Seras sidesteps what would have been a devastating swing, flicking it past her shins with a contemptuous wave of her blade before sliding the sharp tip back along the kobold's weapon.

    Riposte: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Unfortunately, the creature avoids that strike, and Seras begins backpedaling and giving ground, her sword weaving through the air in a network of complex feints and defensive swipes. XI winces from the initial slash from the cloaked warforged. While it struggles with the blinding illusion that Threll has afflected it with, he concentrates silently for just a moment, after which his mindblade lights up more brightly.

Keenly watching the chaos, Guardian lets the guards pass him. He's thankful that they only counter-attack the instigating warforged and don't (or at least don't seem to?) associate them as together.

After the guards flood the room and cause the kobolds to retreat, he takes a swipe at the apparent leader as they attempt to flow by.

No combat reflexes, so just the one AoO

As soon as he makes his swipe at the fleeing Kobolds he turns back to the hostile warforged, hoping to end his threat and make it clear to the guards which side he is on. This time he pauses to square himself and imbue his blade. Can't be too sure...

Seras flicks her offhand forward, launching her second coin with another crack like thunder.

"What part of surrender is so alien to you people? You are going to die, having accomplished nothing! Don't you realize the Lord of Blades is throwing you away in an attack he doesn't expect to work? Lay down your weapons!"

Seras' coin seems to fall on deaf ears, as the warforged falls over either dead or inert.

The guards still seem wary of the situation demand that you drop your weapons. After doing so, they two aim to aid their fallen friend, with some excited shouts they find he's alive if badly hurt.

It takes an hour for you to explain the situation. Lady Elaydren eventually has to reveal her identity and ask for some discretion before the guards are willing to let you leave. The house matron feeling responsible calls for a healer and artificer in this time to handle healing.

    You all topped up.

Throughout this ordeal Lady Elaydren has waved off any question and said quietly that once you leave the letters in the backpack will explain all.

The guards do eventually allow you to leave, and taking this chance you do so. Lady Elaydren's final words driving you on just a bit, "More of these assassins may show up at any moment, leave and remember "Its in the left pocket."" You quickly find an alley and delve into the backpack looking for the letter.

    In the Bag:
    OMG the bag is magic....

    Center Pocket

    • 80 Arrows
    • 80 bolts
    • 50 ft of Silk Rope
    • 3 Bedrolls
    • 3 Waterskins
    • 9 days of Trail Rations

    Right Pocket

    • 1 everbright lantern
    • 1 flint and steel
    • 1 healer's kit
    • 5 torches
    • 3 sacks

    Left Pocket

    • Letter from Lady Elaydren
    • 3 Vials of Holy Water
    • 2 Potions of Cure Light Wounds
    • 1 Potion of Repair Light Wounds
    • A tiny rod of blue metal, three inches in length, with a sapphire embedded at one end
    • 1 pouch containing 150 pp
    • 1 casket containing 500 gp
    • A letter of credit for House Orien and House Lyrander to cover passage to Rhukaan Draal, depending on which route the adventurers decide to take.

    The Letter:
    My Friends,
The object you recovered for me from the ruins beneath Shar is a schema, a piece of a pattern used to create items both mundane and magical. I have learned that another schema connected to this pattern was being studied in a secret Cannith workshop in Cyre call Whitehearth. I wonder if this research is tied to the Day of Mourning?

Parts of my own house seek this pattern for evil purposes and I do not know whom to trust. So I turn to you. I need you to travel to Cyre, find the workshop, and recover the second schema.

The location of the workshop was a closely guarded secret lost when the patriarch of House Cannith died in the destruction of Cyre. You must travel to the House Cannith outpost in the town of Rose Quarry, in Darguun, to recover a record of all of Cannith's hidden workshops.

In Rhukaan Draal, find a man named Failin in the Bloody Market. He can provide you with transport to Rose Quarry. From there, travel into the Mournland to find Whitehearth and the second schema. It is an adamantine plate in the shape of a diamond, about the size of a human's palm. Once you have retrieved it, return to Rhukann Draal, where I will meet you. Succeed and I will see to it that you are well rewarded for your courage. I have also informed the Hounds that I have retained your services again. Hoping to make your departure swifter.

