Question about Kingmaker stuff for 5e

Kingmaker Second Edition

So I have the big Kingmaker book for 2e, and the 2e Companion, and the 5e Kingmaker monster book. My players want to play 5e, though.

So -- besides the monster book, what is out there for 5e? I guess the monster book is all that Paizo had done. But has anyone done 5e conversions of the Companion stuff (especially the camping and weather rules, because those will come up a lot)? And of course, are there Kingdom building rules for 5e?

Thanks much in advance --

Doug M.

No content for 5e otherwise. The Kingdom rules can be run as is in 5e since neither characters nor monsters have an impact on it other than their level.

As for running it in 5e: you'll need to convert a lot of DCs and loot as well. That's not taken care of for you. If you are planning to run it in a VTT, there's no real support for kingdom management outside of Pathfinder 2nd edition. Most people gave up on 5e because of that.

Well, dang.

The camping rules look interesting but finicky, and I saw one review that said they were too much trouble. I can probably freehand a simplified version. Weather, same same, though I definitely want weather to be a factor, especially at low levels.

But when the time comes, the kingdom rules could be crucial -- depending, of course, on whether my players want to go that route, which is TBD at the moment. We're doing Session Zero tonight, and starting with 1st level characters, so it will be a while. But I suspect they'll be interested and want to try it.

(Is there a version of the kingdom rules for players only? 1e, 2e, whatever? Like, I have the big Kingmaker book, but I can't really hand that over to the players.)

The Kingdom building rules are in the Kingmaker 2e Player's guide too.

But they're not viable as written.

Yah, I see that you did a correction post. Thanks for you work! I'm going to give that a long look.

We're almost done compiling a single document with the original rules, our first pass, our 2nd round of changes, and a final third round of errata and updates.

Camping was fun until we "solved" it, but after that we just did exactly the same routine every time with the goal of avoiding as many random encounters as possible and getting a specific buff that we wanted from the food. At that point it wasn't really worth doing anymore since it was a bunch of rolls without any real tension or anything interesting happening.

The best part was chatting with the companions and such, rather than the rolling, and you don't need mechanics for that at all since it's mostly narrative (toss in an influence roll if you're doing influence like how PF2 does it).

Getting food is pretty easy to trivialize in PF2 so that aspect ceased being interesting pretty quickly. I suspect 5e is similar in that regard once magic to do it comes online.

Definitely look up the house rule packages and issues posts about this. The Kingdom Rules are a mess RAW, IMO to the point of being unplayable. It's just not a fun system and a lot of players bounce off it hard.

Or just skip the mechanics parts entirely and use the events, otherwise treat the rest of it more narratively or with simple rolls.

The PF2 Kingmaker Players Guide has them. It's a free PDF. The first part of it won't be relevant for 5e players, but the kingdom rules are the same in both systems so that part has all the player facing rules.
