August takes another laser blast from the pocket of gunmen near the north wall. One of them yells out - "Downside UUUUUP!". At the same moment, the gunman targeted by the kasatha with the rifle takes a bullet to the upper chest and yells out - "21 on the 4-wheeler with the long stick!" while firing wide right on Idar. Finally, a laser flies so far above Telion's head that he's not even sure that he was fired upon.

August, you now have 4/7 stamina points. Idar has gone already this round. August and Telion may act! (Diamaante has indicated a gunman for you to fire on if you'd like a +1 bonus to hit, BTW - let me know if you take her up on the offer.)

He'll try to put down the ganger and then after this get back into cover. August flashes back to the colony, the last time he was in a fire fight as he continues to return fire from partial cover.

Her blast is true, and the enemy, reeling and shaking his head after the solarian pummelled him with a small satellite doesn't even see the laser blast to the back of his neck that topples him. She turns her gaze on the thug closest to her - (NE position, NOT the furthest away) - and repeats her curious catch-phrase: "Get 'em, boys!"

I've replaced the dead thug's image - and Duravor Kreel's - on the map with a negative image so as to denote death. Unconscious creatures will simply be placed upside-down, FYI. Also, Diamaante has extended her +1 to hit to the thug identified above.

Telion, I've taken the initiative to have you bypass your attack on the faceless wonder that August just murdered and continue on to the next thug tucked into the barrel bunker.

Telion brings his glowing purple fist down hard on the side of the gunman, knocking him well out of his defensive stance, though he remains on his feet. Coordinated Shot on this one as well.

STARFINDER variance from PATHFINDER: I have read and re-read the rules. There is no mention of the need to take a -4 when firing into melee. There is no Precise Shot feat anymore. There is only cover. I think it makes sense, given the automatic nature of most missile weapons. If anyone sees the rule, please point it out to me, but otherwise - There is no -4 penalty to firing into melee.

Jaxom, the burn damage that you're indicating is the critical hit damage, which you would only get on a natural 20. Your regular damage - 4hp of it in this case - is fire damage.

This tattoo denotes induction of the branded person in the 'Downside Kings'. The Downside Kings are a brutal street gang that controls several decks of Absalom Station’s lower levels, or “Downside,” through a combination of intimidation and violence. They are known to engage in a wide variety of illegal activities, from extortion, fraud, robbery, smuggling, and theft, to drug and arms trafficking, kidnapping, murder-for-hire, and trafficking in sentient species.

The gruff lead officer replies to the queries about the safety of Absalom Station while his subordinates question each person individually, taking down names, identification numbers, and stories.

"Yeah, well, that was before I got here," the large and gruff moustachioed security chief blusters, "but Todge Breem is back from his Akiton attachment, and he's ready to kick some ass. I don't care if it's Downside Kings or these Level 21 scrappers, Captain Todge Breem of AS Home Security's going to clean up this mess."

He scoffs at his own words, then adds to Diamaante: "I'm Todge, by the way. The pleasure is all mine."

None of the security detail notice the comm pad that Jaxom has ferreted away inside his clothes, or if they did, they assumed that it wasn't claimed from the dwarf. Efficiently, four of the officers (with Todge overseeing them), make their way through the two dozen people - including yourselves - present at Docking Bay 94 when the attack occurred. You each are offered an opportunity to give an account of what happened, in addition to giving your name and identification number.

    Identification Number:
If you've been on Absalom Station for longer than a fortnight, you're issued an AS ID number. If you've spent time in the past on Absalom Station (AS for short) for greater than a fortnight, you've been given an AS ID number. For purposes of flavour, your AS ID number is your SFS ID number (the first part). If this is your first time on AS, you do not have an AS ID number.....yet.

In addition to the organic security detail, you note the security droids accessing both of the information kiosks (coloured pink on the map), while the third circles the group, weapons trained at the ready. Lastly, the other officer seems to be medically-trained, as he has been triaging and treating four other victims of the crossfire. He comes up to August; he is the korasha lashunta (I goofed the name earlier) that spoke to Idar and Telion previously. He speaks aloud to August.

August eyes the Lieutenant warily, knowing the Pact Worlds charged for medical care. Which was, admittedly, better than the rationed care from home.

Yes, it did get a bit warm in here. Fortunately the gang members weren't packing optimal weapons. Is there a charge?

If not August graciously accepts medical care.

    If there is a charge:

Thank you, Lieutenant, but no I will be fine with a few minutes rest.
My nanites are currently repairing any superficial damage done during this encounter.

August takes a delicate sniff of the air.

I don't suppose there's a good barbecue restaurant on the station?

  • Telion complied with the officers' requests. When the lashunta officer contacted him he replied in kind, "Thanks, glad to know station security has sharp eyes and minds to back them up." Noting one of the thugs' tattoos, Telion supposed these were the Downside Kings he had heard mention of before.

