As with some of you, I've been surprised at my reaction to this. I mean, it was a life well lived, and at 93, it's hard to mourn, right?
Darth Vader, Thulsa Doom, and Mufasa are all great, but my favorite James Earl Jones role has long been Terrance Mann from Field of Dreams. I have long thought Field of Dreams is the greatest example of American Romanticism in either film or literature. Favorite lines include, "I'm going to beat you with this crowbar...until you go away." And of course, the "people will come, Ray."
In the novel, Terrance Mann was J.D. Salinger, but they changed it for the movie to avoid litigation.

RIP, Mr. Jones.

Dang, this comment led me down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. I also learned that the author of the novel once stated in an interview that he believed that most of his readers believed that J.D. Salinger was a wholly fictional character.
