Pratavh's spell smashes into the desiccated creature, knocking it flat!

The thing crawls forward and projectile vomits a hail of thumb-sized biting spiders! These repulsive biting things scurry all over their victims, in the hair, under armor, etc and bite to release their venom. It's a small consolation that each time they bite the spider dies. Within moments Alwyn and Lilly are feeling distinctly unwell, the venom sapping the strength from their limbs.

Note this poison could render them unconscious if they fall to 1 str.

The two huge spiders chitter weirdly and with a flick of their massive abdomens, they send a volley of barbed hairs to where Shikyo lies hidden. The barbed hairs are incredibly itchy and the poison quickly threatens to nauseate the average foe, but Shikyo is no ordinary foe. He ducks and tumbles and avoids the worst of the cloud of poisonous hairs. They have tremor sense.

Pratavh's spell seems to have little effect on the giant spiders, but the desiccated fighter is grappled firmly! The many hands and feet pound on him but their blows bounce off. Shikyo simply dances aside from the grasping hands.

Mohktar downs one of his elixirs, the magics held within going from inert to active. His bone and muscle and sinew expand as he leaps forward, Mohktar's body and weapon double in size as he lands within 10 ft of the now grappled and desiccated being. He raises his treble sword aloft and plunges it downward into prone form.

So the Acrobatics roll was too low? That sucks. He still wants to pile on the big bad though.

Turns out those spiders have disgustingly high CMD, the big bad is kind of a wuss in comparison.

The northern most spider takes full advantage of it's freakishly long legs by lurching forwards to bite the monk on his descending strike! Mohktar fortunately is preternaturally agile, and manages to avoid the bite at the same time as powering into the desiccated fighter scoring a faint line along it's thigh.

So instead of darting forward as was his plan, he instead backs up and hurls Shuriken at the giant tarantulas

I don't see why not. I'm not really sure how invisibility works vs tremor sense, I'm going to say it works for now however.

The desiccated fighter rips himself free from the grasp of the many hands and tentacles and laboriously lifts himself up off the ground. It hisses menacingly at you, dribbling several spiders from it's maw.
CMB: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

This causes both giant spiders to twitch their abdomens repulsively sending a shower of poisonous barbed hairs towards Mohktar, but the monk is one step ahead and the hairs land preciously where he isn't. Those hairs are seriously nasty if they hit.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Sense motive DC15:
The spiders seem to be in thrall of the e desiccated figure, acting as guards. They would be terrors with their reach and poisoned fangs if they went on the attack.

With much swearing and hard graft, Master Bvar manages to bring the Ballista to bear on the southern most spider. It not his most artful shot, but he can hardly miss at this distance, and the bolt strikes the spider solidly on one of it's legs.

Lilly's arrow strikes deep in the thorax, and the spider chitters with pain and rears up. The desiccated figure barks what you guess is a command and the spider returns to it's place!

Don't forget Mohktar is super sized now. So he's git the 10 ft reach too. So if the desiccated guy moves nearby, I get a hit on him.

With the realization that the spiders are possibly the bigger threat, Pratavh sends a volley of missiles into the most injured of the two as the tentacles flail around and try to grab at those within their reach.

Alwyn's magic infuses you all with magical haste! Mohktar turns into a whirling dervish, hitting the northern most spider time after time. The thing shrieks in pain, and freaks out with Mohktar's last thunderous hit.

Haste gave you the extra +1 to confirm.

Shikyo throws a trio of shuriken at the southern most spider, but the battering it takes from the force missiles makes him miss all but one strike.

The desiccated fighter gets grappled again, but the spiders are simply too agile to be caught. He tries to worm his way out of the deadly embrace, but is stuck fast. A dry rasping laugh leaks from his maw and at a guttural command the spiders leap forwards!

The northern most spider bites deeply into Mohktar's leg, but the monk twists free before the thing can inject it's venom.

Lilly is not so lucky, the southern spider clamps down furiously on her arm and she feels the strength drain out of her as it's venom fills here with a sickly lassitude.

With an alacrity rarely seen, Master Bvar works the windlass like a demon! Well into his rhythm now, he fires an uncannily accurate bolt that stoves in most of the southern spider's belly, leaving pulsating entrails sprayed over the floor. He sends another bolt careening into it which lops off a leg. The thing writhes in pain, thrashing about. You're amazed it's still alive.

Erm, i moved 5 ft back last turn, the spider can only reach 10ft and would be 20ft away from it. You have the spiders stationary.

Just verifying my math here...my normal AC is 22, -1 for the Enlarge, -1 for the dex penalty for enlarge, then +1 for Alwyn's haste spell. So that's a 21. Is that right? If itnks, then the slider missed the wily monk.

You probably guessed this, it's undead and immune. Would you prefer to cast a different spell? BTW you can actually use the bow still just there's a penalty to hit something like -1 or so (I'll have to look that up since I don't remember off hand).

