw that combo used for rogues early on in 3.x. It them allowed them to jump in and out of flank and do sneak attack. It kept them alive, but something rubbed me the wrong way about that tactic.* Never seen that tree for a Fighter though.
As for dropping feats, you are more then welcome to take that feat later on. To answer a follow up question, if you retrain a feat that is the middle part of a chain, the rest of the feats become inhert.
So if you drop Mobility and you have Spring attack, then you can't use Spring Attack.
And I totally looked under Luisila's spoiler tag.
In relation to this scenario, Zynep will defiantly go offensive with spell selection but provide in combat healing if needed since she has 7 channels

No probs; I ain't in no Gencon rush. That's only at the end of the month when Dragon*Con rolls around, and I've got more characters I can play down there than I have scenarios I can actually play, do ho ho!
Luisila
|
No sweat, Vegemite! Have fun at the con – I’m not jealous ... much! ;)
| GM Tektite |
Sorry folks, I thought I would have time to update during slack periods, but there aren't any. I barely have to time to grab a bite and am averaging four hours sleep. On the upside, Shin survived Bonekeep, though we ran out of time and did not encounter the hardest rooms. I promise to get us going Sun/Mon.
Ernest Kalthet
|
No rush here; I don't have a convention rush until Dragon*Con at the end of this month (and one thing I don't need is a 3rd level character; I've got plenty of stuff in that tier.) I got a link posted to the chronicle for Tide of Morning, in case you didn't see it.
Linnea Joculus

Yep, no problem at all GM. It nicely coincided with three days' worth of training for me.
It sounds like you're having fun. Enjoy it. We'll be here.
Luisila
|
No worries, GM Tektite!
Have you had a character fall at one of the games you are GMing yet?
What’s the word on the street about the general quality and deadliness of the early Season 5 scenarios?
| GM Tektite |
I'm back! Sorry for the delay. Exhaustion, work, and a stomach bug kept me from the computer yesterday.
To answer your questions Luisila. I did not have a PC fall, though I did kill one's eidilon. Pure chance that the party lucked into the eidilon falling, as I rolled a die to see who was going to take the hit.
I only got to play 5-01, but it didn't seem to be very hard, though I do know that Endless Forms almost lost a PC in 5-03. All in all, the scenario seemed good, though the GM was a little disorganized.
I ran Shin through Bonekeep 1 and he survived! I had worries though. I was asked to join a group of five level fours (Shin was level five) at a low tier table, which I accepted. Once I sat down, I learned that everyone was playing pregens! Since Shin is a terra-cotta monk with trapspotting, guess who was asked to run point? We survived, but didn't finish the entire dungeon, due to running out of time. Oh well, it sounds like death would have been a higher possibility in the next couple rooms. Shin got away with only having to pay for a couple of Remove Disease spells.
Luisila
|
As long as no one else has anymore questions, I move us forward in just a little bit.
Welcome Back, GM! Hope you’re feeling better. I am good with moving on a bit.
So you’re still claiming Shinkeer spent the last coupla days battling the forces of Bonekeep, huh?
Oh, and he was only getting 4 hours of sleep per night?
Well, my spies tell me he met up with some fellas from Numeria and they didn’t get any sleep because they were up all night getting …

**Disclaimer** Blame Omrax for giving me this idea.
Once upon a time there were three little girls who went to the Pathfinder Society.
One in Varisia. One in Andoran. The other in Sarusan. And they were each assigned very hazardous duties. But I took them away from all that and now they work for me.
My name is Tektite.
