Draeven does what he can to help as well. He checks with Spivey, Did you find anything of the Drake's loot? Anything magical?

How about you Jeryn? When you get a moment you should look over the last bits of stuff we found. Maybe there is something interesting or valuable we have overlooked.

When asked he happily goes to retrieve Koya and Sandru and the wagons...

~Human Evoker (lvl 4)~ Perc +7 Init +1 AC 19 (15+4 mage armor) HP 25 Fort +2 Ref +2 Will +4 CMB +2 CMD 17

Jeryn says Nothing of interest I'm afraid. Mud and rocks. Quite a multitude of rocks, actually. Turning to Kelda, he says If you so choose we could build cairns for the fallen instead of burying them, the choice is yours.

The only treasure is the body of the drake itself - fascinating creature. Draeven would you assist me in...collecting a couple of items for research? If possible I would like to try to determine the age of the creature, as well as the sex. I would like to measure and weigh the heart, spleen, liver and brain if possible.

Tapping a finger on his chin he says Quite alright if we haven't the time, of course. This is purely for academic purposes, you see.

Jeryn then offers to take a closer look at some of the items that have been collected along the way.

Appraise ring: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 oops just read the discussion board, don't think that there is a ring to identify sorry

Appraise compass: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Appraise shield: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Appraise diamond: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Appraise pearl: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Appraise opal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

So exciting to have killed a drake, can't imagine not doing something with that fascinating body! Not sure if there are any useful parts for spell components or if anything has value (i.e. maybe the head could be stuffed and sold, I don't know) - if nothing else may as well record some data about a neat creature! I mean 'record' in the sense of 'keeping track' in a journal for RP purposes, I don't actually expect anybody to come up with actual measurements for those organs...unless you know them off of the top of your heads!

Update - Safeguard the Amatatsu Seal | Reclaim Brinewall(?) | Find the Drake's hoard

SAt NaV | Town of Brinewall | The Lagoon |

Kelda is moved by the group's continued deferral to her in deciding the fate of her fallen comrades. For an Ulfen the unusual show of emotion may be a show of weakness, yet for a woman who has endured what she had prior to her rescue, Kelda steps up to the task with the air of professional fulfilling her role satisfactorily. She does all she can, labouring with each of you throughout the rest of the day. By evening, a sort of mass grave has been dug and the bodies respectfully laid to rest. A short ceremony is held with prayers to Desna and Gorum being offered. Then as the last of the day's sun creeps below the horizon the final shovel load is carefully tamped into place and thoughts can be turned towards an appropriate marker. With talk of moving in and settling Brinewall, there is time yet to consider what form such a marker might take.

It would be another week before Sandru's caravan can traverse the overgrown road into Brinewall; trees need to be felled and brush cleared away. The job will take a team of lumberjacks more than just a few days to cut the road free of the forest's entrapment. Using the limited tools at hand in Sandru's wagons, cutting a path wide enough for the caravans to follow will take more than that. Rather than undertake such a monumental task in the dying daylight, the group returns to camp for the night to refresh their bodies and reflect upon the day's events.

