Yes Greymore is planning to join, I sent the link; so hopefully he'll be along shortly.
Veres Sol |
Hi everyone! Greymore here. I will be playing my bard Veres if that is alright. Still need to fully update her character sheet after leveling to 3.

Perfect! Welcome to the party!

Seriously, I would think that in a world where skeletons, zombies, ghouls, and worse are real and common threats, burying the dead is just asking for trouble.

A couple favorite solutions of mine from undead-happy settings.
Bury them facing down.
Stone coffins.
Hiring an expert swordswoman to sit vigil over your loved one's body until they inevitably revivify for the purposes of immediate beheading.
Garduk the Unteachable |
@Chaosorbit - with respect to Heightened Awareness, I forgot to add that Garduk will take the option to take +4 bonus to his initiative and burn any remaining duration of the spell if we get into combat while the spell is active.
EDIT - I have added it into Garduk’s statblock.
Brayne |
I'm a bit nervous about these robots!
Attack roll 18 doesn't hit, hardness 10, and they hit really really hard!
Since by hp is supplemented by rage, might have to retreat action next round or I might risk death.
Not sure what garduk plans for action, but my preference is to misfortune my current target if applicable, else misfortune of the greased weapon would seem appropriate.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Veres Sol |
Adamantine is costly at this level. Worth it with things like this to contend with of course, but costly.
As Brayne says, this is a really tough fight. I have no way to do the kind of damage needed to be effective unless I crit, so can grease again on my next turn to try and drop one to the ground or disarm it, or heal, and I think a heal will be needed.
We will see how things progress after Garduk acts.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
A flanking partner would let me toss in the extra d6 on each swing from sneak attacks, but I'm not sure Garduk has any summons that can themselves breach hardness 10...
Garduk the Unteachable |
I don't think so. Marty the Mud Elemental has a fancy schmancy "entrap" attack that might be useful, but he still has to hit with his ordinary slam attack, and the robot's immunity to anything that requires a Fortitude save may mean it wouldn't work anyway. Garduk can certainly summon a flanking buddy for you, but it probably won't accomplish anything on its own.
UNLESS - Garduk could summon Larry the Lightning Elemental. Neither Veres nor I asked about vulnerabilities - I don't suppose the robot might be vulnerable to an overload?
I was also thinking Garduk might run over to the doors in the corner where he cast grease and try to get the robot to chase him through the slippery patch. But it could also just avoid it and corner him. Veres, if you can get over there and expand the patch, that might be more likely to work.
Garduk could try casting Snowball - touch AC probably isn't that bad, so even with the -4 penalty for shooting into melee, with Veres's song he would have a decent chance to hit, and would do 3d6 damage, which might possibly barely get past the hardness.
One more level and I'd have taken Create Pit, darn it.
Also - BRAYNE! You could have told Garduk you weren't wearing your armor! He would absolutely have given you a shot from his wand - that's what the darn thing is for.
Brayne |
Didn't really consider fortifying AC through magic before, but thanks! Will have to remember it for future.
A flanking buddy might still be useful in a sense of that extra d6 dmg.
Other than that, grease is pretty useful that they might fall or lose that weapon! Big dmgs coming from their weapons.
Garduk the Unteachable |
All right, I’m convinced - best use of this round is getting Kulga a flanking buddy, even if it can’t do any damage itself. I’d try the lightning elemental, but I’m worried it would just end up recharging the things, and we may need the higher level summons later. So Piotr it is - at least he’s a bag of HP, and has electricity resistance 5. He could conceivably last more than one round. Kulga will need to 5-foot step to get into flanking position - the statue is in the way.
I’ll get the post up in about an hour.
Chaosorbit |
Since Garduk acts before Kulga, will let Kulga decide if she wants to take a 5' step (after the summons) and get the extra d6; she can go ahead and post if she does...keeping the other rolls.
Garduk the Unteachable |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Next time, I'm going to post Piotr's rolls as 1d20 + 20 - 20. It will have the same result as +1 -1, but maybe it will cause both rolls to be natural 20s.
Brayne |
I'm going to have to retreat most likely this round, with my rage stopped, will likely not be able to contribute to dmg.
I'm hoping kulga takes down the golem hard soon so at least it's only one to worry about. I'll come back in with my cure wand just feeding Kulga to keep her up as she keeps hitting the creature.
But if the creature doesn't go down fast, we may have to consider full withdrawal for now.
Still can't get over hardness w/10!!!!
Chaosorbit |
Hey Gang, I'm holidaying today will get an update up later tonight or tomorrow. Merry Christmas to you all!
Garduk the Unteachable |
Same - merry Christmas those who celebrate, and a happy day to those who don’t!
@Chaosorbit - I don’t suppose that the robot’s little self-repair trick would have made it vulnerable to an attack of opportunity, would it?
Garduk the Unteachable |
For Christmas this year, a high school buddy sent me all of my old AD&D books! You can tell which books I used and which ones I looked at once after I got them and then left on the shelf.
I had long since forgotten what I did with these books. Apparently, 25-30 years ago I gave them to the younger brother of his then-girlfriend (now his wife), who hung onto to them all this time. I suspect he didn’t use them much - all of that wear and tear, including the masking tape, was how they looked when I gave them up.
Chaosorbit |
That’s amazing! I still have my old Players Handbook and Deities and Demigods; have long since lost or sold my DM Guide and MM, honestly don’t know what happened to them. Really cool present to get.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
That's awesome! Clearly some well loved books in there.
Veres Sol |
I still have mine, but they are packed in my garage at the moment. My kids play 5E right now because they loved the stories of my all AD&D days. Getting your books back was one heck of a Christmas present. I am thrilled for you!
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Holding off on posting for a bit to see if anyone's planning on being a flanking buddy.

