Guys, I see no problem in a couple OOC posts inside your posts but if try to keep completely OOC posts in the discussion tab please. Looks like the crit generator saved Caggan's bacon this time!

Ahreni starts to leave the tavern as Marcellus moves forward with his flail in plain sight, Caggan, that apparently intended to solve this bar brawl with just his fists, draws his warhammer while he moves to strike Marcellus... when he is in range, Marcellus hits the tavern keeper with a mighty blow, momentarily numbing him and almost making him drop his weapon.

Caggan swings his hammer at Marcellus but misses thanks to his armor. The barmaids moves to help Caggan once they see blood running from his forehead, attacking with a serving tray and a bottle from the nearby table... both miss Marcellus, even if the serving tray passed really close of his head, only missing thanks to the crowd still moving around. The last barmaid sends a glass flying at Melani but it lands harmlessly on the floor.

Combat Rolls:
Numbing Blow Normal damage and 1d4 ⇒ 1 Dex damage and target is disarmed (1 item, Ref negates drop).
Reflex DC 17 - Caggan, grazed: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 1 = 17 success

Vicenzo found himself yelling at Marcellus, "You're going to spill his brains all over the floor with that. We were going to make an example out of him. Not a martyr!"

Not wanting to add to the bloodshed, the witch concentrated on disabling the barmaids, one at a time. He burped; his stomach convulsed, and he unleashed his curse on one of the girls attacking Marcellus.

"Sleep child. It will be over soon."

He wanted that to sound comforting but knew that people would take that as creepy. His looks never helped.

The closest barmaid suddenly falls unconscious into the floor, lost in disturbing nightmares, provoking a couple screams of "Dark magic!" among the fleeing patrons. Anarxos moves closer to Caggan, successfully intimidating him but the man seems too stubborn to follow his orders. Echoing Anarxos command, Melani grabs her holy symbol and ushers the same phrase towards one of the other barmaids, carrying divine power in them... soon after the woman throws herself into the ground.

Kel song seems to be boosting the morals of the remaining barmaid and Caggan, and Ahreni takes the opportunity to leave the establishment without suspicion. Cimri draws her sap while she moves towards the last barmaid standing.

Clearly not happy about being attacked by Caggan, Marcellus swings his heavy flail once more, taking care to aim for Caggan's stomach instead of his head this time. Caggan loses his breath and is staggered by the powerful attack, dropping his hammer soon after and gesturing for him to stop. "No more... no more... I won't waste my life for this..." As soon as he surrenders, the remaining barmaid drops the bottle from her hand and slowly moves away from you. Kel has also stopped singing, clearly worried and looking around for a way out.

Glad it was over, Vicenzo let out a sigh of relief. It could have gone a lot worse than it did.

He neared the fallen man, "Well, I hope you realize that you just made this whole affair worse than it needed to be."

He directed his eyes at the barmaids, "You three can go and spread the word of how just the Archbaron is. We have not killed Caggan even after he raised a weapon with murderous intent on us."

He pointed to his sash, "You see this? We represent the lawful authority in Longacre. Don't you forget it!"

He looked at Kel, "And you? We have some questions we'd like to ask you so don't make this hard on yourself and cooperate with the law. Understood?"

Feeling mighty proud of his first assignment, Vicenzo let the others apprehend Caggan and question Kel.

Wanting to berate the irresponsible fighter right now Melani bites her tongue and says nothing, for now. If Marcellus cannot follow a simple plan what good will he be to us? she thinks. With Vicenzo's words, the barmaids flee the scene through the backdoor in the kitchen. Hidden in the shadows, Ahreni starts to follow them.

Ahreni:
It is easy for you to follow the barmaids that move together towards the center of Longacre thanks to many other patrons leaving the tavern. You notice that one of them constantly looks back and whispers to the others and after a couple words they disperse, making it impossible for you to follow all of them. Unfortunately, the one you chose to follow just went for her home.

Caggan doesn't resist when Marcellus shoves him but tries to resist Melani's magic. "Get away from me... I do not want your cursed God's help!" After Melani successfully touches the man and he fails to resist her magic, he starts to mumble to himself, apparently not caring that his wounds were being healed. "What have she done to me? She cursed me once more..."

Kels puts his lute on his belt and raises both his hands. "I...I have no desire to resist. I'll give you answers if you want them, even if you want not any truth, just your truth..." Having said this, he moves towards you. The bard seems to have believed in Melani's words, even if he already showed no desire to flee from you or trying anything foolish.

Lacking any sort of shackles, manacles, or even a rope, you are forced to tightly hold Caggan and Kels while you guide them to the jail. They don't try to escape at any moment and even if a couple townspeople glared at you, none of them tried to interfere.