Koya and Sandru are relieved to see everyone return and the old woman immediately sets to work serving up some of her best vegetable soup while Sandru prepares another setting at the fireside Kelda and splashes mead into cups. Skewers as set to roast by the fire as stories are exchanged. Koya doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to reach Brinewall proper saying the woods feel comfortable especially now that the Corbies have been dealt with. Besides, the idea of, "spending the night in a town whose streets are lined with posed skeletons", doesn’t seem to appeal to her.
Jeryn, with some assistance from the women (Fenra, Ameiko, Kelda, Spivey and Koya can all assist), sorts through some of the more mysterious items collected.
- The light steel shield bearing the image of Castle Brinewall is enchanted to do more than just protect its user as a standard shield would. This shield would go beyond deflecting simple attacks; aiding the bearer to withstand mortal blows or even those attacks which may approach unseen (+2 Shield of Fortification (9,000gp)).
- The fair sized diamond, while popular with the girls for its radiance even in the fire light, is discovered to hold a particular appeal to the wizard. Closer inspection of the gem reveals strange fractures in the gem's cut. While not physical imperfections, the fractures fluidity suggests it holds unique arcane properties which, if employed as part of a spell, would hasten the casting (Aura strong (no school); CL 11th; Slot none; Price: 8,000 gp (Metamagic gem: quickening)) .
- The pearl holds similar arcane interests and is identified as a pearl of power, a magical aid regularly used by wizards of respectable maturity (Aura strong transmutation; CL 17th 9,000 gp (3rd)) .
- The opal proves elusive at first but the collective minds of those gathered around the fire put the mystery to rest soon enough. A rarity due to its relative impractical nature, it is identified as an earth elemental gem capable of summoning a large elemental. The drawback of such an item, and thus the reason for its rarity, is the need for its destruction in order to function. Like the diamond, the gem is lost once used and for those capable of magical summonings, this represents nothing more than a rather expensive spell. Yet not everyone can conjure elementals with a mere gesture and so for the layperson, these sorts of trinkets still serve a purpose and remain of value (Aura moderate conjuration; CL 11th Slot —; Price 2,250 gp; Weight —)
- As with the opal, the remaining item reveals itself after some cooperation. The compact compass, or wayfinder, is the forgotten, or perhaps even lost tool of a pathfinder. The device functions primarily as a magnetic compass, and also can emit light when instructed. It contains at least one slot that, if rumors are true, fits an ioun stone. The magical wires within the device would, theoretically, channel and amplify the stone's power. Wayfinder designs are derived from ancient Azlanti artifacts, and a few such Azlanti devices still exist. While most experienced magical crafters can build a new wayfinder, many date back decades or even centuries and are handed down across generations. (Aura faint evocation; CL 5th Slot none; Price 500 gp; Weight 1 lb.)

While not everything here is tailor made for the group, as mentioned in the discussion thread, there are no huge limitations to what sort of magic is available. Just role play me a few hints or even a shopping list and we can head to town to find it :)

Spivey hovers in the air and shakes her head no to Draeven's query, Nothing around the docks were we were working. I can fly elsewhere tomorrow! Umm, any suggestions? The tiny woman’s sheepish expression suggests she wouldn’t mind a little direction. Hoping to move the discussion along and away from her embarrassment Spivey turns to Ameiko and Jeryn, Perhaps tomorrow we can pull the Drake out of the lagoon! There could be treasure inside its belly! Don’t some creatures eat their treasure? Sharks do, and they live in the seas…

The next day...

Rennyn:
Your evening’s meditation brings forth the smell of sandalwood. The sticks of incense smoldering in a pot filled with sand send wisps of smoke to curl and bend on their ascent. Following their trail the room comes into view. It is the familiar Tian style room you have seen before. Tatami laid criss cross fashion provide warmth and in the background, beyond the walls of the room can be heard chanting. You are not alone. Seated before the room’s wooden shrine to Shizuru is the Empress Onoko. In her hands is your sword undergoing her careful scrutiny. Once more unsheathed, the cold steel blade glimmers slightly in the natural lighting of the room. The straight edges of the sword’s hamon are as you’d created them, razor sharp and set perfectly running down the length of the blade. The Empress’ image shifts and the trickle of running water reaches your ears. Before her is a shallow wooden trough just long enough for her to wash a katana and your sword has been freed of its wooden hilt. Onoko dips the metal into the water then reaches into a wicker basket at her side retrieving a fragment of cream colored stone. Bending her head, she methodically begins to etch the blade, rubbing the flat stone along the hamon an inch at a time using the pressure of her thumb. Given the blade’s keen edge, this is dangerous work and all but the most skilled of craftsmen would surely lose a finger in the process. The stone fragment is quickly ground to powder but the Empress merely dips the blade and collects a fresh piece.
She continues her work, polishing the entire length of the blade expending piece after piece of the creamy bone as she goes. Yes, bone. And not just any bone. As you watch the pieces emerge from the wicker basket you realize the cream colored stones are in fact the fragments of a skull pieces of which Onoko has been snapping off. By the time her hand reaches for the jaw, the identity of the skull’s previous owner comes to mind – the oni tengu Kikonu.
The Empress dips the sword one last time into the water and with practiced ease wipes the blade clean with a pure white cloth. In minutes the hilt is reassembled and the sheathed blade presented back to you.
Waking from your meditations you see that nothing has changed; your belongings all stand where you have left them. However upon closer inspection of the katana… (the +2 enhancement now applies to any foe not just oni and the proficiency penalty no longer applies; Rennyn is free to choose/switch between either elven curve blade or katana)

The shield is a sale item. So is the diamond in my opinion. The pearl is nice but unusable until Jeryn reaches 5th level. The opal might be useful in a pinch but could also be sold. The wayfinder is practical I guess. The metamagic gem and elemental gem are not Pathfinder items. Any reason you went out of official books for these?

