Oops, forgot the scouts were no longer batting last, so Jax gets a turn now too! Frost will continue to rest.
| DM Khel |
Jax strikes the sahuagin brute, and it bleeds for the first time since the fight started! It surges closer to him and returns the favor!

Molos hated the idea of using all his magic, but he hated the idea of dying much more. He cast his final magic missile of the day.

Warden Jax

The normal jovial Jax is visibly not happy when he gains the brute's attention and is struck twice. He focuses his attention on defense. Total Defense and switching Judgement to Healing. At 6/26 HP.
Kala Thelas

Now that she has more movement to angle her spell so as to speak, Kala concentrates and wills color out of her hands!
A gushing spray of warbling colors fly out of hands to engulf the creature!
Casts color spray. Will hit Frost and the Sahuagin.
Will Save VS DC 14
A vivid cone of clashing colors springs forth from your hand, causing creatures to become stunned, perhaps also blinded, and possibly knocking them unconscious. Each creature within the cone is affected according to its HD.
2 HD or less: The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. (Only living creatures are knocked unconscious.)
3 or 4 HD: The creature is blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, then stunned for 1 round.
5 or more HD: The creature is stunned for 1 round.
Sightless creatures are not affected by color spray.

Molos’ bolts of force puncture the sahuagin’s scaly hide! Seijiro misses his target, as Jax shields and heals himself. The sorceress attempts to disable the foe with a Kala spray (see what I did there?), but the brute shrugs it off!

The sahuagin is unmoved by Seijiro's words, and unharmed by the attempted poke. Molos' ice missile, however, elicits a grunt of pain as it stabs into the brute's shoulder! The sahuagin's teeth clench in rage, but it is clearly badly hurt!

Attack with Flank. Underwater -2
1d20 + 3 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 - 2 = 171d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Kala steps in to flank the creature and jabs hard with the staff in her hands, hoping to find a tender spot.
| DM Khel |
Kala swims closer and thwacks the sahuagin with her staff, but the water makes her blow much less effective. Bludgeoning weapons do half damage underwater.
The sahuagin, surrounded and suffering many injuries, fights on! Finding Jax a difficult target, he turns on the one who just thwacked him, stabbing and biting at Kala!

Seijiro tries to stab the brute hopefully for the last needed time.

Kala - thanks for the reminder on the AC, and for updating it in your stat line. I got myself a bit mixed up on the attacks, and have updated my post. Kala is at 2 hp, as you say, and Seijiro was not attacked and can have those hp back.
Seijiro continues to struggle to connect his blade with the fish-man's skin!
| DM Khel |
As Jax moves away, his head down and his blade up, the sahuagin stabs fiercely with his harpoon!
AoO Harpoon vs Jax, Rage: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 2 = 16
Jax - Not sure where that leaves you in terms of hp, with your Judgment of Healing active, but I don't think it's good.
Molos, Oddler and Kala are up!
Kala Thelas

Man that thing hits hard!
Fort Save vs DC 14
on save half of 1d6 ⇒ 1
2 of the party down adn it doesn' look good for us.
You unleash a powerful scream, inaudible to all but a single target. The target is dazed for 1 round and takes 1d6 points of sonic damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d6). A successful save negates the daze effect and halves the damage.
Badly hurt, Kala steps back and unleashes scream at extremely high frequency targetting the Sahuagin!
| DM Khel |
Kala - I don't mean to be difficult, but without a swim speed, you can't take a 5-foot step. Do you have a swim speed at the moment? If you don't, you can choose to do something other than cast the spell, or to cast defensively, or make a check to avoid an AoO when you move away - that would normally be an acrobatics check, but I think a Swim check would be more appropriate in this case. On top of all that, you're not standing on anything, as the blue on the map represents open water - so you need to make a Swim check to not be off-balance, per the underwater combat rules. Sorry to heap it on, but underwater combat can be rough.
I'll make a Fort save, just in case:
Fort: 1d20 ⇒ 20 Hmm. Something is happening with my dice in this game, and the opposite seems to be happening with the players' dice.
Molos Voren

Is it still in melee, or has it knocked down everyone melee'ing with it? I'm going to post as if it is still in melee, but if not, please add +4 to my roll.
Molos uses another point from his arcane reservoir to throw an ice missile at the sea creature.
RTA into melee 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 4 = 17

