Point Blank Shot and Spells

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

Silly question that I probably should know.

Point Blank Shot, works on spells? Precise shot works, yea?

Grand Lodge

Yes to both, as long as the spell has an attack roll.

So, PBS adds one to the damage from Acid Splash, but not to the damage from Magic Missile or Fireball.

And it won't add to non-hit point damage, like from Enervation or something that does Stat damage.

Grand Lodge

Excellent, alright. That's what I thought it was, but wanted to be certain. Thanks kindly.

Nuku, by RAW Point Blank Shot and other feats on that tree work with ray-based spells, which are treated as weapons.

It is not clear if by RAW spells like "acid splash" also benefit.

However, every GM I have ever played with, including me, allows the PBS tree to work with any ranged spell with an attack roll that targets a single creature.

AD: I think there has been clarification on that in an SKR FAQ where he calls out that all weapon-like spells count, not just rays. Same is true for bardic performance bonuses on attack and damage (I've been ruling both those incorrectly for years until somebody made me aware of the FAQ)

Is that an actual FAQ, or just another one of SKR's on-board rulings?

I believe it was an actual FAQ but please don't ask me for a link it got posted as a reply when I (wrongly) stated that PBS wouldn't work with acid splash a while ago, and I just filed it away as something I've been wrong on for so long.

Edit: Or maybe DO ask me for a link - the one labelled SKR FAQ 2 is the one in question
