Continued efforts to ORC Remaster older content?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

As someone new to Pathfinder and more as a collector over being a player, it's taken a little bit to wrap my head around what is what, especially with the OGL Remaster to ORC content, understanding the D&D 3.5 to PF1e transition and the old style of book categorization and Adventure Paths (so cool the AP's are literally premium magazines AND the spiritual successor to Dragon and Dungeon!). It has been incredibly fun with many "ohh now I get it!" moments.

It was very straightforward to identify what to buy as far as the 2e Remastered content. However, not having the 2e legacy products, it is very difficult to understand what (if anything) labeled 2e just works "as is", not needing any conversion. I mean, I have a vague sense that things like Lost Omens material being focused on lore probably require little to no adaptation. Are there any sources of errata that could address something like Secrets of Magic or Book of the Dead? I know content from those books got ripped into newer books, but not owning them I have no idea what additional lore or concepts in them would make them still worth owning?

Are there other earlier 2e Adventure Modules or Adventure Paths that could literally just have a "virtual sticker" applied labelling them as 2e Remastered certified as-is, or again, errata sheets calling out changes needed?

Then that touches on the massive range of 1e content. Is there anywhere that indicates what of that could be used in 2e relatively unscathed? Chronicles, Player Companion, AP's, Modules...? I tried using AI and it's clueless as to resources out there and the best it can recommend is "Yes, maps require no conversion"... duh. And is there any conversation about more hardback compilations, anniversary editions, etc. of 1e material? It just seems like a goldmine of the older slim paperbacks that can be combined, slightly expanded and updated rather than just resigning it all to the past.

I would have to think this has been talked to death already, so pointers to anything would be invaluable! And given my newfound love for Pathfinder, any volunteer or opportunities to be part of updating content would be amazing!

Welcome to the party. Hope you will enjoy it all as much as I do.

Free online resources will help you greatly.

Archives of Nethys shows all the official PF2 stuff with Legacy and Remaster tags as well as PF1 stuff. It also has Starfinder 1 and 2 available.

Note that Starfinder 2 is 100% rules compatible with PF2 even if the assumptions, and thus the power balance of classes, are pretty different especially as far as flying and ranged combat are concerned.

PF1 is far too different from PF2 to be easily converted as far as mechanics go. The lore still holds true though in the very vast majority of cases.

The most egregious exception being the complete disappearance of drows as they were depicted in the Second Darkness AP due to the OGL debacle that made the Remaster necessary. And even that was pretty elegantly dealt with in the recent Vaultlines AP from what I heard.

Pathfinderwiki will help you tremendously as far as lore is concerned since they both sport free content and list the sources they use, thus indicating the books that are lore-heavy.

There was an official document out there with quick conversion ftom PF2 to Remaster rules that was released at the very beginning of the Remaster but with the search engine down with no ETA on sight I do not know where to find it.

Basically all PF2 material can be used almost as is with Remaster rules.

The 2 main exceptions are Alignment and specifically Aligned damage, replaced by spirit damage and the Holy/Unholy tags, and the 8 schools of magic. The closer you will find in Remaster for the latter are the very niche 7 sins of the Runelords.

Secrets of Magic, that dealt a lot with the latter, is thus not very applicable anymore, at least as far as the 8 schools lore is concerned.

You can find conversion works in the Homebrew section of the Paizo forums.

I would not expect any more PF1 APs / adventures to be officially converted though as Paizo (and especially the great James Jacobs) were pretty badly burned by the PF2 Kingmaker conversion.

Note that you also have a treasure trove of adventures for both PF1 and PF2 thanks to the Pathfinder Society Organized Play organisation and all its scenarios. And it also has its Starfinder counterpart.

Sadly, the recent disaster with the Diamond distributor going belly up hit Paizo hard. They were forced to lay off people and Pathfinder Society Organized Play was hit hard. At the moment, no future official Pathfinder Society scenarios are planned though other venues either official Paizo's or officially endorsed like Pathfinder Infinite kind of take the place.

Starfinder Society Organized Play scenarios have a slowed down release plan but they still have one.

And the team definitely hopes for things to get back to the way they were on this part.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all of that! It gives me a good starting point.

For the most part you'd just use a conversion guide that lists the rules changes, and when you encounter one of those things, you do the conversion. In a lot of old books it comes up but it's not that common.

Foundry has a useful list of the changes and what to do for a lot of them.

Lore was generally unchanged, though the world state has advanced in newer material. But that's not a remaster thing specifically and more "newer material incorporates lore from older material" situation in general.

There are some cases that are harder to deal with and those will require either looking them up to see what others have done, or just making a ruling.