    Lady E

    So what do you do?

Before they open the pack, Guardian spends a short period of time meditating silently, though he doesn't really give any indication that this is what he's doing. It looks more like a temporarily inert warforged with "glassy" eyes.

As they rifle through the bag's pockets it's obvious she has outfitted them generously for a more extended mission than the previous request.

He takes the letter from Seras next and reads it quickly as she gives her rundown of a route.

"Agreed, leave now or as soon as possible. Are there horses large enough to bear me?" Without waiting for the answer he refocuses on one line from it, and re-reads it softly aloud..."I wonder if this research is tied to the Day of Mourning?. I had this suspicion as well. I would love to get answers about it as it represents a great sadness for me, personally."

As the fight ends, Threll begins to calm himself. He take a moment to kick a kobold body out of the way as he rejoins the others.

After the guards question them and eventually give them clearance, Threll will take the time to inform the guards, "You should still have one of his comrades in custody of the guard. I would keep them far away from each other."

After reading the letter, he looks around at the destroyed common area and says "I would love to be off from here. Let us stop by the guild hall and gather some of our things."

Seras' investigation and looking at the provided letter of credit for House Lyrander and Orien offers you two routes to choose from.

House Lyrander has an elemental galleon (water) that can get you there in about 4 days. House Orien with the lightning rail to Sterngate and then joining up with a caravan through Marguul Pass will get you there in about 15 days.

Please seek us out in due coarse so we may get this little hiccup out of the way and we may embrace our new brother.

This included a sigil of the house that radiates a magic, very hard to duplicate that must act as a personal seal or symbol of authority.

The House Lyrandar galleon leaves from the ports at the base of the Sharn cliffs. It travels from the Hilt into the Straits of Shargon, staying close to the southern coast as it moves from Brelish to Zilargo waters and eventually turns north into Kraken Bay. From there, the elemental-powered vessek enters the Ghaal River for the final leg of the journey to Rhukaan Draal.

The half-elf crew operates the ship and tends to the passengers on board. In addition to you, a dozen traders, travelers, and diplomats are aboard for the trip. Many will disembark when the ship stops briefly in Korranberg, but a handful are scheduled to go all the way to the goblinoid nation's capital. Cargo and trade goods, however, occupy the bulk of space aboard the vessel.

Threll will take the moments before the ship sets sail to acquaint himself with the passengers of note. That done, he will be bored until the ship sets out.

One the first day, forced to intermingle by the size of their ship, Threll will try to gather information about the party's destined stop.
    Gather information: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

The second day, Threll's boredom overwhelms him and he decides to play a small prank. He uses Ghost Sound to lure passengers near the edge of the ship, then conjured the Silent Image of tentacles racing up over the starboard bow. He cackled maniacally at some of the scarred passengers.

He is soon discovered, I mean, he is cackling like a monkey and readily admits it and, given there was no actual harm, gets off with a day in the ship's holding.

After a night and day below deck, Threll's boredom reignites itself. He spends most of the third night drinking in the mess and inciting anyone he can to join him.
    Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

He spends the fourth day sleeping off the third night.

Your mingling in with those also on board is pleasant enough, but you find that after pleasantries are done they people seem to excuse themselves to mingle in the crowd. As you narrow down your discussions with those in the crowd and sailors that seem to be free you do find out a couple things about your destination.

    Rhukaan Draal:
The heart of Rhukaan Draal was once a frontier Cyran town; over the last two decades it has grown into a sprawling goblinoid metropolis.

The most impressive structure is the royal palace, called Khaar Mbar'ost (means blood-colored fortified dwelling) or Red House.

THe Ghaal'dar goblinoids are known for their skill in battle, not their artistry with crafts. As a result, the market of Rhukaan Draal is mainly a place to trade for imported goods.

The laws of the city are simple, and the hobgoblins take little interest in the history of their guests. As a result, many criminals flee to Rhukaan Draal to avoid justice, and smugglers can freely sell goods in the marketplace that would be in the wrong side of the law in Breland, or Thrane.

