Golgast extends his hand and closes his eyes, attempting to divine the presence of magical auras within the chest. After several moments he opens his eyes, smiles, and nods.
You can “feel” a faint conjuration aura coming from the chest. With your skill in Spellcraft, you are able to discern that the aura emanates from a cure light wounds spell. There’s probably a potion in there!
Meanwhile, Kandor incites a simple prayer to the Starsong and lays a hand on Magwyn. Soothing energies reinvigorate the warpriest. Magwyn back to full health.
The stone doors to the north remain closed, silent, and still.

"Guys, I hear water flowing behind those doors" Kandor mentions, as he kneels down next to the chest to insert the rusted iron key into the lock. After subtly trying the lock, he hears the pleasant click of the lock opening. Kandor proceeds to open the chest carefully and looks inside to see the contents of the chest. GM Wicked, your turn to give us one of your beautiful descriptions again
| GM Wicked |
Inside the chest you find a small, canvas bag that jingles musically as you lift it. It's full of coins! There's also an exquisitely-crafted dagger, a small ruby that shimmers in the dim light, and a glass potion vial of orange liquid. It is the potion that radiates magic.
20 gold pieces
masterwork dagger (+1 attack)
small ruby worth 50gp
potion of cure light wounds

| Lugert, Half-orc Ranger |
A cave with doors and goblins. No longer a normal hunt.
Lugert looks to his companions and then gives a sideways nod towards the door to Magwyn. With his bow at the ready Lugert heads to the door and gives it once-over for traps or any sounds besides water from behind it.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Lugert will open the doors when the rest of the team is ready and following him.
Kandor, servant of Desna
|
"Here Magwyn, keep this for the next time you decide to kiss some goblin swords" jokes Kandor, as he hands the potion and the bag to Magwyn, before walking towards the door with a javelin in his right hand.
Has anyone applied the Armor check reducing oil yet?
| Gôlgast |
Gôlgast draws his rapier, ready to follow Lugert through the doors.
"I'm as ready to follow as I can be."
Someone else can use my Armor Ointment if they like.
Lugert is right, I am not suffering ACP beyond the weight of my backpack.
I'll hang on to the acid flask, though.
Dex is good enough for chucking that at something.
Kandor, servant of Desna
|
Kandor walks back. "Let's apply the oil we got from Ameiko now, we don't know what we will encounter along the way" he thinks aloud. "Thank you Golgast" says Kandor as Golgast hands him the oil. Kandor starts applying the oil to his armor.
Kandor, servant of Desna
|
After applying the oil, Kandor moves back into position, with the heavy wooden shield on his left hand, and a javelin in the right hand. "before we open this door, let me see if there is magic on the other side" He makes a small gesture with his left hand and looks at the door. Kandor casts Detect magic towards the door
| GM Wicked |
Kandor’s magical “eye” extends out toward the stone door ahead. You can feel the resistance of the stone itself but your magic is able to penetrate it. Beyond, you sense the presence of a strong abjuration aura.
As Lugert pushes against the stone doors, they swing open without difficulty, revealing a room bathed in a shimmering golden radiance! It’s as though sunlight reflects off of the ocean! The light emanates from a rune-covered fountain in the center of the room. It’s made of stone, with a series of tiny runes carved around its lip. The golden light shines from this fountain, but, strangely, the light has no visible source. The water itself seems to glow!
With your knowledge of religious symbols, you can discern the meaning of the fountain’s runes. They say that anyone who offers gold to Desna, goddess of fortune, will receive a blessing.
You figure this means that if you drop at least 1 gold piece into the fountain before drinking, something good will happen to you.
The stone doors to the east are closed.

"You might want to drop a gold piece into that fountain. The water in there will do more than just quench your thirst." Suggests Magwyn in whisper with a smile.
"But first, we should deal with goblins." His voice becomes more serious and he nods at the northwest passage. "Can you hear them?"
| Lugert, Half-orc Ranger |
Lugert moves up slowly to the corner of the northwestern passage. He peaks around the corner.

The walls of this large cavern are covered with crude drawings of goblins. In the southwest corner is a throne made from animal bones, with a goblin wearing a crown of bones and feathers. Four more goblins are nearby, arguing violently with each other. The goblin on the throne appears annoyed, and is covering his ears as the four other goblins shove and scream at each other.

Should be fixed. Ok this initiates combat! You can post your surprise round action if you want (standard or move) but I won't get around to updating until tomorrow.
| GM Wicked |
You’ve got the drop on these goblins. You have the advantage of a surprise round AND you’ve beaten their initiative. I’ll post the surprise round here, then you’re all up again for your first full round. Remember that the goblins are all flat-footed until they take their first turn!
Surprise Round
Hearing the revolting chatter of his hated foe, Kandor wastes no time deciding on a course of action. Hefting the javelin up over his head, he pitches it toward the closest goblin (Gobling 4) with brutal force. The javelin’s tip catches the goblin right on the backside, just above its hamstring. Hit! It squeals in surprise and pain, as the others turn toward you with glowing red eyes. They scream in outrage: ”Longshanks...filthy...attack!”
Lugert sails into the room, his sturdy shortbow at the ready. In one fluid movement he nocks an arrow, aims, and releases, but the goblin ducks down and the arrow careens into the stone wall beyond. I took the liberty of rolling your attack. 1d2 ⇒ 2 You can retrieve that arrow later (do not deduct).
Magwyn stalks into the cave, his greatsword drawn for battle, studying the goblin’s tactics.
Golgast calls out a warning to his allies, then focuses on the stone floor before Lugert. Calling upon earthen, arcane energies, he wills the ground itself to weep, and a slick pool of oil emerges.
The fat goblin king screams for order: ”Staaap! We no look to fight! This throne room of me, King Fatmouth! Who you??”
Everyone is up!

