Ferabras retaliates against the beetle with a good blow, but still the creature stands and chitters at him.

Krestin, almost shaken by this thing, forces a missile at it which impacts on contact! But still the creature stands!

Finally, Droogami follows its orders and bites the beetle right in the thorax and crushes it with her mighty jaws!

Out of combat

Soran puts back the two arrows he was about to fire, and nods.
Good work. Let's see if that man is still alive.

He then rushes to the man's side and checks to see if he's alive.

I hate to beg, but would someone lend my cat and I some healing resources? I want to save this scroll until we really need it. I have a feeling we will be in here for a long while.

When the beetles ceases its scuttling and spraying of acid, Ferabras lowers his blade and looks to see that everyone is okay. When Lini asks for help, he says, ”Of course, of course!” Drawing a wand from his belt pouch, he taps her with it, then does the same for Droogami. ”Your beast fought well, Lini, in spite of injury,” he says as he heals the druid and the great cat.

Not sure how wounded Droogami is, but those are pretty decent rolls, hopefully they’ll take care of both of you.

He then uses the wand to heal the acid burns on his own skin.

Droogami nuzzles Ferabras' leg in appreication.

I only needed the first two rolls, so you can save the last two charges. FYI, I keep my HP tracker below my name for both of us.

Oh, missed that Droogami's stats were there too. Was busy fighting beetles!

As the party heals, they find two things.

1) The man in the corner is most definitely dead. He wears the clothing which would indicate his citizenship to Kassen.

2) There appears to be the start of a rudimentary nest here, possibly made by a beetle of some sort, but too large your your ordinary run-of-the-mill beetle... Oh... Any knowledge of nature shows that you just killed a mommy beetle about to lay her eggs... *sniff* It's so sad.

Swiftly moving on, there is nothing else of note in the room.

There is one more door which has not been examined in the same room as Roldare. When you approach, he stammers, "I... I wouldn't go in there. That's where the undead attacked us. There's no one in there now, but... with all of my friends that died in there, I just can't bear going back in. Not even to reclaim some of our gear."

"The undead will pose a danger to others as well," Ferabras states, a tad obviously. "They must be destroyed. Are you with me, friends?" he says to his fellow Pathfinders as he approaches the door.

Soran just nods.
Open the door. I'll rain hell on them.

You open the door and are greeted with a cloud of smoke which starts streaming out of the hallway reveled beyond. A slight flickering can be seen from around the corner through the oily smoke. Who's goin' in?

Taliesin looks with apprehension into the smoking room.

"Are we sure we need to go in there?" she asks. "There seems to be a fire still burning for some reason..."

Roldare smacks his forehead. "We... may have also left our stove fire burning in our haste to escape..."

"Anyone have a good idea for putting out the fire?" Ferabras asks. "Can some create enough water to deal with it?"

"Nay I did not pray for that blessing this morning." Laments Craggor

Krestin looks at the others with apprehension, "Krestin doesn't like black cloud. Black cloud has fire, and fire is bad for Krestin and friends." The kitsune whimpers slightly and backs away slowly from the smoke, not wanting to be in it at all.

I can help! No. I can't seem to remember that cantrip.

What is the best way to put out that fire?

Sorry, I didn't memorize Create Water.

Aside from water, fire can be smothered with dirt or even batted out with a cloak. Small fires can just be stamped out.

Quick! Let's use our cloaks to stamp out the fire!

Lini uses her short green cloak to bat down the fire.

Lini will assist the larger humanoids.

Taliesin peers into the smoke, wary of what they might find when the smoke dissipates.

"Careful!" she calls out.

I guess Ferabras is first in line, so those mighty Aid rolls are meant for him.

Ferabras takes a few steps down the hall and attempts to throw his cloak over the fire to snuff it out. "Natural fire doesn't hurt me much, so I'll take the lead on this," he offers.

As the party approaches the fire to stamp it out, it flares brightly and a shadowy shape springs to life in the smoke!

Coughing and wheezing, Krestin fumbles about and sees the dark outline of a creature. Not knowing what it is, the kitsune shouts before coughting again, "STOP! NO HURT FRIENDS!"

DC 19 Daze, affecting undead. And people thought witches were bad, wait until I get confuse, hehe.

Krestin's spell has no effect on the shadowy form!

Lini casts Guidance on Droodami before he moves adjacent to the shadow to bite it.

After stepping back from the shadow, Lini casts the spell on Droogami. When the animal bites, its mighty jaws pass right through the incorpreal shade as if it weren't there!

Taliesin swallows hard, barely able to speak as she looks into the room. "This is a shadow, an incorporeal spirit created by an excruciating death..."

