"Gangsters tried to kill us also. Wound friend Android. Never much investigate, but will do best."
Chiskisk makes a gulping noise.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I don't believe I got your name when I asked everyone else for their name."
Chiskisk awaits the kasatha's response, their appendage dangling over their handheld computer.

Sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
"Many apologies. My name is Idar..." He stops suddenly, as if cutting himself off. "Just Idar." He sighs.
He gives August a strange look. "I know difference between Shirren and Swarm. Hope you do as much."

Diamaante quirks an eyebrow at Idar's formal introduction. He is a curious kasatha indeed. She wonders what his full story might be. Perhaps she will learn more about him if they spend more time together.
| Telion of Castrovel |
Telion recalled his time with Devros Enga and the stories he had told of his people. Simply 'Idar' seemed odd, but the kasatha's body language was enough to dissuade Telion from prying questions.

The shirren acknowledges Idar.
"A pleasure, Idar. Now, I've just transferred 200 credits to each of your accounts as a recruiting bonus. Plus expenses, of course. I've also sent you each my personal comm code in case you need to communicate with Starfinder HQ - I'll be your contact person for now. I will stress that you are NOT official Starfinder agents, so I would advise against announcing yourself as such. That will provide you some anonymity, but it will also mean that you're flying mainly solo."
Chiskisk regards August.
"You are teeming with questions, aren't you? Duravor only kept an efficiency here near the Lorespire Complex - I believe his main residence is...was on one of the ships in the Armada. Though the myriad folks who own and operate the Armada fleet have myriad opinions about accessing personal effects of their residents, I have no trouble with letting you access Duravor's living quarters. He had no family on Absalom Station, so no entanglement concerns. He was staying at a hotel called the Moons of Sleep. I can have Loretta-3 give you directions on the way out. As I mentioned, Security has ruled the incident as gang warfare, and are not likely to pursue it further than that. I'd advise trying other avenues than the Security here on AS unless you know someone in particular. I know nothing of the two gangs involved in the shooting - there are numerous gangs on AS, but, as I said, they rarely make their presence known so publicly."
Finally, the shirren regards Jaxom.
"Duravor was involved with recruiting and adapting new Starfinder agents, and especially in the wake of the Scoured Stars incident, his loss will be particularly felt. I know he had a background in miners' rights activism, but what he was doing outside of his official Starfinder Society work scope, I could not tell you. He was to bring you, as a group of prospective Starfinder agents, to me for a try-out. It seems, as you say Telion, that your audition will be investigating his death. Odd, that."
Chiskisk stands up as a holographic image projects onto his desk with an "Incoming" message flashing amber. "As you can see, I have other business to attend to. You have my details. The Moons of Sleep is not a bad place to rest, if I may suggest it. They partner with the Starfinder Society, and will offer you a special rate as prospects - one of the only boons I can offer you from official Starfinder business at present. Please excuse me now."
With that, they politely usher you out of the office into the hallway where Loretta-3 awaits.
"I understand that you need directions to the Moons of Sleep hotel?" they ask as Chiskisk's office door closes.
| Telion of Castrovel |
"Makes sense. Charting new systems and uncovering ancient lore can be a dangerous and lucrative venture. They have to pay their agents well if they want quality recruits. And yes, Loretta-3, please."
August Vydoc

August frowns after they're hurried out of a meeting.
Check into this Chiskisk to determine if they have any connection to the possible assassination of Durovar Kreel. Locate home address for possible search.
Also can you direct us to the closest trusted gun dealer?
Turning back to his newfound companions he's mentally tagged Starfinder TG-1 August will try and look vaguely sympathetic.
After the search of Mr. Kreel's hotel room we should probably try and reach out to the Armada to determine if he had any enemies. Failing that we should head to Level 21 to detain and interrogate of a member of the Level 21 crew. Does anyone have any moral objections to such a venture that I should be aware of before we start?
Idar the Houseless

As the group is ushered out to the Moons of Sleep hotel, Idar ponders their situation. He may not be the sharpest sentient on the Station, but he's perfectly adequate by Kasatha standards and he knows he can figure something out, given time.
Perhaps the dwarf's domicile will provide clues.
Diamaante
|
"As long as you actually mean 'interrogate' and not 'torture', I have no qualms about the plan," Diamaante says. "Let's check out the dwarf's quarters."
August Vydoc

"One man's interrogation..."
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
August will try and watch his surroundings on Kreel's way to their quarters but he's busying thinking of waffles.

Loretta-3 glances at August as they travel out the front door of the Lorespire Complex.
"...can you direct us to the closest trusted gun dealer?"
"By the emphasis on the word 'trusted', and the implications of the contrary, I will infer that you wish to deal with an arms merchant who has no known criminal associations," they exposit. "In this instance, I can recommend Steel Fletchings in the Ring District at locus 834.311 NW, or Yazari's Askance at locus 200.116 SSE in the Eye. I would further advise you that both of these merchants require secured credsticks for any transaction."
Loretta-3 responds to August's unspoken question. "It is to preserve their reputation as merchants of high moral code. You'd need to speak to a financial organisation about acquiring a secured credstick. The Starfinder Society, of course, can provide secured credsticks to properly-vetted agents. Your hotel is east approximately 2000 metres from our current location and on your left. Be sure to mention that you're recruits of the Starfinder Society in order to get discounted rooms. I will need Duravor Kreel's comm-pad returned to me as it is Starfinder Society property, please." She awaits the return of Kreel's device.
I'm assuming that you return the device to her.
"Thank you. Good day." Loretta-3 turns and re-enters the Lorespire Complex.
Loretta-3's directions bring you directly to the Moons of Sleep hotel.
Let me know if you'd like to go anywhere else prior to entering the Moons of Sleep.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Diamaante glances around outside the hotel, but doesn't notice anything out of the ordinary. "Seems like a decent enough place. If we don't find what we're looking for in Kreel's room, we can ask around to see if any other guests saw anything unusual in the past few days."
August Vydoc
|
"Not the highest class place in the whole station, but at least they don't rent the rooms by the hour," observes Jaxom. "Shall we?"
"What's wrong with by the hour rooms? Some people need get just a few hours of sleep while they're on the move."
Diamaante
|
Diamaante smirks at August. "Sometimes people rent hotel rooms to engage in illicit activities. Sexual intercourse, mostly. And that usually doesn't take more an hour," she informs the android telepathically.
August Vydoc
|
"Is sexual intercourse not allowed on your homeworld? I don't remember reading that but where I come from it was highly encouraged, even if it was supposed to be private."
Diamaante
|
"Oh, it's allowed. But the people who use hotel rooms for the act are usually doing it with people they shouldn't--prostitutes or extra-marital affairs, for example."
Jaxom Sandstrom