Round 1
Effects:
Magwyn readied action to attack goblin
Conditions:
Dim light (only affects Magwyn)
Kandor launches another javelin at the injured goblin, though the little pest manages to dodge out of the way. Magwyn, still eyeing the goblins carefully, moves to the edge of the oil, hoping to lure them into a trap. Golgast lunges forward, snarling menacingly and spitting threats in Goblin. The goblin nearest him visibly pales, his olive green skin fading to a shade resembling mint. He trembles as he’s pushed forward by the others, clearly wanting to stay back. Successful intimidate! You can only choose one goblin so I arbitrarily chose #3.
Lugert remains calm, as still as a lion in the bush, and takes careful aim between for the king. His arrow flies between two swollen goblin heads and, catching the king off guard, slams solidly into His Highness’s shoulder. The King squeals in rage. ”So be it! Kill them all!” His goblins, now realizing the extent of the threat before them, draw their short swords and advance upon you.
Goblins are dexterous little things, known for their ability to climb, jump, and dodge. As they three at the rush toward you, their feet begin to slip within the grease. However, all three of them quickly regain their balance, adjust their speed, and reach you without much worry. All 3 made their saves against the grease! The scared goblin avoids Golgast, instead trying his hand at stabbing Magwyn But as a goblin draws near to Magwyn, the warpriest is ready. He swings his greatsword around in a graceful arc and slices into the goblin with devastating force. The creature drops like a sack of potatoes.Hit! Goblin 3 is unconscious and bleeding.
One of the goblins is braver, trying to stick his sword into Golgast’s knee, but the magus merely kicks with his boot, throwing the goblin off balance. Two more goblins swarm Lugert. The first one slips in the grease and his blade goes awry. But the second manages to take advantage of the distraction and finds an opening in the ranger’s armor, stabbing him in the leg. 3 damage to Lugert.
Meanwhile the King has regained his bearings. He stands upon his throne and extends a gnarled finger toward the ranger who shot him. ”Shooting not nice! I show you!” A bolt of sickly green light emerges from his hand, flits a winding path through the air, and slams into Lugert. 3 damage to Lugert.

Effects:
Conditions:
Dim light (only affects Magwyn)
Kandor’s clenches his jaw, pivoting back and launching his final javelin. It sails just to the side of the king’s “throne”, however, and bounces off the stone wall behind it. Magwyn raises his sword over his head and slams it down toward the ground, but the little goblins are quick, and dodge this way and that. His sword only strikes the ground, sending a strong vibration up his arm. Golgast, too finds them vexingly hard to hit as his own rapier strike is parried by a goblin sword.
Lugert, however, manages to remove himself from the melee and sends another arrow flying at the king, which hits him squarely in the gut. The king gasps as his blood begins to flow freely. The king spits toward the ranger, a crimson spray that splatters on the cold, stone floor. He raises his tiny goblin hand and makes a complex gesture, mumbling words that are difficult to discern. Lugert’s eyes suddenly go wide with fear as he turns to run.
The other goblins move up, ready to defend their king with their lives. One of them tries to step through the grease (Goblin 2) but slides on the strike surface. His eyes bug out and he swings his arms to try to balance himself, he feet fly out from under him and he lands painfully on his backside. Another strikes at Kandor, but he merely chuckles as the blade bounces harmlessly off of his shield. However, the magus is distracted, and the third goblin manages to stab him in his extended forearm. 2 damage to Golgast.

Magwyn rushes toward the king, blade drawn. But in his fervor to kill, his swing is reckless and clangs off of the throne. The king shrieks.
Kandor and Golgast team up on one of the goblins, Golgast jumping behind it and managing to distract it as Kandor’s morningstar connects solidly with its skull. Its eyes roll back in its (smashed) head as it falls to the floor.
Lugert’s continued screams echo from the southern chambers.
The goblin who slipped in the grease (Goblin 2) clambers to his feet, his entire body now covered in the stuff. He growls at Kandor and advances toward him, weapon drawn. Double move. Meanwhile, the one threatening Golgast Goblin 1 has found an opening in the half-orc’s armor at the knee, and stabs mercilessly, trying to disable his foe. 3 damage to Golgast.

Conditions:

Magwyn has had enough. Fueled by rage at the king’s tricks, he brings his blade around in a back-handed swing. This time the sword finds purchase and the king falls, his broken and bleeding body lies heaped upon the floor.
Just then, Lugert charges into the room looking extremely angry.
Golgast conjures a flame that dances along the length of his rapier, its glow reflecting in the pupils of his eyes as he impales the goblin before him. It, too, falls. Kandor moves to strike the last remaining goblin (G2), but it shrieks in terror and ducks out of the way. Seeing its companions fallen, it attempts to flee, running down the southern corridor at full speed. Kandor takes advantage of its clumsy escape and lands a solid blow against it, but it remains standing and continues its path toward the cave entrance.