When Captain Todge spoke up, Telion replied with a smile, "Sounds like you've got quite a bit of ass to kick, Captain. I wish you good luck in all your boot-to-rear related hunting."

"I guess Duravor had many contacts. I was asked to come here as well, and it would seem he was a pretty good judge of character since we all stuck around to help quell the violence. Well... either that or all the other people he invited down here ran off and we're the only ones dumb enough to stick around. Anyways, I worked with him once, a while back, though I never really got to know him. Supposedly he works for the Starfinders, and had some recon work for us. If he's lucky, he might have some friends with the Starfinders that are able to fix him up. Either way, perhaps we should go let them know what happened to him?"

"This is accident/incident indemnity-related; there is no charge," begins Lt Mari as he starts to look at August's blast wounds. He visibly recoils from August as he touches the android's frame with a cold realisation evident in his eyes. "Oh, you're non-organic. I'm not skilled in your medical care."

    Quote:
"I don't suppose there's a good barbecue restaurant on the station?"

The medic picks up his med-pack as he steps away from August and replies. "Yeah, there's a good place in Kemanis - Jose's - but it's all the same to your kind, isn't it?"

Two of the guards seem to be in charge of investigating the dead bodies, including 4 gunmen, Duravor, and another nameless resident of Docking Bay 94. They're not spontaneously offering you anything from the dead's possessions.

Idar agrees with Telion. "Perhaps other Starfinders will know what Kreel planned. Loss of life is much regrettable, but I must still find work."

When questioned, Idar will give his account of what happened: debarking the shuttle, the gunfight, finding cover, and eventually opening fire on the gangs to prevent other bystanders and good Samaritans from being hurt. He explains that he doesn't have an identification number, having just arrived, scheduled to meet a man who he believes is now one of the bodies cooling on the deck.

The explanation will go more smoothly if one of the officers speaks Kasatha better than Idar speaks Common.

"Ummm, excuse me Captain Todge Breem, am I wrong in assuming that there is a clause in the station's codes that accounts for situations like this, whereby those attacked and aggrieved by other parties are entitle to recompense for damages, both real and emotional? In a case such as this, any credits, weapons, or other equipment carried by the aggressors should be considered as forfeit to the aggrieved, namely us."

Ah, I see this sort of thing all the time Lieutenant. I must admit I find it odd that so many humans have a problem with androids. For some reason you organics react badly when robotic killing machines walk amongst you.

    Watching. Learning. Planning.

By the way, do you find your living quarters acceptable? I need to find a place in the near future and am looking for a convenient storage space for my possessions.

  • Telion's thoughts bubble up in August's mind, "Not exactly friendly anymore. You'd think working on a station like this would give him an appreciation for diversity. You did well keeping that other crew off our backs in the firefight, so thanks for that. And Jose's isn't worth your time. You should give Kip's Kickin' Kitchen a try. Best sky fisher ribs you'll find outside of Castrovel."

"Charmed, I'm sure," Diamaante says, holding her hand out to the captain. "Perhaps we might speak again at a later time, when the circumstances are less morbid?"

After giving her account of the events, she joins the other four men who helped fight off the thugs. "You probably all know who I am now, even if my catchphrase from Chrono-Rangers of Castrovel didn't give it away earlier. Like all of you, I was here to meet with the poor, unfortunate Kreel. If my first experience with this space station is any indication, this a dangerous place to navigate alone. I think we would all be best served by sticking together from here on out."

I guess I'll use quotations for speech too!

"Thank you good sir, I'm always on the look out for good food. For reasons I don't understand some organics think my sense of taste is nonexistent. Does Kip's Kickin' Kitchen have chicken?"

August turns towards Diamaante in surprise.

"I beg your pardon madam, am I supposed to know what Chrono-Rangers of Castrovel is? Is that a documentary about time traveling elves you narrated?"

August is being perfectly honest, he has no idea who Diamaante is since he's spent the last year catching up on galactic history and learning various languages giving him no time for any fictional holovids. Which I'm assuming Chrono-Rangers of Castrovel is.

Lt Mari scoffs at the insult. "If I were a human, I'd take more of an insult. I am lashunta, 'August Vydoc', if that is your real name. Just watch yourself on AS. Not everyone is as egalitarian as you might think." The lashunta leaves the group and heads for the bodies of the felled gunmen near the northeast corner of the docking bay.

The gruff captain stares at Jaxom as he rambles through his quote of AS code of enforcement. Once done, the captain grunts. "I could care less what becomes of these criminal elements worldly possessions, but firearms can be traced and tracked once fired, so those are AS Security property, as are flight suits and armour due to our ability to detect trace forensic evidence. You can have everything else. That ok with you?"

He lowers his voice and grunts again at Jaxom in a less-gruff voice. "Preliminary security footage seems to show you and your colleagues there defending some of the other citizens here in Docking Bay 94 from the firefight. If it were completely up to me, you'd get more than the spoils of war. Take the loot with my thanks." He then moves along to other citizens to address their pressing concerns.