Jaxom will see about accessing a public terminal inside the hotel...

"Hmm, interesting. Breakfast is served daily from 0600-0900. Let me see what else I can find out."
GM Dinketry

An androgynous half-elf sits in a small check-in booth in the compact and clean lobby of the Moons of Sleep hotel. Soft light and faintly soft chimes assail your senses, highlighting that, for most of you, you have had a very long and a very busy day so far. A closed door down a short hallway past the check-in booth seems to be the only other exit to this austere lobby.
"Hey there, travellers," the half-elf calls to you in a relaxed fashion from the enclosed booth, "you've come to the right place - the Moons of Sleep. I'm Landry, and I'm here to help you chill - whether you're here for a night or a moon-night, we've got a pillow with your name on it." Landry looks pointedly at the group with a wry grin. "Not literally, of course."
| Telion of Castrovel |
Telion noted the android's smirk and looked at Diamaante. "It seems that you've found a fan among us after all, though it may not be for your acting."
"Nothing wrong with simple quarters. As long as it is clean and quiet, I'll be happy. I've seen enough places that don't meet those criteria lately. But let's see about Duravor's room first." The lashunta led the way up to the Moons of Sleep's front desk and asked, "Excuse me, we're new recruits of the Starfinder Society. Chiskisk has asked us to look into the recent death of an agent, Duravor Kreel, as well as see about arranging rooms for ourselves here. Would it be possible for us to take a look at his room, to see if there are any clues about past conflicts or anyone that may want to kill him?"

Diamaante glances at Telion. "Please. I was merely enlightening him regarding humanoid nature. It's not my fault if his thoughts strayed in a prurient direction. I merely tend to have that effect on people."
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Inside, she telepathically informs Jaxom about the lack of computer terminals so he doesn't go off looking for them. She waits to hear the half-elf's response.

If there are two numbers for the same check, assume that it is one check. I'll let you know if you need to make more than one check.
"Excuse me, we're new recruits of the Starfinder Society. Chiskisk has asked us to look into the recent death of an agent, Duravor Kreel, as well as see about arranging rooms for ourselves here. Would it be possible for us to take a look at his room, to see if there are any clues about past conflicts or anyone that may want to kill him?"
Landry smiles widely. "Well, I've not been waiting you long!" The smile turns off briefly. "Terrible news to hear about the dwarf. He had been staying with us a number of turns, on and off. May the Forever Queen grant him peace, and the Lady clear his path."
Landry ducks down out of sight in the attendant booth while still talking to you. "I had just completed the authorisation of temporary transfer on the room tag when you arrived. Here's that chit." Landry comes back up with the same easy smile and hands Telion a tiny piece of stylised circuit board.
"Now, can I ask what sorts of rooms that you'd like? We have single-person efficiencies that feature food preparation units for 16 credits per week at your special corporate rate, as well as 2-bedroom suites that feature a morning meal service at 50 credits per week."
As you sort through your options, Landry also adds. "Oh yeah, which one of you is August?"
August Vydoc
|
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Does the half-elf have a datajack?
August steps forward, curious at the lack of computer terminals.
"I am August Vydoc, if that is who you are inquiring about."
GM Dinketry
|
Jaxom's comm-pad screen flashes green with a brief message: "Room 34-122 Access Granted, Moons of Sleep, Inc."
Landry hands through to August a data chit of his own. "This was sent over from the Lorespire Complex for you," the half-elf says from within his enclosed attendant's office.
He likely has some sort of computer interface that he's using, but you cannot see it.
August Vydoc
|
"Thank you."
Would I read that with my communicator or do I need a computer terminal?
"If you have it I'd like a room far from the elevators but close to the exits, interior with no windows. If you have it."
GM Dinketry
|
August inserts the data chit into his personal comm device.
Landry smiles a wide smile at the android. "I can get you a room to your specifications, August," he continues in his relaxed fashion. "That will be 16 credits for your first week. Would you like me to set up an auto-debit from your credit account now, or just the first week?"
August Vydoc
|
"I'll pay as I go. You accept deductions from a credstick I assume?"
August will produce the credstick he got as spoils from the gangers in Docking Bay 94 to deduct the 16 credits from, trying to stay away from giving his (currently minuscule) account's information out in case this Landry was the one who sold out Kreel's location.
Note to self: get Jaxom to access Kreel's bank records to determine if his movements were tracked via transaction geolocation.
| Telion of Castrovel |
To Diamaante, Telion replied, "I meant only that he seems to have taken a liking to your banter. Though you may be right. It seems that such things are both our pleasure and our burden."
GM Dinketry
|
"Would anyone else like to rent a room using your special corporate rate?" Landry offers.
I believe that Jaxom has all of the credsticks from Docking Bay 94, August.
Jaxom collects the credsticks, pockets them, and turns to the others.