Once more, the group sets off in the morning for the town of Brinewall leaving Rennyn and Ameiko behind. While the elf devotes his morning to his thoughts, their hostess had emerged from the wagon looking a little worse for wear, as though she'd not gotten any rest.
Spivey leads the way, leaving Shalelu to bring up the rear. By the time you arrive at the lagoon, the lyrakien has already started her search out over the waters. The Empress acknowledges Rennyn's kowtow with a nod appropriate to her station before addressing his question, To serve is the greatest honor. The words, To serve linger in the paladin's thoughts...

Nearly invisible from the surface, after a brief swim both Draeven and Fenra are greeted with the faint glimmering reflections of numerous coins and other metallic items shortly after breaking the surface of the water. The hoard is scattered across an oval depression roughly 20ft in diameter in approximately the same shape a drake would make while curled up for a rest. I was hoping some of the others would chime in first...

Feeling suddenly as though all eyes of the group are on them, waiting on them to respond to the paladin question, Spivey and Kelda glance awkwardly toward each other, then to Rennyn. Kelda is the first to answer, I am indebted to you. The ulfen woman gestures to indicate she means everyone from the group, A life debt is no mere thing. I pledge my skills and my spells. Everything I have are at your disposal until such time as I have made my restitution. As with any debt, the unspoken clause of waving what is due by the debtor lingers quietly in the background. Honor binds this woman to the group and as a woman of Linnorm blood she will obey your wishes. Should the group decide she is no longer needed, or wanted, that is for you to decide.
Spivey tilts her head to the side in contemplation. She'd been a follower in the past and had only taken up her role as caretaker in Brinewall because she felt the Tender of Dreams had sent her a sign. But that was many years ago. With the imposed terror of Kikonu lifted, a great change is poised to fall upon Brinewall. New folk may make Brinewall their home and free her from her obligation. Although Spivey is excited to see what happens to this little town, she cannot ignore the fact that another new path has opened. Her innate yearning to explore the world steps up, Its been years since I've seen other places. I think it would be fun!

Fenra's eyes sparkle as brightly as the jewels in the growing pile. She runs her hands through the baubles, occasionally pulling one out to examine it more closely.

She frowns slightly at Kelda's words. We did what you would surely do in our position. We would never leave someone in that awful place. No debt is incurred.

This treasure more than pays any debt anyways she thinks to herself.

The burden of linnorm pride is a heavy weight. Kelda meet's Fenra's reply with silence yet the subtle sigh and look upon the ulfen's face hints that this was more than just a simple rescue to her. For the people of the north a life debt is to be taken seriously and it will take more than one party member to wave this off. While Kelda does not disagree with the oracle, she is also well aware that not everyone in Golarion are as just in their actions. For this, Kelda permits herself a small smile, softening her eyes for the fair Fenra just enough to communicate acceptance.
As the Drake's treasure is sorted and collected, Kelda is careful not to touch what she is not directed to. The tall woman is genuinely pleased for the group's success and readily follows direction.

Please continue with the banter :) I believe the question of what to do next remains; where to go from here, role playing the settling of inventory etc. Everyone should have an opinion or some imagining of what they would like to do.

Where I shall go and what I would do, I have not given any thought.
As for the collection of treasure, Kelda eyes this suspiciously. It's not that the coins or gems are cursed, it's all fine; the Ulfen woman just has not come to terms with the idea of sharing.

Let's consider treasure shared with the NPCs, just not subtracted from what's been collected. | What's next? Plans?

Returning to camp carrying sacks filled the Drake's hoard brings smiles to the faces of all. Even a pale looking Ameiko manages a sly smile worthy of those looks she'd gotten on a good night at the Rusty Dragon. Talk of leaving Brinewall comes to fruition in the form of plans to make for Riddleport, or possibly another city. As would be expected, Sandru is not overly pleased with the idea of going to a city overrun with pirates and lawlessness however Koya quickly points out the group would not have to arrive in their usual caravan train. Arriving on horseback would offer a harder, more maneuverable and therefore less tempting target for bandits. No sooner do the words leave her mouth than her face shows some doubts to her logic. Is this a bit of the old woman's carefree spiritedness towards recklessness? (Feel free to disagree with her logic)
The discussion has everyone engaged, all execpt Ameiko that is. While enthusiastic on the outside, even half-jokingly suggesting the name of The Salty Drake for the town's first watering hole, her attention frequently drifts away and more than once you catch her staring quietly into the dancing flames of the camp fire.

