Sniper Class Guns

Starfinder Second Edition General Discussion

What am I missing when I look at Sniper Class guns? The Assassin Rifle seems to be the best one of the lot. It deals d10s, has Deadly d10s, Breakdown and has 1 Upgrade slot, no other Sniper Group Weapon seems that good, the Shirren-Eyed Rifle is good if you crit but when you cri you are doing at level at 3d10+2, same as the Assassin Rfile when you normal hit you deal 1d8+1, or 1d10+1 with the Assassin Rifle. This pattern holds true untill you reach your third weapon die and suddenly the math goes haywire (The math makes sense due to traits) The Shirren-Eyed Rifle deals on a crit 7d10+2 (6 from crit, 1 from fatal) while the Assassin Rifle deals 8d10+2 (6 from Crit, 2 from Deadly trait)

Both do have an upgrade slot, so what am I missing here?

Starfinder

You are absolutely right in your confusion, which is shared by much of the community. Especially considering that the Player Core had different stats in its first printing, which may have been missprinted, but made more sense.

Assassin: 1d10 Piercing base damage, analog, backstabber, fatal d12, kickback, unwieldy, volley 30ft

Shirren-Eye: 1d10 Piercing base damage, analog, deadly d12, kickback, unwieldy, volley

There the Shirren-eye was ay slightly worse weapon until elite, but then picked up, though Assassin Rifle had some sort of redeeming quality due to backstabber.
IMO, it needs another errata to give both weapons a niche. One for critical hits, one for better reliability.

Wayfinders

I would have said cost, but 20 credits cheaper might make a difference at 1st level, but 20 credits cheaper than 400100 is kind of pointless.