Brayne, how do you feel about friendly fire? In particular, area of effect fire damage?
Veres Sol |
This weekend I am traveling and I expect to be pretty busy. It's a last minute trip about buying a new house. I will be able to post, but infrequently until the evenings.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Who ended up with the shocking arrows and the ray gun? Garduk wouldn’t have - he isn’t proficient with a bow or a pistol.
Veres Sol |
I am going to be very embarrassed here, but I completely forgot about those. I will bet I took them...let me just look in my pack... yep... I have shock arrows sitting right there.
I will be moving away in shame... I mean moving away to get some distance and shooting on my next turn. We also have a gun.

Quick Edit - almost forgot!
Before they depart they add. Oh did Nigel tell you about the secret cache of emergency supplies in the statue of Aroden?
You go and check and although it very hard to find, you eventually do. Within are a healer’s kit, three doses of bloodblock, two doses of antitoxin, two doses of antiplague, a potion of cure moderate wounds, and a wand of remove disease (14 charges)
These maybe handy too. I also re-read when the men were talking about the hazard crate from Numeria being opened and the silver goo getting free. If it isn't broken, and just open, we might be able to "put the genie back in the bottle" so to speak. We would need to run away, luring it after us. Then maybe use the wand of remove disease to make sure any remnants of it are cleansed from the boy, and possibly us.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Brilliant!
Garduk the Unteachable |
For the record, I (Jared, the player) would not personally choose to summon a living creature from the Great Beyond only to use it as bait for a horrific swarm of extra-terrestrial nanobots. I'm pretty sure Garduk doesn't have quite so many reservations about the tactic, though.
Also, we should remember to use that wand of remove disease to cure Brayne's tumors before the end of the scenario if we can.
Chaosorbit |
Won’t be the first time imaginary living creatures were summoned for bait. Definitely won’t think ill of you.
Was going to try to fast forward ahead in the action, but as the goo has the same speed as Kulga. Wanted to see what strategy you guys had to give her an advantage as you head to the first floor, that should work fine.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Is the goo flying? If not, Lenny should be able to get over it and provide some blocking for us, too.
Veres Sol |
She could toss us a rope, then one of us could grease her feet and we could see how well a dwarf can ski?
<ducks thrown weapon>
Of course I’m kidding...unless I’m not. ;)
Garduk the Unteachable |
I don’t even want to think about the Acrobatics DC required to make Grease act like low-grade Haste.