Yeah sorry Threll day two isn't what you think it is.

With Thrells boredom comes panic, and while the shipment on board quickly tell that its at most an illusion. The rest of the passengers are in a panic, causing disruption on the ship. As you are apprehended you are indeed thrown into a brig for several hours. No one else seems to be there except for a lone guard who ignores your attempts to talk. After a couple hours a striking half-elf woman with a large dragonmark on her left arm, continuing up until its lost under her shirt. Comes to "talk" to you.

Ok guys the rest of you have have a solid day, then day two some trouble happen, with Threll at the center. So give me day one actions, and your response to Threll incarceration.

On the ship, Guardian is quickly reminded that not all humanoids have warmed up to the warforged. He's not cast aside outright by the entire passenger population, but he notices small groups flowing to opposite sides of the deck to avoid him, clearing passageways below deck when he walks through, and other similar subtle behaviors. Thankfully, it's not the majority and he is able to strike up some smalltalk on deck to attempt to learn about their destination.

"Look, if he'd performed an actual damaging illusion, say to get somebody to go overboard, that would be one thing. What he's done is equivalent to some onboard entertainment. At her reply to the mark, Threll seems confused, and aghast, he replies, ”I will be clear on one thing: I meant no persuasion in revealing my mark. I simply saw yours on display, large as it is, and chose to extend the same courtesy of leaving mine unconcealed.”

Calming down slightly, he takes a breath and continues
”And I wouldn’t call it much of a disturbance what with the lack of any kind of lasting cost other than the enmity of my fellow passengers and yourself. For the pointless disruption I will apologize to you personally. But I will ask if there are any formal charges that will hold, given the lack of any damage?”

Giving XI a nod in recognizing he was there, she returns her attention to Threll.

"I will apologize about the mark, I've never met a mark that didn't try to throw their family around when in trouble. Mine is on display for 2 reasons. One, it makes controlling the ship easier and two sleeves can get a person hurt at the wrong time. If you look around all the crew are wearing short or no sleeve tunics."

At this point she pulls out several folded pieces of paper that she had tucked into her belt. "A disturbance was indeed what you caused, here I have several of the letters complaining of injuries sustained by other passengers as they tried to flee your illusion. Most are bruises and bruised egos. There is one woman who fell and now complains about pain in her leg. The ship doctor is dealing with her now."

She passes them over, and they do indeed have complaints of injuries incurred in the incident. They also call for reparations, some in shipping cost reductions others in return of fees paid.

"This doesn't even include the fact that several of my crew had to leave assigned duties to get weapons. The halting of the elemental, so a coarse correction could be made to potentially avoid more trouble. No sir, there are damages, and a personal apology is not going to be enough to cover what I now have to deal with."

However, within my party is a House Cannith crafter who would happily aid you for my release... well, perhaps happily isn't the right word but she will help."

XI is listening to the negotiations, clearly his reasoning about Threll's usefulness didn't immediately pan out, but he's coming back around to it himself. XI decides to chime in with an additional offer.

"If it helps, and you accept transfer of sentences, my considerable strength can be put to work until we reach our destination."

Seras looks up from fiddling with her watch, head cocked to the side as if hearing something before she dismisses the feeling as just a passing fancy and returns to messing with tiny gears.

Ooo Seras sensed a disturbance in the force!

The woman shakes her head, "Well for one that just manifested, your acting like one born and raised, willing to use companions to deal with your problems.... I find your honor....lacking."

She turns to XI at this point, "I apologize to you master forged for ignoring you but I needed to find out what type of man the captain was going to be dealing with."

At this point a man in the garb of House Lyrandar comes out of the shadows. "Thank you first mate, you may leave." The man seems younger, but that could be due to his mixed heritage. Brown hair tied back, reveal striking blue eyes that first glance at XI then land sternly on Threll.

The man soon glances over at a side table where Thrells personal possessions he had on him were being stored. He walks over to the items and picks up the identification papers, reading them over before tossing them back down.

"What house?" Are the only thing he says to you. His back to you as he continues looking at the items in front of him.

