Liberty's Edge

ok so there are lots of threads on this and I was consider giving one a while in society play. Their Second level bonus gives them some nice bonus on Disable Device, yet i can see no where that the template makes this a class skill for them, which make no logical sense. Am i missing a ruling somewhere???

You are correct that it doesn't make any sense. However, it has not been officially changed. You're best bet is to try and find a trait that makes Disable Device a class skill, in order to be able to use the skill effectively in PFS. In a home game, talking your GM into adding Disable Device to your class lists should be hard.

I you are Qadirian Faction, the trait "GoldFinger" gives Disable Device (as well as other things).

Als Vagabond Child in the APG gives the option for D.D.

Liberty's Edge

ok so since we seem to agree this makes no sense, how do we get such an ask submit to the rules committee for a ruling??????

Dark Archive

The PFS boards is definitly not the place, since the PFS admins don't get to make that kind of call. You would need to convince Paizo to make an official errata to Ultimate Combat.

I'm not sure what the process for such a request is, but I'm fairly certain that you won't be the first one to make it.

The Archaeologist archetype has the same "feature". It seems to me that it's a conscious design decision, making the archetypes pretty good at Disable Device, but not the equal of a rogue (not without spending a feat or trait).

I didn't say it makes no sense.

a lot of the assignment of which skills are or aren't class skills makes no sense. This is no different from any of those.

(Why does a bard not get Handle Animal - what? no dog & pony shows?
Why does an Alchemist get appraise and perception?)

I think Archaeologist should get Disable device as a class skill, too.

Just to be clear, the only thing 'being a class skill' does is grant a +3 bonus if you have any ranks in that skill.

It seems like when people get upset over class skills, they are often under the impression it costs double ranks, or it's not considered trained if you have a rank in it, or something like that.

Agreed.

It is intentional to not give them disable device as a class feature. I think one of the devs or either the writer of the class spoke about it. I will try to find the link.

This is a link to the person that wrote the class, Russ Taylor. He says it was intentional.
