| Sudara |
When they are alone, Sudara holds his arms out and begins to concentrate.
"While you guys check your gear, give me a moment please."
For the next minute Sudara stands with a wide stance and his arms outstretched. He chants in celestial, beginning a long supplication of various deities rarely mentioned outside of his own lands. The Ox, Rat, Pig, Rooster, Dog, Monkey, Sheep, Horse, Snake, Rabbit, Tiger, and Dragon all are given proper names with various supplications made to each.
As he chants, a wispy form begins to appear, starting as an insubstantial mist. The form begins to swirl and settle as a serpentine creature resembling a long sinewy flightless dragon with scrabbly legs and foreclaws. Golden scaled with large eyes and a red beard, the creature roars fiercely before stretching and settling near Sudara. It observes it's surroundings, then spins back to face the summoner.
| Kami no Sosen |
"Insolent whelp! Respectless waif! Do you know how long you kept me waiting? One does not refuse their Revered Ancestor for a period of weeks! Simpering child I should rend you apart here and leave your paltry treasures for the rogues and scandalous characters you have surrounded yourself with!"
The dragon snorts, his voice heavy and rough. Puffs of steam rise from his large nostrils as he glares at Sudara.
| Natalie Labelle |
Natalie was perplexed.
She had expected the dwarf to be here, as well as the dark haired half-elf. Three people to rid some dungeons of some pesky vermin. Instead, they had a grand total of eight people taking a job that probably didn't require more than half of their number. It certainly made things very cramped, at least, the wizard hanging in the back.
A good number of the people in the group were oddities as well. The gnome with his complex looking firearm who was incredibly pushy. The taller half-elf seemed to take an unusual interest in her. So had the other strange human, the one who had attempted to buy her breakfast - she hadn't been able to tell him that her room came with board included.
Now that same person was weaving patterns with his fingers and chanting in a language that Natalie didn't recognize off hand. She tried to analyze this from an arcane point of view, before a serpentine creature was summoned. More than that, it actually spoke! She blinked, surprised to see such an advanced spell - though she wondered the point of casting it now when it should only last but for a minute.
Spellcraft on the summoning: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Know Arcana on the creature: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Once the group got moving, she'd follow along with them - hopefully, they would split up and take the tunnels in two groups. There was more than enough people here, after all. Not that she'd suggest it.
Fergor
|
ack! Exclaimed Fergor, which one of you bloaks stepped on my foot? In any case, I think we might get a bit cramped in here. Now I'm no tactician, but I think we could split up a little and maje it easier on ourselves. Say two groups of four?
Fergor
|
traveling back in time a bit just prior to entering the dungeons. Fergor removes a sack from his donkey and winks at the wizard He looks sround at the tight space they are in and asks after his earlier statement. I don't suppose anyone brought torches with them eh?
| Hagnar Grimstone |
"Ach - I don't need a torch. See just fine without it. I also agree we can split up and take care of this before lunch! Maybe me, shorty there, and the two pointy-ears go one way and you humans go ta other way. We won't need the torches as much as you. Or we mix 'n' match another way...makes no difference to me! But let's get these vermin..." Hagnar says while grinning and hefting his warhammer.
| Lucian Faucon |
Lucian blinks a few times and rubs his eyes as if trying to make sense of what he has just seen.
"What in the Nine Hells is that?!?" the ranger asks Sudara, inching away from the creature.
Snapping back to the matter at hand, "Yeah, three of you go with Fergor and three of you come with me. Hopefully one of you that comes with me won't mind holding a torch. Most of my weaponry requires both of my hands."
Reigar Brolo
|
Reigar had been following the group, a few steps behind since he couldn't keep with their strides. As Jadale had closed the doors behind them Reigar grabbed the Flint and steel out of his belt pouch and a torch from his bag. He lit it and looked around him. He hadn't noticed the young woman had accompanied them. "Down here killing vermin... Gee this makes for a great story to tell father sometime... Wait, didn't they say these vermin are as big as I am..
