Hjorleaf does not flinch from the impact of the stone, he continues to move through the deep snow. The low growl that comes forth shows that the stone did hurt him none the less.
Enough of this s*++. Time to pin the ax on the annoying flying creature thing.

When he gets close enough he swings the ax across from left to right and just before the ax gets close to the creature, a growl explode from his lungs. Twisting his hips and snapping his wrists as the blow comes around, Hjorleaf puts more of his strength behind the attack.

Easlis babble something at Porablum. She doesn't understand what he's saying, and she realizes that he probably couldn't understand here. Oh, darnit. Why did Desna make me talk in this strange language when she gave me my gifts?

Porablum slogs further through the snow to try and see what was attacking them.

She finds herself next to Grimgisli, and she asks him,

Celestial:

"What's attacking us?"

Double move action next to Grimgisli. I am 25 feet from the Atomie, per the map, and so it has total concealment from me if the snowy wind conditions still apply.

Shifting slightly and trudging through the snow, Hjorleaf keeps his large ax in one hand as he reaches back for another throwing ax. Pulling forth his last range weapon, he looks up at the creature that is using its wings to remain out of reach of his weapon.
Nodding up towards his enemy...
fine...you want to play...lets play Kubb
Combat Maneuver: Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
This is an odd one and I am not sure it will work or not. I would provoke an AoO as I do not have Improved trip. I want to use my throwing ax to trip him by hitting his wing. I am not sure if that is possible or not but I thought it was worth a try. Per the Rules compendium, this is an old post mind you circa 2012

Tripping a Flying Defender:

You can try to trip an opponent as an unarmed melee attack. You can trip an opponent only if it is up to one size category larger than you. You can’t trip a burrowing creature, an incorporeal creature, a swimming creature, or a creature that doesn’t rely on limbs for locomotion.
...
A winged creature can be tripped, and if it is, it falls as if it didn’t maintain its minimum forward speed. See Fly, page 92.

But per this rule and the trip rule I can only use a melee attack during a trip attempt.

Trip:
You can attempt to trip your opponent in place of a melee attack. You can only trip an opponent who is no more than one size category larger than you. If you do not have the Improved Trip feat, or a similar ability, initiating a trip provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver.

If your attack exceeds the target’s CMD, the target is knocked prone. If your attack fails by 10 or more, you are knocked prone instead. If the target has more than two legs, add +2 to the DC of the combat maneuver attack roll for each additional leg it has. Some creatures—such as oozes, creatures without legs, and flying creatures—cannot be tripped.

If not then I will just hit it with the throwing ax. I would only hit AC 18
Damage in place of a trip attempt.: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Male Ulfen Human Ranger (Woodland Skirmisher) 2; HP24/24; AC17 T14 F13 CMD17; F+4 R+7 W+2; Perception+8+

If it flew out of reach of your axe, then it can't reach you for an AoO, so provoking shouldn't matter. But under the more updated version of the rules, what you are trying to do would be a Reposition attempt. I've said it before and I'll say it again, all the "neat tricks" they add as additional feats just WEAKEN fighters, as each and every trick they know gets more and more narrowly applicable.

Grimgisli ignores the babbling of the gnome and moves up, trying to maintain a line of sight to the target.

Double move.

RoW maps

I don't believe a throwing axe could be used to trip at range. some weapons have the Trip tag to them, which allows them to be used to make a trip attempt, though there are very few that can do it from a distance. the roll was enough to hit the creature though, but needs a concealment roll

Hjorleaf's axe hits the atomie, making it yelp in pain.

Brominate:

"You might still have the Alchemist's fire I gave you, but why on earth would you want to light a fire now?"

Easlis yelled in Grim's approximate direction, unsure of what to do next. One thing he knew for certain, he would not be able to face the troll in melee combat. So he continued shooting arrows hoping that at least one of them would be hit its mark.

"Porablum, you should retreat as well. Wait, what are you doing?!"

The half-elf remained staggered for a second in disbelief then withdrew in a different direction than Grimgisli hoping that the two trails of footprints would confuse the troll.

Breathing in and out slowly Easlis adjusts the longbow aiming for the troll's eye or at least where he expects it would be as he could barely see anything in the snowstorm. Not having the luxury of waiting for the weather conditions to change he releases the arrow hoping it would hit its large target.

luckily, Hjorleaf's wounds stop bleeding quite as much, and Porablum determines to herself that he looks like he will be ok for the moment.

Easlis aims his bow, squinting against the blowing snow. He spots what he thinks is the troll's head and releases, hearing a most satisfying thunk. but as the snow shifts he finds that he very accurately split a branch with his arrow.
Unfortunately, the way I've always played it and the way that seems to be generally agreed on as the 'correct' way to do it is that miss chance completely negates a hit, even a critical. this has been generally shown to benefit the PCs more over the long run, especially when you start relying more on spells like blur and invisibility, but at this point was the difference between a miss and dropping the troll this round.

Grim fires two arrows in quick succession. one of them sinks into troll flesh, causing more blood to fall. the wound begins to close, but this new wound does not fully seal.

The troll bellows in anger at the archers, but he is unable to get past the frail-looking but surprisingly brave/crazy gnome in front of him.

Upon seeing that he had missed the troll once again the half-elf let out a sigh but continued supporting Grim's ranged assault. Easlis's eye widened realizing that the gnome was not under the influence of any outside force as no enchanted being would have the state of mind of sticking his tongue at the enemy. He took advantage of the pause in bad weather to release another arrow.

"Good riddance. There's no one better to extinguish the spirit of this crazed giant." Easlis approaches huffing and checks both Hjorleaf and Brominate for signs of life.

"Good, they're both alive. To be honest I don't really like this place. There's no telling when another one fey-like creature would come searching for their friends. Yet, we don't have much of a choice at this point. We need to set up camp and these igloos seem to be the best choice around here. Let's just hope they're not occupied."
Easlis has no clue about the cave.

He spends a couple of seconds looking at how Brominate was flailing his limbs during his sleep, before grabbing him by the ankles and dragging him into the nearest igloo. Once ensured that his elven brother is safe and comfortable he begins dragging the human towards the same igloo.

Sitting back, Porablum pulls a vial out of her backpack. "I have a minor healing potion. I could use it on Brom and probably get him back to consciousness. It might get Hjorleaf back up, as well, but I can't do both, and I'm out of healing magic for the day. I could also use it for myself, if we think it would be more useful for me to be stronger than I am." Porablum winced as she moved her shoulder where the troll's giant spear had stabbed her.

the closest igloo appears empty, aside from very simple and dirty bedding. the igloo is designed to be comfortable and maybe even spacious for small creatures, but is a bit of a tight squeeze for the larger party members.

the storm rages through the evening, showing no sign of letting up. Thankfully no more creatures seem to be out and about in this weather, so the night passes uneventfully aside from the howl of the wind. in the morning Brominate and Hjorleaf are able to wake, though they are still quite weakened.