On your next posts, let me know where/if you'll be locking each of them and where/who you'll interrogate. In any circumstance, when you try to convince/talk to them, do not forget to give me the appropriate rolls (diplomacy, bluff, or intimidate).

He swallows hard and calms down a bit before continuing. "I came across a woman in winged plate armor at dawn a couple days ago atop Millers Hill, that one 2 miles northwest just outside of town. He replays in his mind the satisfying moment of impact as his flail smashed into the head of the scapegoat for his failings. I should have killed him, he thinks. If we release him he will only go back to his unlawful ways and keep disobeying the law. He grimaces. He will suffer in the stocks, though, he thinks with satisfaction.

When the others inform Marcellus that Kels has been released, he is furious. "You let him go? And you believed him, that he met this so-called 'angel knight?' That man is a predator. He preys on the gullible and the innocent and corrupts them with his lies!" Marcellus clenches his fists. "You don't know him like I do. He is filth," he snaps, venom in his tone. What he does not say is the reason why he is so certain Kels is a menace. He knows the man has designs on his wife. Why else would he spend so long conversing with her after Iomedean services? It's not her fault, Marcellus thinks. She is being seduced. There is nothing I can do about my age, this filth is just a younger man and is plying her with sweet words and the same lies Iomedeans always spread.

Vicenzo was cautious when he spoke to Marcellus. Loose cannon this one.

"Yes, we let him go. I think he got the message. In any case, what part about not going over board did you not understand?"

He sighed, "If we're not careful here, all hell will break loose and the hellknights will be called in."

He quickly added, "And if that happens, not only will we lose favor with the Archbaron, the archbaron may be ousted for not being to control the town."

He sat down, "It seems you have issues with Kels and that's Ok. Like I said, we'll keep a close eye on him. OK? Heck if you want, I can send him to nightmare land so he knows we're not kidding here."

Eager to leave this interrogation room, Kels nods vehemently first to Melani and then to Anarxos and Vicenzo. "Yes, as you wish, just let me go... I've told you everything I knew!" At Vicenzo's veiled threat, he continues. "I promise to abide by the rightful law, I swear!"

When none of you detect any lie in his words, Anarxos nods before leading Kels outside, speaking once more the benefits of choosing the right side. With Kels taken care of, Anarxos and Cimri lead Caggan to the pillory and lock him up... he initially try to resist but the simple glimpse of Marcellus still bloodied flail quickly remembers him of the dire consequences. You are able to close by without alerting those inside. Anarxos lets his companions deal with Kels as the bard leaves the jail, yet there's something in the nobleman's eyes that shows he's still wary of him. He observes Kels walk away, at the same time gloating over his success and indulging himself with a smug grin.

He quickly snaps out of his reverie and answers Melani. "I think we should leave Caggan on the pillory. He might be much more responsive to my questions once he's served his punishment. Perhaps we should get some rest. Marcellus, would you watch Caggan?" Suppressing a small yawn, he then remembers something he meant to do earlier. Going over the many supplies they found in the Sheriff's office, he grabs the saps and curative potions and hands one to all his companions. "There, these should help deal with any refractory to the new laws in a more... suitable manner. Where's Ahreni?"

When she returns, he listens carefully to every word she says, stroking his beard as he ponders his next move, very much like a chess player. "That's good work, Ahreni. We should definitely try to gather intelligence on these would-be rebels, lest they should try to spring a bad surprise on us. In the morning Melani approaches Anarxos. I could use some help. How would you like for a priestess of Asmodeus to owe you a favor? What I need to know is if a lady named Clariona lives in Longacre and if so what she might be up to. I'd also like to find out if one Sathursta, a fire mage, is about. I have reason to believe both might be. Sathursta could be, well, favorably disposed to me and might like to see me again. But Clariona could be quite unhappy to see me here and it might upset her to the point of, well at least indirect violence. I plan to ask about today to see what I can find. I'd like both your help, and your company.

On her way out she will check on the prisoner and will make a point of stopping by The Arch and Lark to inform Fordaneil Cembers of Caggan's fate. This assumes she knows about her feelings for Caggan. I am not sure we know everything listed in your longacre handout. If this is ok let me know and I will go into more detail on Melani's specific actions. I'd like to try to befriend and eventually recruit Fordaneil.

Anarxos seems somehow relieved that nothing ill happened during the night. After a shave at the local barber, he meets with his law-abiding companions.

"I intend to interrogate Caggan when we free him at nightfall. I think one day is enough to make an example, and we should reserve a sterner punishment for repeated offenses only. Melani, I will of course help you in your endeavor, since I also need help in return. Direct us and we'll help. For now, do you need us to gather intelligence about this Clariona?"