There is a chill sent down Reigar's spine as a mist forms among them and dissipates a new sight. Reigar almost drops his torch at the sight of it. "What in the fates is that?!?! Where did it even come from?! Is it on our side??" Reigar's musket is shaking in his hand. He's seen magic before, but only as mere tricks and entertainment. This, this is astounding to him. Terrifying and fantastic, all in one moment. Reigar giggles when Fergor complains about his foot, probably hadn't noticed the gnome walk under his nose. Reigar lifts his torch and musket, standing next to the path going right. "I'm not of any preferences, however, I'll be going this way. That other way smells funny."
| Sudara |
"Kami. Just...call him Kami. Think of him like a very big version of a wizards familiar... only I can't get rid of him for good. I can banish or summon him from the heavens, but he is always mine and such is my curse."
Sudara readies his spear and casts a light spell on it's tip. He then pulls his mask over his face and prepares himself for combat, should it be necessary.
"Kami and I must travel together. He may be imperious, but that is my cross to bear and I swear him to be a valuable ally. We can go wherever we are needed."
| Natalie Labelle |
Just to clarify, Sudara, you're using Trade Tongue to speak to everyone, correct? I don't think that you have any other common languages to the rest of the group. It's good enough to give us the gist of things, but it's hardly as eloquent as you've written it out to be.
The meek wizard listened quietly to the foreigner as he attempted to convey what the serpentine creature was - she thought that she got the gist of it. It was a 'kami', and it belonged to him. It went where he went. It would fight like a dog. The details were hard to make out, but the important parts could be picked out. She pondered if he needed a proper translator.
"...um..." Natalie started to speak, before pausing and switching to Trade Tongue - she realized that not everyone here might speak Valoran, and tried her best to communicate in that fashion.
"Go with last that needs four..." She tells them, as the groups pair up.
Reigar Brolo
|
Reigar wasn't sure what to think about this "celestial" being among them. Never in his life has he seen such a thing. "Well Camino, dear being, of whatever you may be, I'm sure you'll be of great assistance to Sudara here. I believe the dwarf and Sequin should accompany me, with probably one other. Any disagreements?" He eyed the group waiting for responses. He doesn't think there is much to fear down here, however, Reigar is aware this may be a great time to build camaraderie. "Let's please not dally my fellows, the sooner we finish the more work we can go on to do. With more work is more to be earned. Follow?" Then Reigar started to step towards the room to the right, waiting forothers to ffollow.
| Hagnar Grimstone |
Hagnar stands by the gnome at the way to the room on their right (which would be west, since they're facing south...) and says, "Familiar, eidolon, pet, whatever...I don't want to be anywhere near that thing when it gets hungry and starts thinking Reigar and me look like bite-sized travel treats. Fergor, why don't you and the wizard come along with us...we'll protect ya from the rats!" Hagnar laughs and slaps Reigar on the shoulder, "Won't we, shorty!"
Fergor
|
Fergor looks to his friends warhammer, then to his own bastard sword. He shakes his head and says, Alright then, since I don't think we have to worry about our back as much, march with me, Natalie, behind Hagnar, Reigar behind me. Lets move out nice and slow as to not attract attention. His blade out and his torched shield in front of him, Fergor slowly begins down the right tunnel.
Reigar Brolo
|
Reigar nearly drops his musket from the friendly dwarf hitting him. Hopefully this wizard Aand fighter will prove effective. But he had to admit, Hagnar had a good reason to split up. "You are right my friend, I neither wish to be viewed as a morsel or left alone down here." Reigar double checks his musket. Loaded and ready. "Fear not anything, together any obstacle is menial."
| Lucian Faucon |
"Ok, I guess that leaves Lucuis, Sudara and his 'friend', and Sequin with me. Let's get a move on it." he says heading off to the left, falchion at the ready, relying on Sudara's lighted spear for illumination.