Craggor and Soran are up. This might be a difficult fight for you... Have to look at your gear. Additional post incoming, but should not interfere with your actions.

Everyone save Soran notices a glinting object in the fire at the feet... erm... whispy whirly base of the shadow. Its glow seems to be coming from not the fire but something within the item itself, which appears to be a dagger.
TLDR; there's a magic dagger in the fire.

I won't get an action for a bit, but if Ferabras can get his hands on that dagger, he can Smite Evil and likely be the most effective of the bunch against the shadow. But everyone else would have to decide not to grab it. (Or to grab it and hand it to Ferabras, so he gets to attack with it this round...)

Soran studies the thing for a moment, and then takes Tal's words to heart. He draws one of his holy water arrows, and fires it at the thing.

Craggor draws the Cure Light Wand

Soran lets fly an arrow laden with holy water... only to watch the arrow pass harmlessly through the shadow and shatter on the wall beyond it!

Craggor, trying a different tactic, tries to prod the incorporeal creature with a wand, though he is unable to make contact!

The shadow turns to Ferabras and utters in a cruel whisper "Burn with meeeee.... BURRRRNNN WIIITH MEEEE..." before reaching out a clawed hand! It moves straight through the tiefling's chest, taking a portion of his infernal soul with it as it leaves!

Lini moves out of the room and calls Droogami to heel. The small cat withdraws.

Ferabras reels in mind-numbing pain as the shadow draws vital life force from him, but he steels himself and whispers back through clenched teeth, "Hard to burn someone from the Hells." He calls on the goodness in his heart, reaching out with a claw-like hand to blast the shadow with the power of good.

Swift action to Smite (+3 attack and AC, +2 damage, +4 damage on first successful attack), standard action to attack defensively with Lay on Hands (1/4 uses today).

Touch attack, Smite, Defensive: 1d20 + 4 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 3 - 4 = 19
Damage, Smite: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 No save vs Lay on Hands damage

Status: AC 25, Touch 16. 20/20 hp, -4 Str damage. Ouch!

At Ferabras' touch, the shadow writhes in pain, its form whisping away slightly. It seems at least something works against this fiend.

CLWWandTouch: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 151d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Craggor stepping around the creature, tries to hit the blast shadow with his wand again.

Craggor pokes again with the wand but cannot manage to land a prod on the shadow!

Soran, Taliesin, Krestin up!

Taliesin's oratory continues to inspire her companions. Though hesitant, she draws her own curative wand, steps forward and tries to hit the shadow.

"Go back to the pit you've come from!" she cries.

Just to be clear, the Craggor's 15 to hit was vs. touch AC, right? If so...scary!

Craggor's prod at the shadow hits and it takes some of the positive energy damage!

Taliesin similarly pokes at the shadow and depletes some of its shady essence!

Soran and Krestin!

Noticing that the thing wasn't dazed, Krestin coughs a little before he started to move his hands a bit. A split second after he begins to mutter, a fox of blue energy shoots from his hand, running and jumping about the room before leaping at the shade!

Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Expecto Patronum? Like the flavour. May I steal that?

The fox-shaped missile hits the shade with a brilliant flash, depleting its dark form even still.

Oh, you may! Magic missile is normally described as blueish or white bolts of energy, but I have read that the spell can be changed cosmetically to better align with the caster. Examples I have seen are butterflies or stars for followers of Desna.

Realizing there isn't much he can do, and berating himself for using his last Holy Water Arrow, Soran just stays out of the way and lets the magic users handle this monster.

Noticing the dagger in the fire, Lini casts Detect Magic on it.

Soran, there is a magical dagger in the fire! Maybe it will hurt it?!?

Oops, I got ahead of myself. This will be my action next round.

The shadow makes another attempt to steal the life from Ferabras! The pain makes it feel as though the shadow is tearing out his soul, leaving the paladin extremely weak. The armour which ought to protect him now weighs heavily on his shoulders.

With an expert poke, Craggor's wand dissipates the last of the shadow's dark foul energy.

Now the only foe you face in here is choking on the smoke. It's not too debilitating just yet, but it might get to be the longer you're in the room.

Out of Combat!

Taliesin notices a key near the fire, but her attention is on Ferabras.

"Oh, dearest paladin...are you okay?" she asks, though clearly the tiefling is not. "You were so brave back there! I'm afraid that had I confronted it, I would be dead!" indeed she would

"What can I do to help you?" she asks kindly.

Once she ensures the paladin will be alright, she points out the key near the fire.

"I hate this place..." she mutters.