Sorry to hold things up, I've tried posting this a few times - each of them being eaten by updates and then put on hold by RL

As the evening draws to a close the mood is light and everyone in the group is looking forward to returning to civilization, or at least their idea of it. With full purses and heroic deeds tucked under belts, it is difficult to imagine anything but a bright future. Yet as the distant eyes of Ameiko slowly rise from the flickering fire light to settle upon each of you, her gaze summons an awkward moment of silence. Returning her stare you see the Tian's expression is uncharacteristic. Her carefree gaze is sombre and she has never been more serious. You get the feeling she has something important to say.

Magnimar. The word feels like it is from out of left field, but it serves its purpose in capturing your attention, I know you are all looking forward to riding into Riddleport, sleeping in a real bed or whatever it is you need, but I can't share in your triumph there. Its not that I'm wanted or anything, there's the hint of a suggestive smile at this, its just, Ameiko looks upward to the emerging stars overhead, my fate will be following a different path from yours, one which will not see the revival of Brinewall. Ameiko pauses long enough to call upon her reserves of courage and with a deep breath continues, We undertook this expedition in part to discover something of my family. The other day we did that, uncovering a side of my Grandfather I didn't know existed. No one is more shocked at this revelation than I. The idea alone, that somewhere, on the other side of the world is place where all of this began is mind blowing. That I am being drawn there now, is surreal. Ameiko gives her head a small shake, But before I get to that, I want to thank you for all you have done until now. I could not have come this far without the strength and courage of my closest and dearest friends. Her hand moves to cover the top of her left breast, Truly, thank you.

Ameiko smiles and before any can respond in kind she continues, I have business in Magnimar; loose ends which need to be taken care of. I don't actually need to be physically there, I can conduct my business from almost any temple of Abadar just about anywhere, even Riddleport. But I need to send word and speak with my family's advocate. As an aside she adds, I never thought I would be doing something like this - had even sworn not to touch my family's holdings but things change.
All I would ask as your friend is that you get me there. This is a simple enough request and I feel I am within my rights to ask to accompany you. Where you go from Riddleport, that's your choice. Ameiko spreads her hands to show the tops of her palms symbolically releasing you from any obligations you may feel toward her.

And now the Tian straightens, her composure strengthening to almost regal proportions, I know, were I to ask, some of you would willingly follow me beyond Riddleport, but I cannot in good conscience ask you to do that. Where I have to go, there is no coming back. There is no certainty of success and every certainty of mortal danger to any who follow. The is a brutal truth to her words underscored by the visions you all shared of Oni killing the innocent people of Minkai.
Once I have concluded my business in Varisia I will travel to Minkai. I don't as yet know how I will get there or which road to travel. All I know is I have to go. You see, the people there, my people, are terrified. They are living in fear, surrounded by death and despair. Since opening my grandfather's box an unbreakable connection was made between myself and the kami who resides within my family's hanko - our seal. I feel their desperation, their hopelessness and it is overwhelming. I cannot simply stand by and let this happen. Unless I return to Minkai and claim the throne as Empress, the Oni will enslave all of Tian Xia. This is something I cannot let transpire. That they have not already done so is because they do not possess the seal. But the Oni are cunning and they will eventually find a way.

While I cannot ask you to join me, I can make you an offer. I will not refuse your company nor will I judge your choice to leave me to my fate. But please, understand. Should you join me, there can be no going back. You will be honor bound to me and the people of Minkai. My destiny will be yours until death separates us. Ameiko eyes bore into each of you in turn, This is the most serious of commitments. A pledge to put your lives in my hands. It is for this reason that I do not expect your help as a friend in need. I make this offer to you as the future Empress of Minkai and offer to you all the honor that comes with your service.

Before anyone can speak Ameiko holds up her hands, Please, do not rush to your decision. I will not speak to you until morning. I implore you to sleep on it. Think carefully, and if you judge your life's ambitions to be in line with my fate. If you know in your heart you are willing to accept death as the only reward for walking down my path, then come to me in the morning, or the next. My offer will stand as long as I have the breath to accept it, you need only find me.

