Tera Flinders
"If that's okay," Tera replies, "I need enough sleep to rest my mind otherwise I can't cast diddly."
I think we have our watches set up to where Tera takes the first, Sal the second and Kaede the third. Ready to move on when you guys are.
Kaede Mayumi
Fine with me.
DM Nate
sorry for the slow down... and sorry I didn't get this up like an hour ago (before Sal posted)
After a quiet evening and a simple dinner the marked settle in for a cool fall evening under the stars. Tera's watch is quiet but the temperature drops steadily throughout it. Sal's watch begins just as quietly but by the middle of it she finds herself beginning to shiver quite a bit (and wish they had a fire burning). Late in her shift the experienced woodswoman hears a rustling on the far side of the evergreens. There is no sign of a light source, and she can't tell what's making the noise, but it doesn't sound as though it's noticed them...
Salomae Amsel
Sal's ears immediately perk up at the rustling on the other side of the campsite, her other senses honed somewhat by the lack of light to see by.
No lights so it's either a critter or something else that can see fine in the dark. Better get a closer look; don't want a boar or something stumbling right into camp with everyone else sleeping.
She attempts to draw her dagger as quietly as possible and begins to creep towards the sound of the noises, eyes and ears straining to determine just what has stumbled across their camp.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
DM Nate
Sal quietly creeps up to the copse of fir trees. The light of the moon and stars lets her see a little bit in the clearing but as she moves into the trees the darkness swallows her and she can barely see her own hand in front of her. From somewhere deeper into the inky black night she hears quiet voices speaking... it sounds like goblinish...
Salomae Amsel
Great...more goblins. Better wake the others!
Realizing that she'd be foolish to try tangling with multiple goblins in the dark, Sal hastily scuttles back towards their camp to wake the others.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
1d4 ⇒ 3
The first bedroll she reaches happens to be Tera's and she tries to shake the young woman awake without making a terrible amount of noise.
"Tera? Tera! Wake up! There's more goblins lurking around the camp!" she hisses.
Tera Flinders
Tera, though fast asleep only a moment before, is able to hear the urgency in Sal's voice and carefully gets up.
"Goblins?! Great, now what do we do," Tera asks in a matching voice as she tries to gather her bow and arrows as quietly as she can even as her ears strain to hear any of the sneaky things approaching.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
DM Nate
DM Nate
anyone who wants to wake up is welcome to, but if you do then you need to roll stealth (mwahaha...)
Tera Flinders
Tera helps Sal wake the others, touching a finger to their lips to let them know to keep quiet.
"Goblins nearby, they don't know we're here," she whispers quietly before moving beside Sal and asking, "do we wait or hunt them?"
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Perception (Are they getting closer?): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Zache Kovachi
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
"Hnnh? Goblins?" Zache asks blearily, waking from deep sleep and yawning widely as he gathers his starknives. The leather of his armour creaks as he pulls himself to his feet.
Tera Flinders
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"Oh no," Tera whispers as she hears Zache's less than silent preparations.
DM Nate
I'll give Kaelaah and Kaede until tonight to post about waking up if they wish and then I'll move us along... everyone else can go ahead and wait to post anything else until then.
DM Nate
As Kaede and Kaelaah continue to sleep, a slightly louder voice can be made out in the darkness... "Токто! ... дарактардын артында бир ызы-чуу ошол болчу тынч айланасында көчүп бар ..."
**Initiative**
Kaede (asleep)
Kaelaah (asleep)
Salomae: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Tera: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Zache: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
threat 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
threat 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
misc: 2d20 ⇒ (14, 13) = 27
Suddenly everything falls unsettlingly quiet...
Tera, Sal, and Zache may act. It's really pretty dark even in that clearing, does anyone have low-light vision or darkvision? If you don't, there's going to be a 20% miss chance if/when you engage enemies (for dim light; it'll be 50% if you go into the trees without a light).
Tera Flinders
Tera freezes and thinks about the best course of action to take. After a moment, she finds a pebble from the forest floor.
"Get ready and protect your eyes, I'm going to provide some light when they get close. Wake Kaede and Kaelaah if you can." she whispers to the others.
Preparing a light spell on the pebble as soon as the goblins get within the range of its light.
Perception (Where are the little beasties?): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Salomae Amsel
Sal swiftly draws her rapier and wonders if she'd better get a torch lit, until she hears Tera's whispered plan.
"Right!" she whispers as she narrows her eyes and moves to shake the others awake.
_______
In combat terms, Sal basically delays until Tera acts. Then she'll switch her dagger for her rapier and then move in preparation of trying to wake either Kaede or Kaelaah on her next turn. Hope that makes sense!
