Round Four, continued...

Parity steps through the melee, moving between Malnival and Heng, slashing Suishen in a sweeping arc, cutting down both remaining zombies in quick succession; a third strike misses the crawling hand.

As Goti moves, Maeve stands ready to keep step with the sorcerer.

Heng continues his rapid attacks, landing another crushing blow against the hand.

Round Five

A moment later, Malnival steps up and slices off two fingers and the thumb. Oozing necrotic fluids, the hand slumps to the floor.

Seeing his animated hand drop, Goti calls an order to his bodyguard "Take her!" The ninja immediately turns, closing on Maeve and attacking with a knifed palm to a nerve cluster. Maeve's world goes fuzzy as her muscle control momentarily stops.

Goti chuckles as he runs past her, down the stairs and around the bend.

Round Five, continued...

With the undead down, Heng and Parity rush forward, Harlan on their heels. Parity sprints past Maeve and the ninja, who clips him with a fleeting strike as he runs by. Heng is there a moment later, clobbering the foe with a powerful punch.

Ahead of him and down the flight of stairs, Parity hears a set of doors slam shut.

Round Six

Malnival rushes in beside Heng, slashing low at the ninja and laying open a telling wound along the man's thigh. The ninja lets out a hiss of pain, spinning to attack Malnival with a quick combination of kicks. Off-balance from the wound, the ninja's aim is poor and Malnival easily evades them.

At Harlan's turn. Maeve is no longer stunned. Actions for R6/7?

Round Six, continued...

Harlan calls on a healing burst to aid the group, while Parity rushes down the stairs, taking two at a time, and calling out for help. Maeve comes to and immediately returns to the fray, slamming the ninja in the back of the skull, dropping him to the floor like a sack of bricks.

Heng springs past the ninja's body, rounding the corner and chasing Parity down the steps. Summoning a powerful charge with his ring, Heng blasts the ornate double-doors there from their hinges, exposing the great chamber beyond.

Standing in alcoves on each side of the doors are bronze statues depicting warriors dressed in the ornate garb and armor of distant Tian Xia. Beneath their broad helmets, the statues wear demonic face masks with snarling fanged maws, while their hands clutch gracefully curved swords in poses of battle.

Beyond the doors, the interior of the chamber has been transformed into a multilevel architectural wonder. The chamber is divided into two tiers, the upper tier lying twenty feet above the lower tier, and rotated fourty-five degrees. The peak of the cieling rises to a pyramid sixty feet above the floor. The diagonal orientation of the upper tier forms four ledges, twenty feet up. A fountain issues from the southernmost of these ledges, pouring in a waterfall to a decorative pool containing several ruby-hued koi. Black-laquered folding screens have been set at various places about the room, creating a veritable maze of panels.

Goti is nowhere in sight, but...

You can hear the sound of spellcasting from the southeast corner.

Round Seven

Malnival runs up to join the chase. As he steps across the threshold, Goti's voice echoes through the chamber in a single, held arcane syllable. At that instant, a gaping, extradimensional pit appears beneath the doorway.

Red square on the map. Parity and Malnival need to pass a DC 16 Reflex save or fall into the pit. Heng as well, but at DC 14. The pit is 20 feet deep. Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8

Rounds 7/8

Maeve shoots forward, beginning her battle-dance, only to find the pit. She backs up, then takes a running leap over the pit while the others scramble to find a way out, murmuring the words to a spell that seems to cause the magic around her to intensify.

Round 7 actions: Begin Janni Style, Begin Bardic Performance, then move into position to take a running jump over the pit.

Round 8: Make that running jump, Arcane Strike in case of AoO, and use Moment of Greatness. For the record, one time in the next 10 rounds, everyone can double any morale bonus (Like the one from Inspire Courage) before you make the roll.

Acrobatics to make the jump: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22

EDIT: Actually, I'm going to reverse casting Moment of Greatness and starting Inspire: It seems unlikely that anyone's going to be in combat range before Round 8 starts.

Round Seven, continued..

Heng hops a few steps back, avoiding the pit, and Malnival keeps his momementum forward, leaping clear. Parity, caught off-step, is not so lucky, and plummets to a crunching landing. After he gets to his feet, Parity tries to find a way up, but the rough walls have few handholds.