With her speech finished Ameiko stands and bows deeply. The bow conveys a double meaning; one of both humble gratitude and a possible farewell. How you interpret it you know is up to you. As the fire cracks and spits embers into the night sky the woman Ameiko Kaijitsu departs and having accepted her destiny takes her first steps as Amatatsu Ameiko, rightful heir to the throne of Minkai.

Perhaps not the best wording but I hope you get the picture. Accepting Ameiko's offer starts your character on the slippery road leading to Tian Xia and then to Minkai to crown Ameiko as its Empress. Please post your decision in as much detail as you can. Ahead, there is much to discuss: How will you get there? Which road will you take? Several options are available including the railroad Part 2 will make you ride. I'm willing to dive into the sandbox, let you drive the train to Minkai any way you want, as long as we get there. The only option not available is teleporting there; wards upon the seal prevent this from happening. Please keep this problem in mind as we move forward.

Rennyn listens to Ameiko's speech and it is obvious to anyone who looks at him that he is troubled by what he hears. When she is finished speaking and bows he makes no move to reciprocate.

After she is gone he looks at the others trying to gauge their reactions while her words replay in his head. "You will be honor bound to me and the people of Minkai. My destiny will be yours until death separates us."

She looks sadly at Ameiko and goes to speak with Koya.

My attempt at yet another retcon....

It is late when the party, or what's left of it, decides to call it a night. Quietly plans are made to head your separate ways in the morning and leave Ameiko to her crazy ideas. Laying your heads down in turn (assuming a night watch) sleep quickly takes hold and you are visited by vivid dreams.

Interestingly, it is the vision you'd all shared previously in the vault. The army of terrible fiends— complete with burning skin, glaring eyes, and sharp tusks, wearing strange armor and wielding exotic weapons—emerges from the bowels of a storm blasting its way out of a vast forest. The fiends descend upon the Tian nation leaving a haze of ruin and death in their path.
The haze clears and the young man dressed in royal robes stands over a simple well. His friend is at his side. Suddenly, the friend grows nearly three times in size and is sheathed in a frightening suit of jade armor. The jade warrior draws a sword and strikes down his royal friend, then holds the bloody sword aloft in triumph. The distant cry of thousands of mournful voices echoes across the land.
The dream turns cold and follows a young Tian man fleeing across ice covered fields. You feel the bitter cold, the urgency to escape and sense that behind this young man are the icy graves of frozen corpses numbering in the dozens - those of his followers who'd sucomb.
Then Ameiko appears, dressed in the finery of an empress. She rises from sleep, yet not in the humble Varisian caravan you know her to be in now, but from a resting spot within the arms of a jade throne.
These dreams pass and you remember the lands invaded by the fiends was Minkai. You remember the man murdered by the jade warrior was the last Emperor Shigure of Minkai and that Ameiko Kaijitsu's true family name is Amatatsu, the last of five royal families of Minkai. You know the Amatatsu line was chosen by divine decree by Shizuru herself and is, to this day, the last surviving royal family. The young Tian man fleeing over the ice was Ameiko’s grandfather, Rokuro Kaijitsu, formerly Amatatsu Tsutoku and upon his death, and the death of his son, Ameiko herself is the sole heir to her line.
The dream ends with Ameiko seated alone by the warding box, tears streaming quietly down her face. She is at a loss and alone with a dark shadow looming over her. As your friend weeps, her words of loss and regret are interspersed with memories of tutors forcing her to comply with studies; an education forced upon her by her late father to make an aristocrat of her. The reality of it is, she has no idea what she is doing, then or now. She's grasping at memories of lessons she didn't pay any attention to and doesn't understand, using those lessons, trying to become something she is not ready to be - a leader. Her words, you realize, were spoken in error and she is in agony over it; fearful she has lost her friends, yet torn by the thought of leading those she loves to certain death. There exists also an old wound connecting her fears with this thought.
As you wake, all of the powers and abilities of both the Amatatsu Seal and its warding box rush back to your memory; including the danger of leaving the warding box open, which would allow the oni of the Five Storms to once more track the Amatatsu Seal.
By your sides is a small jade square rod; an inch wide and 5 inches long. It is a Tian hanko or seal bearing your own name and your right to royal ascent to the house Amatatsu. The sides are adorned with images of yourselves (each of your hanko bears a bust image with your likeness) playing amid a forest of bamboo with a dragon, the great wyrm's snake like body winds around the hanko decoratively. As you examine it, a new voice speaks softly to you and you realize it belongs to the kami which resides within the Amatatsu seal currently resting in the warding box, Together. The seal has exercised its right to invest you as scions.
As with the warding box you know these hanko to be magical and as long as they remain in your possession, has the power to protect each of you from anything Golarion can produce, from the coldest winds to the hottest days (as Endure Elements), you will be shrouded in comfort. The hanko also has the power to grant those around you the courage to overcome any obstacle which may come your way (as Bless, once per day). But there are limits to these powers, only together will your hanko resonate with their arcane gifts, should you become separated (100ft from any hanko) your personal seals become inert until once again reunited.

