Ranged Taunting Strike

The 4th-level Guardian feat, Taunting Strike, states,

Note that it does not specify a melee strike.

My question is: Does this ability override the normal range of a Taunt? e.g., if I use Taunting Strike to fire, say, a Clan Pistol with a range increment of 80ft at a target 50ft away, does it still taunt them even though they are out of the normal taunt range of 30ft? Or does the activity simply fail the taunt part?

No, nothing in it overrides the range of the subordinate action Taunt. Long-distance Taunt is written in a way that applies to all Taunts, including subordinate actions, and is what you'd need to extend that range.

If it were phrased "the target's Taunted" then range wouldn't matter, but instead it's saying you Taunt the target, which is you getting a free Taunt action which would be subject to normal limitations (and perks too). So you'd benefit from the Long-distance Taunt feat if using a ranged weapon.

And it's 2nd level, which makes it hard to argue it gives you both action compression and a potentially longer version of a 1st level feat.

Thank you both!

Now to decide if my theoretical Vanguard Gunslinger Guardian wants to spend a feat slot on long-range taunt, or if I'm comfortable limiting his taunts to just 30ft...