Harlan runs limping along as fast as he can to catch up. Maeve moves to the pit before taking a few paces back and beginning a battle dance. Heng vaults across the pit easily, sliding past Malnival and into the maze of screens. Back and forth Heng weaves before finding Goti behind a screen nook. (Double-move for Heng)

Round Eight

Goti adopts a defensive posture, chanting magic while pointing a finger. Heng's mind is shocked by sudden fears of the half-troll.

For Heng, Will DC 17 or become frightened; successful save, you are shaken for 1 round.

For Parity, Climb DC 25 to escape the pit.

"Harlan! He's getting away! I ... Wait ...." Parity pauses as something dawns in him.

you could've said something instead if letting me panic... You mentioned an airwalk? Let's do it.


Round Eight

Seeing Heng resist his magic, Goti snarls and backs a step away. Malnival homes in on the sounds, jinking through the screens to find the sorcerer.

Harlan moves up to the edge of the pit, careful around the sloped edges, while responding to Parity's call for help. A few seconds later, Parity rises up from the pit floor, Suishen held forth, stepping on empty air as if there were stairs. With a running leap, Maeve clears the pit and enters the screen maze, following Mal and Heng after Goti.

Heng closes in on the sorcerer, grabbing him forcefully by the arm. "Curse you, foul orc blood!" Goti wrenches free enough to cast a quick spell, hitting him again with the fear effect, and Malnival as well.

Same Will save as previously, but for both Heng and Malnival. Actions for R9?

Parity is halfway up.

I considered that, but isn't airwalk half speed?

I'm pretty sure the half-speed is in regards to the climb/descent portion...

Alright, with that then, Parity will climb 15 feet up (which I believe puts him 10 feet above the ground?) and then beeline 30 feet over to the fight


Round Nine

Overcome by the spell, Malnival shuffles away from the half-troll in wide-eyed horror.

Harlan loads and fires his crossbow towards the melee, trying to line the shot through the gaps in the screens. The shot is not far wide, but enough to drive a bolt through three screens and into the wall.

Maeve casts a quickening spell, passes Malnival fleeing and circles around the screen to attack Goti from the other side. Parity, continuing to use Suishen's magic, steps into the air above the pit and walks across the room above the screen maze.

Heng shakes off the fear spell again and leans in to tighten his hold on Goti, but overcommits his momentum. With a bark of mocking laughter, Goti uses his own prodigious strength and breaks the grapple. The half-troll makes a turning step, moving away from Maeve while bringing his heavy pick around and driving the weapon deep into Heng's side. "Die, fool!" Goti spits as Heng falls.

Round Ten

Malnival turns around another screen, coming to the edge of the summoned pit before his senses return. Still wary and shaken, he hurries back from the sloping edges of the pit. Across the way, Harlan picks up a loping gait and makes a dramatic leap, clearing the pit and landing with a few feet to spare!

In the melee, Maeve unleashes a furious barrage of punches and high kicks on Goti, landing a couple telling blows. "You again?" Goti sneers, brandishing his bloodied pick. Parity steps down through the air to enter the fight, swinging Suishen but not breaking through the sorcerer's armor. On the floor nearby, Heng bleeds.

Goti swings his pick at Maeve, from which she dodges away. Not looking back, Goti kicks out a leg and knocks over the screen behind him.

Malnival can take actions normally, though he is considered shaken for 3 more rounds.

Round Eleven

Malnival reverses his course and rushes back to the fray, coming up beside Parity and getting an effective cut through the half-troll's defense. Harlan, a few steps behind, skirts the pool and calls on a healing burst for the group, resuscitating Heng.

Maeve pummels Goti with a combo of bruising punches, and Parity moves to bracket the sorcerer, cutting him deeply across the back with Suishen. Finally, overcome by multiple wounds and seeing Heng coming back into the fight, Goti backs to the wall and raises an open palm.

"I yield!" he cries, his face twisted, bitter from defeat.

Maeve blinks rapidly in surprise, finding the surrender a little sudden.