Hope this is better...

Around the campfire...

Rennyn listens carefully to his best friend as she lays out her plan. He has already made up his mind before she is even finished with her speech. He would follow her anywhere. If he hadn't acknowledged it consciously before, at least subconsciously he knew he was going to the other side of the world as soon as they found the seal and had the visions.

He does not respond immediately, letting the others speak if they so desire and respecting Ameiko's request to "sleep on it". He stands and bows to his dear friend as she steps away from the fire.

After any discussion is had, Rennyn sits cross-legged by the fire, his katana across his lap and trances. Thoughts and plans for the arduous trip begin to formulate in his head, but perhaps Shizuru will have plans of her own...

The next morning...

Rennyn, having waited for Ameiko to rise for the day, approaches her straight away and bows deeply while holding his prized sword out in both hands. Head still bowed he speaks. I will go wherever you go. I will defend you from whatever may come. I will never leave your side unless commanded to do so. I will do this as long as you wish me to serve. This is my oath.

Fenra listens to Ameiko, her head filling with multiple emotions.
She is a wanderer at heart and her first thought is at the opportunity! Although half Varisian she has never been to the land of her mothers, Koya and her birth mother. They have travelled many places but never as far as Varisia and now the thought cannot be displaced from her head.

Ameiko's need also weighs on her. She is both excited and worried for her friend; the prospect of participating in such an epic battle scares yet invigorates her. She looks to Koya wondering if the old woman is up for such a trip. Much needs to be discussed.

It is a difficult thing, discussing what is so hard to put into words. For some, there is apprehension in the air, remoteness for others as they separate themselves from what everyone is thinking, Should I go with her? Is this a commitment I can make?
Little is said as the party remains closed lipped, wrestling with their thoughts. Although Rennyn's silence is mirrored by Draeven and Fenra, their meanings can not be perceived as the same. The paladin's show of respect as Ameiko departed practically screams his intentions without needing to say a word. On the other side of the spectrum, Draeven's solitude the next day hints of a different path. But until the big man speaks his mind, nothing is certain.
Jeryn and Kenan's withdrawn silence hints at even less. It is hard to read such stoic faces and until something is offered, like the big man, what roles they will play are uncertain.
For Fenra's part, the oracle's silence only reflects her concern for Koya. The elderly matron has enjoyed the ride this far, will she take the next leap and go all the way? Will her health stand up to the test? As though reading her mind Koya regards Fenra with kind eyes, Well, that girl's certainly changed. So sedate! The old woman glances around at the rest of the group, Hmph! I don't care how serious she gets with herself, if I were a young girl I would jump at the opportunity. Mark my words, a week or two from now Ameiko will be back to her old giddy self. Koya returns her gaze to Fenra, her eyebrows raised in that hint dropping sort of way.

Rennyn's evening of contemplation bears no divine revelations from the goddess of swords. His mind does not enter the simple tatami room and the only scent to reach his nose is that of the camp fire and the surrounding foliage. The paladin's thoughts remain focused on the road ahead and is perhaps in on itself a sign from the goddess.