At the comment on his honor, Threll's draconian eyes thin to slits as anger wells. He refuses to allow it into his voice as he replies, but the diplomacy slips from his voice "I have killed for her, and she has killed for me. Outside our party I have no one else in the world to look to, so If I cannot ask it of her or Eleven here, I can ask it of no one... but I thank you for your opinion of my honor."

He cools at the new arrival, his curiosity overwhelming his frustration at the insult.
"If you mean the house my mark is tied with that would be Vadalis. The house is notified of my existence but beyond that I have not met with them. My claim to the house is as good as that piece of paper you see in my things."

The woman look at your response is a little dark, choosing not to respond continued to leave.

The man shakes his head before replying, "Yes that is a strong bond, but you did just throw an ally under the wagon by offering their service before even finding out if their capable in doing so. Knowing their skills and abilities is fine and all, but my first mate did only say the basics of the required skills."

Holding his hands up against any retort, "But that's neither here nor there, honor and perceived honor are in the eyes of the beholder. Moving past that, House Vadalis huh, a little bit disappointing but I can still find a use."

He digs into his pocket and pulls out two pocket watch like items the size of a coin. Tossing one over he continues, "This is a Marker, something an eccentric in House Dennith came up with. Not well known, but they have uses in this instance. They're something I use when I want to make sure a favor is going to be truly repaid. They bind a person to a called on favor.

So here's the deal, you bond with these two and I'll smooth things over with the House and passengers. Otherwise I turn you over to the House to deal with the fines and compensations, this also means being on the blacklist for all House Lyandar services."

    The Marker, Spellcraft DC 15:
This is an object that initiate a two step process to a geas spell. The first step is someone activates the items and this allows the mutual bonding of a geas spell. Once an agreed upon task is made, this completes the geas casting.

Think the marker from John Wick, this just adds a bit of magic to it.

    Spells:
1st-6/6|| Known: 0th DC 13 Light(3/day), Speak with Animals(1/day), Arcane Mark, Ghost Sound, Detect Magic, Read Magic, Prestidigitation, Flare, Jolt ||1st DC 14, Shocking Grasp, Burning Hands, Mage Armor, Silent Image

    Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Looking at the thing, a frown creases his face. ”...This type of thing usually would require to agree to a specific task. I doubt ‘whatever tha captain says’ is specific enough to be binding...”

His mind meanders off into the complexities of the spellwork before snapping back. Managing to muster some amount of professionalism from behind bars, Threll asks ”What’s the job?”
    Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

"I apologize, it seem I was miss understood, we treat these as tokens of favors. You bonding them is merely saying that you are willing to be called on in the future for two favors. Think of it as an imprint that only you can verify and it cannot be replicated, it also a way to keep track of favors your willing bind yourself to."

    Spells:
1st-6/6|| Known: 0th DC 13 Light(3/day), Speak with Animals(1/day), Arcane Mark, Ghost Sound, Detect Magic, Read Magic, Prestidigitation, Flare, Jolt ||1st DC 14, Shocking Grasp, Burning Hands, Mage Armor, Silent Image

Shrugging, Threll will bond with the two markers as he is bid. ”You scratch my back I’ll scratch yours, then. Deal. Know this, do not ask me to kill someone who does not deserve it, because pact or not there will be a consequence. Aside from that, you’ll have your favors.”
    Diplomacy to make this seem like a reasonable request and not a direct threat: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

"Excellent, now if you don't mind I'll ask you to return to your room. If you must leave, be careful, a few of the passengers aren't your biggest fan at the moment." With a nod of his head towards you and then XI he heads away, tossing one of the token like it was a coin in the air.

A sailor soon comes to release Threll, he doesn't look happen but does so without speaking a word or looking at Threll more then necessary.

Nice add to your post, but it doesn't change mine :P

Threll will completely ignore the captain’s advice and ascend to the deck. Rather than sit and wait for other passengers to come air grievances, Threll chooses to climb the mast and sit along the mainsail’s crossbeam
    Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Threll is stopped and informed that if he doesn't wish to return to the brig for again disturbing the crew, he shouldn't continue climbing the mast. He is reminded that hes a passenger and not crew, if he wishes to climb the ship, he should look for permission from the first mate or the captain.
