Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 21 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 21 + 2 + (4) = 37

Sorry, missed the cross-post earlier.

Aesocar was the Azlanti god of healing and human health. Even though Aesocar had a focused interest in humanity, his clergy provided healing to all in need, and during Azlanti times his clerics made great strides in curing and eradicating some of humankind’s most troublesome maladies. They worked most of their wonders with divine magic, but the church was also a scholarly institution that trained lay priests how to diagnose illnesses, create medicines, and perform surgeries. The church of Aesocar was the first to perfect the use of prosthetics, and after working in sync with engineers from Amaznen’s faithful, the two groups created clockwork prosthetics that changed the quality of life for thousands of Azlanti.

Aesocar's holy symbol was an enclosed six-pointed star.

Got it. I have a couple of ideas.

Simon eyes the guardians warily, and nods as a few experiments unfold in his mind. But, he shakes his head and turns to Ema.

"I very much want to learn more about this temple, especially if the invading forces are avoiding it.

However, I think the exploration can wait until after we have deal with the more pressing threat to the island. Time is not our friend, and we shouldn't expend resources here while there is a battle going on.

Let's skirt by the temple and continue our mission. When we come back, there may be some ways to bypass the guardians' programming."

"Sounds like a plan. Didn't want to tangle with those things yet anyhow."

You continue with your mission, employing the same stealthy tactics to move unseen across the waterways of the peninsula to disable the third of the mesh repeaters. From there, you make your way towards Doctor Hacksaw's fleshwarping laboratory. If there are any other preparations you want to make before confronting them, now is the time to do so.

With no preparations to be made, you stride confidently into the laboratory. A stone slab rests in the center of this circular room. The remains of a tortured humanoid body rest on the slab, mutilated almost beyond recognition. Arms and legs have been sawn off and replaced with inexplicable organic appendages. One arm now ends in a clawlike pincer, while a severed leg ends in a tumor-laden mass of meat.

The only light in the room comes from the lure above the head of a broad-shouldered, fishlike humanoid. A long, lashing tentacle protrudes from beneath the creature's armored coat. Doctor Hacksaw snarls angrily and raises a battleaxe!

On the ceiling above, four raylike creatures unfurl their bodies, opening toothy maws and leering with red eyes!

Ema saw the "Good Doctor Hacksaw" and knew she would never let him work on her. He suddenly vanished after drinking something and she knew what that meant, the bastard was likely invisible. As her ears throbbed from the sudden screech of the things above them Ema cast a spell to let her see invisible things as she looked for the doctor's position.

I cast see invis on myself and look for where the doctor is. If I see him I will point towards his square and yell out the position in six words or less.

Ema is able to point out the doctor's location, only a few feet away from where he disappeared.

Simon identifies them as cloakers, mysterious and paranoid aberrations that normally dwell deep in the Darklands. They can manipulate shadows around them to make themselves difficult to hit, and their infrasonic moans can induce fear, nausea, or stupor in their prey. They are famous for being able to wrap their bodies around their victims to engulf them, biting them while using their whiplike tails to attack other opponents.

They have no particular weaknesses or vulnerabilities. These individuals have been fleshwarped to give them additional abilities, including a chitinous carapace and venomous fangs!

Valentin gives Terana the gift of true seeing, allowing her to pierce the shadows and see the cloakers' true locations. She slices with her glaive, cutting down one of the monsters! Victrix lands a good hit on one of the other aberrations.

Meanwhile, Ema uses her divination to pinpoint Doctor Hacksaw's location. Simon moves in, stabbing the fleshwarper with his spear.

Hacksaw is a monstrous humanoid, not an aberration.

Hacksaw bellows with rage, swinging their battleaxe at Simon. His defenses hold against the invisible axe, though Hacksaw's tentacle does slam into him.

Simon is able to finish off Doctor Hacksaw with several powerful spear thrusts. Terana and Victrix turn to the remaining cloakers, and soon enough, they fall as well!

Doctor Hacksaw has: +2 fire resistance armored coat, +1 vicious battleaxe, belt of physical might +2 (Dex, Con). A total of 2,200 gp worth of masterwork quality torture equipment lines the shelves here. Along with these torture implements is a bloodstained amulet of proof against petrification.

With the algollthu forces still in disarray, you quickly make your way to the remaining mesh repeaters, disrupting their functioning with the same tactics as you used for the previous ones. From there, you move to take out the enemy's troop transports.

Arrayed along the beach is a series of ten colossal shelled constructs loosely resembling lobsters. Ramps open from the bellies of these war machines, held in place with tightened ropelike sinew. Other great shells, resembling those of giant snails, loosely line the interior of the beach, each containing circular openings sized for a human.

Four groups of ulat-kini troops, along with three gillmen agents, guard the vehicles in this area, diligently patrolling for intruders.