DM Nate
You don't have to delay (we're using block initiative now). Also, I'll let you switch weapons and nudge someone to wake them (from natural sleep) in one round. Pick which one you want to wake (and they'll act in Group A next round).
Zache Kovachi
Feeling sheepish and ashamed, Zache quickly creeps over to Kaelaah and shakes him awake.
Tera Flinders
"They're circling around to the east, trying to sneak south," Tera whispers as she begins weaving her spell so she can cast it first when the time came.
DM Nate
From the south two arrows come whistling out of the darkness, one towards Sal and the other towards Tera...
arrow vs Sal (flat-footed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22, for: 1d4 ⇒ 2
arrow vs Tera (flat-footed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17, for: 1d4 ⇒ 3
everyone may act now. everyone is already awake; Zache, Kaede, and Kael are all still prone though. currently there is dim light throughout the clearing (where no enemies are visible), and total darkness in the trees. I have updated the crude map.
Tera Flinders
Tera bites back a cry of pain as one of the arrows opens up a gash in her arm. Deciding that lighting up the pebble was going to be a waste of time and expose them all, she instead holds out her hand and cast a spell to summon four glowing motes of light where the arrows had come from.
"仙女之光跳舞!" The words of power ring out in the clearing as four bright motes shine at the edge of the clearing, hopefully dazzling the goblins long enough for her and the others to get organized. She doesn't spare the idea much thought, her first priority was to grab her bow and find cover.
Standard to cast Dancing Lights.
Move to ready her bow and get behind some cover.
DM Nate
Tera's lights expose the goblin archers, both of whom are just inside the trees...
crude map has been updated accordingly; I marked the lights with red asterisks (I just picked good spots for them since you didn't say).
@Tera- you can gain (soft) cover by ducking behind an ally or by moving into the ferns... please let me know which (feel free to specify a grid space)
Tera Flinders
Moving to the ferns. Sorry about not specifying, I missed the map link. Tera moves to E4.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Salomae Amsel
Sal yelps with pain as an arrow grazes her arm but then Tera's lights flare into being, giving her sight and helping to even the odds a bit.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
"Watch it, they're trying to sneak around!" she suddenly cries out, stepping towards the trees and making a decisive stab with her rapier.
Attack (MW Rapier): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
______
Whoops, thought I'd already posted my turn last night. If at all possible, Sal steps towards wherever her target is and takes a swing at him; not sure where exactly that is on the map so please adjust her position as appropriate!
Kaede Mayumi
With a sudden start, Kaede jolts awake, similar in style to when Tera's nightmares woke her screaming. In an instant, the Tien priestess in on her feet, glaive in hand and at the ready.
Move action - stand from prone
Standard action - grab weapon
DM Nate
Sal stabs into the ferns next to her, eliciting a strange yelping sound...
You don't actually need to move, Sal
Zache Kovachi
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
"There's more of them?" Zache asks worriedly, scrambling to his feet and hurrying to assist Salomae.
Zache will stand from prone, and move to threaten the square that he saw Salomae stab.
DM Nate
just waiting on Kaelaah... if he hasn't posted by the time I'm ready go bed I'll bot him...
DM Nate
Still too groggy to full grasp the situation, Kaelaah stumbles to his feet and does his best to defend himself. full defensive action
The now-revealed archers drop their bows and rush forward, drawing large dogslicers as they move. One of them heads for Sal while the other rushes towards Tera as she flees nearly crashing into Kaelaah as he rises.
attack vs Sal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4, for: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
@Sal- that provokes an AoO from you...
attack vs Kael: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, for: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Suddenly in the bushes southwest of Sal two more goblins become visible. One of them was clearly the source of the noise that came in response to her attack; it tries to flee but collapse after twenty feet. The other one darts toward Kaede and swings at her.
attack vs Kaede: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22, for: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Kaede, you haven't entered spear dance style (yet) so this provokes an AoO.
Everyone may act again.
Tera Flinders
Tera swallows her fear and tells her racing heart to slow down before drawing a bead on the goblin attacking Kaelaah.
Attack (Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 1 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Kaelaah
Bleary-eyed and still only half conscious, Kaelaah shapes a weapon of pure flame... lighting up the area around him in an amber glow, he slashes downwards at the wretch who attacked him...
Kaelaah, Gather Power (free) then Kinetic Blade vs Goblin (touch): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 for 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9
Salomae Amsel
As one of the archers charges her and swings, Sal easily dodges its clumsy attack and responds with a decisive stab of her rapier at the goblin's belly.
AoO vs. Archer (MW Rapier): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
And with her original target bleeding out on the ground she turns her full focus to the new challenger, sizing him up before taking another jab.