I'll be moving things along shortly. Been spending most of today trying to figure out Roll20. Sequin has had to drop for personal reasons, but will be NPCed for a brief time until he can be replaced.

Okay, not sure how this is going to work, but I have the Roll20 campaign set up. Hopefully you guys can't see more than you are supposed to (and can see what you are intended to see). Anyway, if there are issues, let me know and I'll work through them. The link is https://app.roll20.net/join/218032/Fg3mUQ.
I could not get the grid to align to the map, so I'm not using it.
| Lucuis |
Yesh, just tried out roll20 for my home group this past week since I had some people who were sick and whatnot so they couldn't show. Getting the map to fit the grid was not a trivial matter.
"Ok, with you then Lucius. " while he continues to try and maintain a brace face in the presence of the bizarre supernatural snake. He will try to be subtle as he keeps as much distance as possible from the thing.

Can everyone see the map? If so, how much of it? Can you move your own tokens?
| Lucian Faucon |
Can't do much of anything with it while at work. I will have to see what I can and can not do from home tonight when I get home.

Following the left passage, Sequin, Sudara, Lucuis, and Lucian find a square room with a large crack running across it and a passage south that leads to what appears to be a storeroom of sorts. Boxes and barrels are neatly stacked herein, though a thick layer of dust covers everything.
To the right, Hagnar, Fergor, Reigar, and Natalie discover that the northern passage dead-ends after only a few feet, but the southern passage branches off before continuing south into darkness.
| Natalie Labelle |
The nervous wizard in the back of the group darts her eyes to and fro, looking around the shadowy corners of their torch light for the strange rats. She follows the armored human man, as well as the dwarf and gnome, looking out for anything moving.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Reigar Brolo
|
Reigar curses under his breath in Gnome. Then he holds out his torch to the wizard, "Mind holding this madam, I'll need a free hand." Then he mutters something inaudibly and flicks is finger out, sending three orbs of light down the passageway, each stopping within fifteen feet of each other. "A little Gnome trick, nothing special." Then Reigar looks down the passage. Alert and ready with musket in hand.
Dancing Lights: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
The orbs flicker out quickly as they dance down the passageway. "Like I said, a trick." Then Reigar shakes his head dissatisfied.
| Lucian Faucon |
Looking at Lucuis's lack of weaponry and remembering Sequin's supposed knack for trap finding and disarming, Lucian asks, "Would we be better off with the two of you up front?"
"I have no problems being the point man, if that is what we want to do, I can switch to my bow. Either way let's decide and get on with it." he continues as he looks down the passage way.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
| Sudara |
Sudara follows with his group, whistling merrily as he holds his spear out for light. He places a hand on Sequins shoulder.

Hagnar, Natalie, Fergor, and Reigar:
You continue down the hall to the intersection, where a side passage leads into a round room that appears to be empty, save a number of thick webs.
| Natalie Labelle |
"W-Wait!" Natalie's voice squeaks from the back, the wizard trying to stop the fighter. Her voice gets quieter as soon as everyone's eyes are on her. "Um...y-you might burn something important, a-and the smoke will choke and b-blind us..." She points out, fidgeting nervously.
| Hagnar Grimstone |
Hagnar regards the mage, his tatooed face scrunching up as he mulls that over...By the Master's left nut, she's probably right about that...maybe we can just throw the gnome in there as bait and kill the spiders when they come after him?"
"Ha ha! Just playing with you, Reigar! But really, can we cut these webs or get rid of them somehow? Would acid work?" And with that last statement, Hagnar hocks a big wad of spit at the webs. Acid spit: 1d6 ⇒ 4
And this is how Hagnar will use his Earth Domain's Acid Dart power! =)
"As a standard action, you can unleash an acid dart targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. This acid dart deals 1d6 points of acid damage + 1 point for every two cleric levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier."
Fergor
|
just remember to make that ranged attack Hagnar lol
Fergor contumplates this for a moment and lowers his torch, placing it back in its sconce and drawing his blade. You have a point Natalie, you may have just saved us all a load of trouble.
Could someone move my fig down one square and right 2 squares please? I'm at work and my phone won't let me move it.

The acid sizzles at it hits the web, burning through the wire-like silk in a matter of seconds, but a lot of webs remain. So many, in fact, that the ceiling of the room (about 20 feet up), lies shrouded in gloom.
| Natalie Labelle |
Natalie glances up, fearful of what creatures lay above them - the size of the webs were indicative of the size of the spiders. She should have altered her prepared spells for this, when she really thought about it, but it wasn't as if she had much in the way of offensive magic.
Thinking to herself about it, the young wizard puts the torch down, before reaching into her own belonging and pulling out a sunrod. Striking it to make it glow even brighter than the torch light, she hands it over handle first to the fighter. "...you can, um...throw it up there so we can see...if there are spiders..."
Sunrods have 30 feet of bright light and 30 more feet of low light, which should cover all of the ceiling. It's a 2gp item, granted, but what does Natalie know, she's a noblewoman.
| Lucian Faucon |
Lucian slashes at the rat nearest him with his blade, and then steps further into the room to make room for the others.
