Question I had specifically regarding precious materials: in the Starfinder Core Rulebook, there seems to be no difference/need to buy better grade items.
“Regardless of a precious material’s purity, an item made from it gains the full effects of the precious material, but creating higher-level items and more powerful magic runes with precious material requires greater purity.”
- Starfinder Core 278
However, let’s look at the wording of Archaic trait:
“Archaic: This trait is applied to weapons crafted using traditional methods and materials. All weapons from the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game have the archaic trait. Weapon runes (see Pathfinder GM Core) function normally with archaic weapons, but these weapons have no upgrade slots.”
- Starfinder Core 245, 250, and 255
The wording in Pathfinder GM Core is different for how precious materials function with runes:
“Low-grade items can be used in the creation of magic items of up to 8th level, and they can hold runes of up to 8th level. Standard-grade items can be used to create magic items of up to 15th level and can hold runes of up to 15th level. High-grade items use the purest form of the precious material, and can be used to Craft magic items of any level holding any runes.”
- Pathfinder GM Core 253
My questions are does the new wording supersede the old wording? Or should Archaic items use the grade scale on if you can apply it based on the runes, but the Analog Upgrades ignore that? A third option?
Appreciate the help!
