at level 4 you gain trained in a skill associated with your branch. But for example, Uzanjati only has one skill, and unless you are a terrible member of that branch, you are already trained in that skill by fourth level. So, what happens if you are already trained in all the branch's associated skill? Are you now expert?

Two things that may clear this up:
First, Uzunjati has two skills listed: Crafting and Lore. Lore, of course, is MANY skills, giving a lot of options.
Second, the branch level 4 benefit is "...gain[ing] a skill feat that requires the trained rank in one of the branch's associated skills" (Kindled Magic, pages 63-64). It's not training in the skill itself, but a skill feat.