Still in melee, but you hit anyway! And since Molos acts before Kala in initiative, my questions about her spell and movement are moot - and she can keep the spell.
Molos' little spear of ice strikes the sahuagin in a soft spot under his chin! He goes limp and drifts to the bottom, his blood swirling in the water above him like a wisp of smoke in a breeze.
Combat over, and none too soon! I was afraid at several points that I was going to kill one of you.
Oddler Oddrik

Oddler moves to provide a flank for Seijiro and hopes Jax provides enough cover for her to be able to successfully cast a curse upon this brute.

I was pretty sure you'll have killed us. Damm it that was rough!
I have a wand of Infernal Healing (31 charges), though i can use a wand of Cure Light Wounds.
I use two charges on myself.
Anyone else needs it just holler.
Kala heaves a sigh of relief as that beautifully casted spear ends their foe. Taking out a wand and notcing how much more battered it looks like, begins to use it.

I assume you all will heal up in various ways, just include that info in your next post as we move along.
Seijiro makes certain that the fierce sahuagin warrior is not just mostly dead, as Oddler searches the bodies. Along with their combat gear, the defeated sahuagin have maps marking various places around Vialesk’s Glass Pit, the city’s massive central forge. In addition, they carry a number of hollow metal bars which, when bumped against each other in the search, make a clanging sound.
Gear found: +1 elf bane bolts (6), +2 human bane bolts (5), potion of cure light wounds, potion of cure moderate wounds (2), potion of air breathing (2), cloak of resistance +1, feather token (anchor) and a masterwork harpoon covered in the blood of several party members.
Warden Jax
|
2d8 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6 I need to bum 2 charges off Kala and I can heal myself the rest of the way.
6d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5, 5, 1, 5) + 6 = 24
After Jax is done healing, he takes some interest in the metal bars. "These are far out man. What are they using them for though?"
| DM Khel |
Okay, you've got some clangy metal bars, a map with locations marked around the Glass Pit, and still one person to visit on the list originally provided to you. Where will your investigation take you next? For reference sake, you have been at this for 8 hours since you arrived in Vialesk, and the trip back to the city will take you an hour.
~Frost~

Yeah might rest up first, I suspect we're now a little short of healing resources after that
Kala Thelas

Wow, lol. Elf bane and Human Bane. Someone hates half elves.
City time! We need to interview one more person!

5 charges,
| DM Khel |
Once everyone is patched up – and Seijiro has checked a couple more times to be sure the sahuagin brute is really, really dead – the party makes their way to the workshop of Yuka Kannamen, the selkie engineer and alchemist who provided the submersibles for Zahra’s troubled mission. Yuka, a handsome dark-skinned man, greets the party on arrival. He wears goggles, gloves, and a thick eelskin jacket lined with many pockets. ”Hello, hello, how can I help you?” he asks with a charming smile.
New map is up, but not because I’m expecting a fight. I just like the map.
~Frost~
|
Nice map!
"Fine day, just admiring your submersibles - such interesting machines. Zahra suggested we come have a look" Frost watches the mans face...
| DM Khel |
”It is a fine day, my friend, a fine day indeed,” Yuka replies to Frost. ”Interested in submersibles are you? I’ve got some fine machines, please, come take a look.” Laying a hand on the side of one machine, stroking it along one of the steering fins, he says, ”I’ve got some nice ones available to rent, if you have the need. I could let you rent one for 50 gold.” Moving to another machine, he continues, "Zahra recommended me, did she? That's nice to hear, after what happened on her expedition."
~Frost~
|
"Seems a fair price for benefits they offer" the Paladin remarks whilst staring at the marvellous contraptions "The expedition didn't go so well, but she didn't say the submersibles were at fault - what did you hear?"
Seijiro Saketa

know engineering: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (20) + 7 + (3) = 30
Seijiro seems fascinated with the submersibles... and examines each one in detail... "THese are so ... so... oh my, I don't even know how to describe them... rent one??? Oh yes, I'd like that a LOT... " But when Frost speaks up, he's reminded of their mission and adds "Perhaps later.. I'll come back... I'd LOVE to ride in one!"
