Having just obtained the awesome Blood of Fiends supplement, I have finally decided on a very different build for a Council of Thieves tiefling character than I previously intended.

Since it seems kytons have a strong presence in Hell and because shadows have an important role in Council of Thieves, I'm interested in creating a Shackleborn tiefling PC rather than a Hellspawn one.

Inspired by this guide...

...I'd like to create an Eldritch Knight, specifically using 2 levels of fighter, 8 levels of sorcerer (not necessarily taken all at once) and 10 levels of Eldritch Knight.

However, the bloodline that fits most strongly with such a character is Shadow, as kytons were only briefly imprisoned in Hell, after which they arrived in the Plane of Shadow. Shadow and its Umbral Crossblooded option are listed as red in the Gish guide, which means that it probably would not be very useful.

Would a Shackleborn tiefling with the Shadow Bloodline make at least a decent Eldritch Knight? By decent I mean that it functions moderately well in battle and does not suck to the point that you're basically dead weight to the party?

Why not a Demon, or Div spawn? The stats seem more fitting. Remember, the outer characteristics vary wildly in tieflings, so the look is very much in your control. Also, you can have a mixture of different fiendish bloodlines. You could be part kyton and shadow demon.

Because this character is intended for Council of Thieves, where devils and shadows are two of the major leading themes. It's a matter of narrative integrity in this case. Technically I should be going Devil-Spawn, but they take a hit to Charisma, so I wouldn't really be able to make the most of any sorcerer levels I take.
