I always thought that getting a subscription PDF prior to the street date was something that usually happened but not a guarantee nor an official benefit from Paizo.
But I just filled out the AP survey they sent out, and one of the questions was:
"How important are the benefits for Adventure Path subscriptions to you?"
And one of the options for me to rank was:
"Free PDF before street date"
Which made me wonder if they changed their policy or was the survey option not to be taken as a literal benefit?
It's definitely not guaranteed, because at times I have had my subscriptions shipped after street date, and the free pdf is a perk that triggers at the point of shipping.
Having said that, the situations where it happens are few and far between and Paizo certainly try to make shipping for subscriptions happen so that product arrives on or before street date (for US customers, at least. I'm in the UK, so I never get my physical product that early).
So while it's not a guarantee, and it's not an "official benefit", it is a side effect of good business practice (people who have pre-ordered should get the product either before or at the same time as people who buy it at street date), and so it is a "benefit" that is part of the reason some people have a subscription.

I think thats part of why they're asking, to find out how important that particular quirk of it is.