@Lilly I can't find the rule but IIRC using a bow which has too high str mod is actually -2 to hit. You get 3 attacks around with a full attack and haste with that bow btw!

Lilly steps back and even though she finds the bow's draw very very heavy, she managed to send a arrow deep into the southern spider's eye, finally killing it. She then sends two more arrows after the northern most spider, but they bounce off it's carapace.

BTW you forgot Inspire, which is still up thanks to Alwyn's feats

Alywn sends a flurry of arrows after Lilly's. Most of these too bounce off the creatures tough hide, but one buries itself up to the fletchings in a leg joint near it's abdomen. The spider hisses piteously.

Pratavh sends another volley of missiles slamming into the northern spider. Miniature explosions rake it's abdomen sending gore flying. They creature screeches in pain!

Mohktar misses with his first strike against the northern most spider, but the second hit stoves it's skull in. He smoothly transfers his weight onto his right foot and hits the undead warrior twice in succession raising a cloud of choking dust.

The undead responds by vomiting another swarm of scurrying, crawling and biting spiders! This disgusting spray covers Mohktar and Alwyn

Apart from raising terrible welts, the spiders have little effect on Mohktar but Alwyn feels himself growing weaker...

We should make sure this place holds no more surprises. Shiko says, and then he searches the cave making sure there are no more hidden enemies.

A thorougher investigation of the cave reveals carvings dedicated to Xithateltalasa. Under the many layers of webs you find half a dozen desiccated corpses. They originally had rich dressings but all have disintegrated over time. Among the detritus you find a smattering of ancient electrum coins, worth perhaps 50g today and a single emerald clutched in the hands of a corpse worth at least 1500gp. There where a number of scrolls but they're too damaged by time and the elements to be readable.

What are you doing next? The storm rages on outside.

Kn Religion DC 25:
Xithateltalasa was a heretical splinter cult from three or four hundred years ago that worshiped the spider aspect of Dhalavei. The undead warrior was likely a true believer who 'became one' with the corruption of spiders.

Looking at Mohktar and Alwyn, Lilly points out the fact the three of them are hurt.

With the things dead Pratavh dismisses the tentacles back to wherever it is such things come from then takes a seat on a convenient rock while the wounded are tended to. When he sees Shikyomaru he says, "My apologies for that rather poor placement of tentacles, I thought hampering their movements as much as possible in here was the best thing I could do. Of course you also did a fine job of disappearing too."

The party spends a long, uncomfortable night in the cave, kept for hours by the incessant thunder and the howling winds. Eventually the storm front passes you and you're left with the (mostly) soothing sounds of rainfall. Still it's hard to get comfortable enough to sleep in the creepy cave but eventually you do. When you finally do sleep it's filled with half remembered nightmares, fitful glimpses of spiders, venom and doom.

Eventually morning comes, and not feeling terribly rested you find it hard to get up, but you must. Nobody wants to spend more time in this miserable god forsaken cave. You step out to find a world transformed. Where there was once a vast forest, there are now the tops of trees poking out from a vast lake. The wet season is most definitely here.

Perception DC 25:
In the small hours you thought you saw something outside the cave. Perhaps it was a flash of yellowish eyes in the distance? Or maybe it was a trick of the light. You're not sure but for days now you've felt like you've been watched. Still you can't help wondering if you're jumping at shadows, since there's never been any firm evidence.

Survival DC 20:
There's a single clawed footprint about 50 yards from the cave. Its pointing towards the cave. Curiously enough very little rain has collected in the indentations, and the print is sharp and well defined, suggesting it's fresh. You can't really tell what made it except it's something at least as big as a tall man. PS None of the NPCs will roll this unless asked.


Bala looking worse for wear groggily climbs out of the cave and surveys the now waterloged forest. He sighs, "Hama sabhī taraha sē dham̐sā jaṅgala bhara mēṁ yahāṁ sē ēka viśāla cāpa mēṁ cārōṁ ōra calā jātā hai ki ucca jamīna kā ēka rija, vahām̐ jā rahā hō jānā cāhi'ē. Vudrani:
We should get going, there's a ridge of high ground that goes around in a huge arc from here all the way across the sunken forest. It's going to be a long walk perhaps two weeks to get to Lechmugee.

Bala's route is long, hard and mountainous. It will get you to Lechmugee, but his estimate of two weeks is optimistic.

There is another way. A day's travel south east of here there's a marsh, a careful route exists through it. It's difficult in places, going from low hill to low hill, but nothing the Elephants can't cope with. Vest of all and it's more or less direct as the crow flies. You'll be in Lechmugee in five days, give or take. The downside is the many mosquitoes and other bloodsucking insects are going to eat you alive.

Master Bala, perhaps it is the long night and the fight with the creatures within the cave, but I believe there is another way. By the maps I studied when we had a little time in town before leaving; your route is accurate but the estimated time is very optimistic. Is there not another route that leads by a more direct route past the Marsh? We would need to be careful for sure, but the danger would not be something your majestic elephants could not overcome???