Attack vs. Archer (MW Rapier; Studied Target): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
DM Nate
Tera and Kael both strike true and the archer-turned-swordgoblin next to the Shoanti collapses. Sal is less fortunate and misses both of her attacks.
Kael- I thought gather power was a move action? It wouldn't affect this round, I'm just trying to learn the class with you.
Kaede Mayumi
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Nate - You're right, Gather Power is a move action. (I'm fascinated with the class, to the point that my PFS -1 is a hydrokineticist.)
Without hestitation, Kaede drops a slash from above at the goblin that charged toward her.
AoO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
AoO damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Making the assumption that that's not enough to down the goblin...,
But with not enough force behind the blow, the little goblin gets under her guard and leaves a shallow cut along her abdomen. Kaede inhales with a hiss of pain before adjusting her grip on her glaive for a moment, before performing a flurry of whirling motion, using the blade to distract her attacker before clocking it along side its head with the pommel.
Swift action - activate Spear Dancing Style
Full attack
Blade strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Blade damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Pommel strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Pommel damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Crit damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Kaelaah
Kael- I thought gather power was a move action? It wouldn't affect this round, I'm just trying to learn the class with you.
Yep. you're right - I kinda made my post in a hurry when I realised how far behind the gameplay thread curve I had fallen... although I did check quickly that I could actually do the action
DM Nate
hmm... it looks like I missed a gameplay post somewhere too... sorry folks, I'm a mess. Map is updated, I'll give Zache some more time to finish off the last gobo
Kaede slashes the goblin that charged her on its way in. When she follows up with a close blade strike her grip is not fully corrected and she leaves herself open for a quick counterattack from the little green menace. Just after it swings, she lands a blow with the shaft of her glaive that sends the foul creature limply to the ground.
gobo AoO vs Kaede: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21, for: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Zache Kovachi
Zache nimbly steps to the side, pursuing the final goblin, and strikes out with both weapons. While the first cuts in a short, brutal arc, the other swings wide.
Main hand: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Off-hand: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
DM Nate
With an expert strike Zache dispatches the final goblin and a seemingly natural quiet returns to the forest...
sorry to have been gone for so long- please feel free to get back into character with some RP before you fall back asleep, and/or first thing in the morning. I'll be ready to move things forward in the next couple days.
Tera Flinders
As the fight ends, Tera holds still, arrow nocked and ready, as she strains her ears, listening for the calls and warcries of more goblins.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
After a few moments of silence, she sighs in relief and turns to see how everyone is holding up.
"Is anyone hurt," she asks as loudly as she dares.
Tera Flinders
After checking everyone, and finding that She, Sal, and Kaede were the only ones even injured, and with only minor cuts at that, Tera breathes a sigh of relief. She holds her holy symbol and says a brief prayer over both of them.
"Succor to those who would stand between civilization and savagery," she prays, golden light softly shining for a moment as their wounds are healed.
CLW Kaede: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW Salomae: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
That gets both of you up to full. :)
Before they head off, Sal back to keeping watch and Kaede back to sleep, she stops them.
"I didn't say I was done! Lemme clean up the mess the goblins left and fix the tears," she says before casting a few cantrips to clean up blood and mend the holes where goblin blade and arrow had slashed their clothes.
"There! All done! Are we going to do anything about the bodies," she asks.
Orin Telmar
3 people marked this as a favorite.
Orin wraps up a long, but uneventful, shift. Looking after quiet streets and quieter walls has given him a bit of a thirst.
He strolls into the Rusty Dragon and, taking his usual seat, orders a drink with just a nod. Looking around at the sparsly populated room, he thinks "I wonder what those young folk are up to right now, probably just as quiet out there...
Kaede Mayumi
Kaede takes a deep breath as Zache ends the last goblin, then cradles one of the wounds that she took from the ones that she was fighting.
"Yes, but nothing I couldn't have handled myself. Thank you though for dipping into your own blessings,"she whispers back to Tera, after her Abadaran deals with the problem, before she called on her own reserves.
"There? Are we going to do anything about the bodies," she asks.
That'll pause Kaede before she tries to sleep again. "That's a good question.... I don't know. Even as crazy as goblins are, it feels sacrilegious to just leave them out for scavengers. But I don't know if we have the time to dig proper graves, if we hope to save the town," Kaede offers unhelpfully.
Tera Flinders
"Well, I was more talking about getting them away from where we're sleeping so those scavengers won't try making a meal of those of us sleeping," Tera replies, "and as far as graves go, we could always make a pyre for them before we leave. We just need to make sure that it won't set the whole Nettlewood alight."
She gives a shrug then winces as it aggravates the wound on her arm just below the shoulder.
"Ow!"
