Templates and resistance and vulnerabilities?

Rules Questions

So the party is about to head into an ancient giant outpost looking for directions to another ruin. Little do they know that a fire giant was left behind as a guard, and made into a Dread Mummy in the process. 40,000 years later it's just insane. Anyhow, the dread mummy takes 2x from fire and gains resist cold 10. The fire giant is immune to fire and takes 1.5x from cold. Soooooo, what this means is they are immune to fire and take damage-10 then x1.5 from cold right?

(Spoiler, I'm going to run with that anyway because the paladin is mouthy and I'm a dick like that. but I am interested in overlapping vulnerabilities and resistance.)

I never did figure out what order to apply multipliers versus resistance. Someone posted an old 3.5 rule of thumb that defenders generally apply in the order most advantageous to them, so in that case it'd be (damage - 10) * 1.5. But I don't know if that has any basis in RAW even for 3.5, much less PF.

The 3.5 FAQ did address this. First make the saving throw for half damage, then apply the resistance by subtracting damage, finally multiply damage for vulnerability.

As a general guideline, whenever the rules don’t stipulate an order of operations for special effects (such as spells or special abilities), you should apply them in the order that’s most beneficial to the creature. In the case of damage, this typically means applying any damage-reducing effects first, before applying any effects that would increase damage. (D&D FAQ v3.5 p. 113)

Might as well stick with this principle, then, unless there's PF RAW that overrides it. Thanks for the legwork.

JJ says apply DR after halving damage due to incorporeality. I would interpret this to always do DR last. I would treat Energy Resistance like DR.

So I would impose 1.5x damage from vulnerability, then apply resist/protection to the damage that would be taken.

It's still consistent with the "do what's most beneficial". I wonder if he'd rule the same order when the multiplier is greater than 1.

Damn, looks like it's still ambiguous.

Assume: 50pts of energy damage, vulnerability (*1.5), a successful save for half (/2), and energy resistance (10).

The Math:
50*1.5/2 = 37.5
50/2*1.5 = 37.5

So before the application of energy resistance we are equal in either case. I cannot find anything that states whether energy resistance is the last or first thing checked. However, I have always used energy resistance last.
