Weird Multiclass Combo

I've got a player who wants to play a Multiclass Alchemist / Magus. I have no idea how to approach making a decent character build out of this, anyone have any ideas?

Not that weird a combo.

Both use INT for their spellcasting stat, which cuts down on MAD.

For the Alchemist, you don't want to go too high in it, I don't think, I'd concentrate on the Magus. But, the Alchemist can give some bonuses.

I'd go with a vivisectionist, as they give up bombs (which don't fit a magus very well) and instead get sneak attack (which does mesh well with a melee focused wizard).

Go with Dex for his mutagen (lowers his wisdom). Strength would be more useful,b ut it lowers his int, which is bad for a magus.

For his formulas, I'd go with formulas that self buff.

1st-Level Alchemist Formulae—ant haul*, cure light wounds, disguise self, endure elements, enlarge person, expeditious retreat, keen senses*, shield, true strike.

2nd-Level Alchemist Formulae—aid, alter self, barkskin, bear's endurance, blur, bull's strength, cat's grace, cure moderate wounds, darkvision, eagle's splendor, elemental touch*, false life, fire breath*, fox's cunning, invisibility, levitate, owl's wisdom, protection from arrows, resist energy, restoration (lesser), see invisibility, spider climb.

If you go vivesectionist, you can take levels in arcane trickster.

Arane Trickster will turf your BAB.

Also, since both are medium BAB classes and you need to make attacks against normal AC be sure to take levels in blocks of 4 to avoid hurting your BAB.

One reason I suggested buffing formulas. Bull's Strength + Enlarge Person = Boost to hit. :)

Grand Lodge

Grenadier/Bladebound sounds cool.

No synergy between throwing bombs and a magic sentient sword though.

One reason I suggested vivisectionist is that it dovetails nicely with a straight magus or a bladebound, given it's focus on sneak attack and self buffing.

Vivi/ Magus would be intense! You could build for str and use mutagen to cover a lower AC, or you could make a dervish and blow your Dex through the roof. Take vestigial limbs to rock a shield and wand, and you are set for carnage!

Just take the Arcane Accuracy arcana. It'll add int to hit and you'll rarely miss. I built an Alchemist/Magus/AT and I hit on the first attack always and made the rest a significant amount of the time. its an amazing damage dealing formula.

Spontaneous healing might not be that effective with a multiclass, but it does make the effective hitpoints from alchemist levels more beefy (maybe on the average near a dip into barbarian?) and the fast healing automatically activates if you pass out due to hitting 0 hp. The fact it solves bleeding too just adds frosting. Essentially, I suggest this since you will be at least a bit less squishy a spell caster over all with this discovery.

A Magus is probably going to be either self-buffing or using damaging touch attacks (which don't run on saves) with his sword. Upping Str while dropping Int is 100% okay as long as your Int never drops below the required amount to cast the spell you're trying to cast (16 at maximum).

its a great combo, I have one build with the same classes

Int as main spell modifier, dex for aim... in one hand spells and in the other hand ranged bombs...

take a look at his progress in levels... he will took a lot of ranged combat feats, traits and abilities... after that, the build don´t seems too weird at all!!

i usualy infuse my spellstrike to my bombs and voila!! a lot of dpr

the other multiclass i actualy play is Alchemist-Pyromancer

Silver Crusade

Myrmridarch/ Genadier or Magus/ Grenadier.. Buff bow.. Add Alchemical item and Bomb.. or Alchemical Item and Spellstrike ... Fire arrow... A big explosion of Dice happens.. Go into Arcane Archer for extra fun, My one build was Grenadier 6/Magus 4(Yay spell recall)/ Arcane Archer till done... Somewhere in there picked up Arcane accuracy and Arcane Strike pretty fun, for Full attacks or Standard actions

Oh wow, there are some great ideas here. I'll pass this over to my player.