The next day finds Ameiko sitting outside by the fire. The Tian hostess had gotten up at some point late in the evening or early in the morning and quietly tended to the embers, keeping watch over the others. Her eyes are swollen from lack of sleep and bloodshot with grief. Gentle prodding reveals she has not slept, not since opening the warding box and discovering her family's legacy. Ameiko quietly confides that she has been grieving for her grandfather and, if she is to completely honest with herself, is scared. She has no idea of what to expect: How will she get to Tian Xia? Will she succeed in getting there or fail? What will happen when, or if, she sets foot in Minakai? She's feeling a lot of pressure, pressure she's not ready to deal with.
My family has holdings in Magnimar. Once I contact my barristers I can liquidate these and get the necessary funds. Ameiko blushes, I don't really need the treasure, she cocks her head in the direction of the lagoon and Brinewall to imply what's been found there, Grandfather was a very good business man and my father managed it well enough. With a soft chuckle to herself she adds, I vowed never to touch it. Amieko sighs and rolls her eyes sarcastically, So much for that. She gets serious again, I'll be selling the Dragon and my families villa in Sandpoint as well. That glassworks too, quickly explaining, I've had plenty of offers over the years and I still know people who are interested. Ameiko's voice cracks a bit and she closes her eyes - walking away from the Rusty Dragon and leaving Sandpoint will weigh heavily upon her heart. As a tear traces its way down her cheek she clutches at the sides of her head seeking comfort whispering, Their pleas...I can't ignore them.

Actions? I have not mentioned the other NPCs as the post is already getting long and I'm not sure if I should drag them along or just let them fade away. There is the question of acquiring funds and plotting a course for Minkai. Which direction will the group take? I will assume everyone has basic knowledge of what Golarion looks like and that it is possible to sail there or travel across the polar caps to the north. The NPCs will answer questions concerning logistics but will not offer opinions as to the best route to take. I get the feeling Fenra would like the NPCs to make the journey as well but I welcome everyone's opinion.

Fenra looks into her adoptive mother's dancing eyes. Her robust outward appearance and forceful manner belie what Fenra knows is an increasingly failing health. She has been helping Koya alleviate her aches for a while now and knows that Koya will want to accompany Ameiko, if only for what will likely be her last chance to see Varisia; in fact she doubts that Koya will leave there again. She also understands that it will soon be time for her to forge her own path, separate from her family's world.

She smiles and Koya's inquisitive yet slightly melancholy expression and squeezes her hand in understanding. Standing, she approaches Ameiko.

We will go with you Ameiko. I do not know if Koya or Sandru will go further than Varisia, but I will pledge to aid you in the salvation of your people and the restoration of your family.

She gives Ameiko a warm embrace.

I think it would be natural for Koya and Sandru to accompany them to Varisia and then they can be left there rather than dumping them now. It would make sense for a final pilgrimage and then Fenra would have closure with that chapter of her life and move on more easily. I do agree though that there are too many NPCs.

Jade Regent Part II: Night of Frozen Shadows....

Ongoing Objectives: Safeguard Ameiko and the Amatatsu Seal | Get to Minkai
Immediate Objectives: Secure funds | Find and hire a guide

Land of the Linnorm Kings | Varisia | Jol | Tomgruv | Kopparberget | Solskinn | Losthome

After considerable debate from all in the party *cough* it is decided that the path leading to the north is the best option. Not only is there an established trade route to Tian Xia from the city of Kalsgard, but it is also the path taken by Ameiko's grandfather; he must have chosen this route for a reason, right?

It was for this very reason that the option to go north was first suggested - and had been quickly shot down for the such foolish logic. If the Amatatsu family escaped this way, there is a chance the route may yet be watched. Other disadvantages were tabled as well however in the end, because the northern route promises to be the quickest, Sandru's small train of caravans now makes its way through the Nolands.

Ahead lay the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, a rugged country of legend and superstition. The road ahead joins an existing trade route between the dwarven mine at Kopparberget and the city of Jol before continuing north into the Grungir Forest. There the caravan road crosses the eastern neck of the Grungir until it reaches the bridge to Losthome, at which point the route follows the western bank of the Thundering River as it meanders north, connecting the many small settlements and steadings that stand upon the river’s banks. At the confluence of the Thundering and Rimeflow rivers, the trade route branches again, with one trail crossing the Skalsbridge and heading northeast toward Trollheim while the other continues along the Rimeflow to Kalsgard. The later, being the largest city in the region, is the group's destination and next staging point.

With the help of Kelda, Sandru calculates the total distance from Brinewall to Kalsgard is about 440 miles; the actual time it takes to travel between them depends on the speed of the caravan, but is likely around two weeks. To his relief, the trip thus far has been largely uneventful save for the occasional glimpse of some of the larger predators of the region, such as bears and mountain lions shadowing the caravan for a mile or so before losing interest and searching elsewhere for easier prey. The ravens and sea birds of the region are plentiful overhead, and the chance to supplement provisions with an elk or two taken down in the hills and at the forest’s edge does not go ignored.