"I'd like to request you aid too to look for Mr. Devranal, who alledgedly lives in a farm a couple miles northwest of Longacre. Maybe we could search the area in the next few days?"

***At nightfall***
Anarxos shows up early to visit the sheriff's office and see to Caggan's release. Checking to see if the innkeeper's will and resolve have been broken or strengthened by the ordeal, he gets closer and has Marcellus free him and bring him inside the office. "Your punishment has come to an end, Caggan. Come inside, we have to talk."

Once the innkeeper is set on one of the deputies' chairs and the door has been closed the interrogation begins, almost informal at first. "You have served your time, Caggan, but we must make sure that you will not repeat the offense. Understand that we have been rather light on your punishment this time. Breaking the curfew, assaulting the Archbaron's men... we could have been infinitely more strict with you. And we will, if you do not abide by the Archbaron's laws. @Ahreni: Cimri was actually with you but we can assume that she left for the Ash house to sleep. This way your action still makes sense.

After securing that Caggan was still held firmly in the pillory, you move around the town, each with your own purpose. Ahreni arrives in the Ash House just as Cimri was preparing to meet you in the jail and soon after she debriefs with Razelago, the two return to the jail, talking about Ahreni's plan of finding a couple ears and eyes of trust among Longacre's citizens. Cimri is more than willing to help and even enlists the help of Marcellus. Ahreni convinces a cobbler through soft-talking him, while Cimri bullies two urchins to join you, and Marcellus reaches for two of his veteran friends.

Anarxos, Melani and Vicenzo roam around the town gathering information, even if all of them notice little the townspeople unwilling to lend too much help. Luckily, now and then they generally find some Thrune supporter, with the exception of Vicenzo who receives only mean words and angry looks.

Ahreni:
Razelago is please with how you handled Caggan, even if a little disgusted by Marcellus behavior, but compliments you for being able to take the reigns of the situation before it went out of control.

Anarxos:
You were rewarded by plenty of useful information by the end of the day, or the complete lack of it, which not always is a bad thing. You failed to ascertain for sure Sathurta's location but you were able to confirm his presence in town. He has been also searching for information, looking for a farmer named Kol.

Regarding Clariona, you find absolutely nothing, even if you feel you were quite meticulous in your search for information. It is quite uncommon for someone be so capable in hiding their steps... unless they have never been there before.

Small concerns aside, the true accomplishment of the day was the information you got about Mr. Devranal, since you were able to discover the exact location of the mysterious man's farm, about two hours northeast of Longacre, just behind a hill marked by a dead oak, hit by a lighting a long time ago. You were also able to discover that the man is very old, especially after an old crone (probably in her 60s) mentioned that she used to play with Mr. Devranal's granddaughter when she was small... the veracity of this fact is faint to say the least.

Melani:
You were able to confirm that Sathursta was indeed seen in Longacre, even if you failed to discover his location... and worse, he is looking for Kol. The townspeople you talked to were uncomfortable to talk about the mage, some of them completely terrified about him.

Regarding Clariona, you find absolutely nothing, even if you feel you were quite meticulous in your search for information. It is quite uncommon for someone be so capable in hiding their steps... unless they have never been there before.

When you finally return to the jail, you find a man patiently waiting for you. This middle-aged man has a deep black hair, an unruly short beard with many flaws, and a thin frame. As you come closer he smiles before introducing himself. "Good night gentlemen! And ladies, of course! I'm Ingoe Zoags, Longacre's dockmaster, appointed by the archbaron himself." He bows to you slightly. "I was hoping to talk to you about a small business accord I'm thinking about, from loyal-citizen to loyal-citizen... obviously away from prying eyes of the rabble..." He indicates Caggan and a couple townspeople before pointing his head towards the jail.

Knowledge (local) DC 15 - to know more about Mr. Ingoe:
More than a decade ago, Mr. Ingoe weaseled a commission out of the archbaron and has served as town dockmaster ever since. Most townsfolk loathe Mr. Ingoe, knowing his reputation for "losing" interesting freight or suddenly turning stickler about cargo weights and packaging. Most go out of their way to stay on his good side, though, never knowing when they might need him to pass along whatever might show up on his dock. You also know that Mr. Ingoe keeps his own version of a "dead letters" room, one of a series of shacks on the opposite bank of the Whisper that serve as his home and warehouses.

My sources tell me the same thing Anarxos. Melani confirms. Were you able to get a read on what he might want with this Kol and if eh is indeed in Longacre?

Sense Motive, oh somewhere around 18:

Melani is actually more interested in Kol than Sathurta, though she tries to hide it.
