Snap Shot Feat and Flanking

Rules Questions

Hey Pathfinders,
I've got a weird rules question here:

OK, with snap shot, you count as threatening with a bow up to 5ft (allowing you to take attacks of opportunity with a bow.) Now, does this mean you also threaten for the purposes of flanking? IE: You are standing on one side of an enemy, and a party member is on the other, do you give the flanking bonus to your ally? Do you get the +2 bonus to hit as well? (Your not making a melee attack, but you are threatening the opponent). Do you get sneak attack damage?

thoughts?

The best that I can find is here:

Gang Up: Does this feat (page 161) allow you to flank a foe with ranged weapons?

The Gang Up feat allows you to count as flanking so long as two of your allies are threatening your opponent. The feat makes no mention of ranged attacks being included, and since flanking specifically refers to melee attacks, ranged attacks do not benefit from this feat. (JMB, 8/13/10)

I bolded the important part. Flanking specifically refers to only melee attacks. So, you cannot flank with snap shot per RAW.

I could see you granting your ally flanking, but you, yourself would not gain the bonuses (and thus could not use flanking to gain sneak attack when using snap shot).

I agree with that -- Your ally would get flanking bonus since, per the rules, you threaten the square (because of the Snap Shot feat).

However, flanking only applies to melee combat, and so, your (the archer) wouldn't.

I would allow it personally but it doesn't seem like it's raw.

You are threatening for the purposes of providing flanking, so your ally gains the benefits of flanking. You would also count for the purposes of the Gang Up feat.

As a ranged user, you do NOT gain the melee-only flanking bonuses. No +2 to hit, no sneak attack damage, unless you can otherwise deprive your opponent of his Dex bonus to AC.