A few elk will not be enough though. Sandru, having never travelled this far north, is decidely out of his element. And he is understandably nervous, this leg of the journey is a one way trip. It was originally planned to be a trip to Brinewall and back to Sandpoint. Four weeks of supplies were taken along and at present these now sit at only one weeks worth. Granted, there is more game to be had, but the horses prefer oats. And that's not all. Better suited to the warmer Varisian climate, the party finds it hard to ignore the noticeable persistent chill in the air and cold nights. Sandru's newest worries strive from the fact that his convoy isn't properly equipped for this climate. It will need upgrades or right out replacing if the group is to continue across the ice packed fields the visions had shown.

Kenan:

Ummm, you still playing? If so, please feel free to contribute the following in your own words:
From the time you depart, your meditations continually bring you the image of crows and or their troublesome cawing. At some point in the journey, not too far away from a place called Losthome (a distance of about 160 miles), you notice that one of the ubiquitous ravens shadowing the caravan in the hope of finding scraps to eat is a much larger specimen than normal, perhaps the size of a small dog. Now that you notice it, It is easy to spot and it returns every couple of days before departing again. One of its wing pinions is blood-red in color. The raven remains out of range of missile weapons and spells, usually just perching on a tree branch and watching or soaring high above.

Can I get a head count? Who's still in? I have added links to some of the settlements the caravan passes along the way. Should any of these prove adequate to your needs you are welcome to hit the shops there however Kalsgard remains the best choice.

I'm still in of course. I was out of town for work for a week. Just finally getting a chance to catch up on things around here. Sorry.

Our supplies should last until Jol wouldn't you say Sandru? We can resupply and refit the caravan there. We have a lot of coin and trade goods to pay for what we need. From there we can make for Kalsgard and hopefully sell the rest of our treasure and purchase any additional needed equipment and magic we may need for the journey to Minkai. Finding a guide might also be a good idea. This land looks entirely unforgiving to those that aren't familiar with it.

Earlier...

Draeven took a long time before approaching Ameiko with his answer to her request. In fact he waited until the last moment, as the caravan was getting ready to move. Having stood staring at the horizon for a good while he finally spoke. I think it would be interesting to see what lies over the top of the world. And with that he fell into line with the caravan as it departed the outskirts of Brinewall.

Currently...

Draeven spent most of his time shadowing the caravan, providing both scouting duties along with hunting for game. He hasn't spoken much since the caravan left Brinewall.

Still planning on re-configuring Draeven. Thinking Druid or perhaps Barbarian. Maybe both. Guess I had better decide before the next combat. :)

Maybe I'm missing some important math but 4 weeks provisions for Sandpoint to Brinewall and back means two weeks are used and if its two weeks to Kalsgard then we should be good to there and can resupply and get everything we need. Otherwise Losthome seems big enough to resupply to get us to Kalsgard.

Having spent all her life travelling yet never having really travelled far outside of Varisia, Koya's eyes are bright at the prospect of a grand adventure. After speaking with her Fenra knows that she is eager for this trip but also, judging by her aged body, not likely to make it to Tian and back. Her own excitement at the opportunity laid out before them is somewhat tempered by this knowledge, but she knows that if this is to be Koya's final journey she could not ask for one more epic. Fenra smiles at Koya and goes to confirm their departure with Ameiko.

Ameiko, we would like nothing better than to aid you in this endeavour. Adventure awaits!

It is not just the thought of restoring to Ameiko her birthright of an an entire land!, although the visions of gold and jewels they are likely to amass does more than interest her, but the travel itself. The challenge of charming or out negotiating rival merchants, the thrill of exotic lovers, the beauty of new lands waiting to be discovered, all drive her forward. She helps to make ready the caravan and lays a calming hand on Sandrhu's shoulder.

Don't worry, I'm sure we will run across a few places we can get food before reaching Kalsgard.

Sandpoint to Brinewall is a little further than Brinewall to Kalsgard, but through easier terrain and with more places to stop to pick up supplies along the way. Jol is twice the population and we hit there first. I don't think we even pass through Losthome unless we take a detour.

Jol was the first one I clicked on and the description was so minimum I didn't even notice the population was decent, you are right we can get supplies there. I thought we had to go via Losthome though because that is following the road. I don't think the wagon(s) (not really sure if there is more than one) can cut through the forest. Maybe we can skirt the forest the other direction though. But it doesn't matter to me as long as it makes sense.
