Live Action Spider-Man Noir

Television

So apparently Amazon has made a deal to make a Live action Spider-Man Noir series to show on Prime.

Gotta say, I don't hate the idea, done well it could be a pretty cool series.
Fingers crossed I guess.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's definitely not a show I am clamoring for (or many others I'm guessing). It could be good though, except for the fact that Sony is actually making it and Amazon is just distributing it. Sony doesn't have a good track record doing spider man adjacent stuff not part of the MCU.

Wait, Joel... isn't Sony the same company that gave us Spider Man 1-3, Amazing Spider Man 1-2, and the Spiderverse film? Like, shouldn't we use THAT to go from instead of Venom? Or do you think it'll be Morbin' time all over again?

The Sam Raimi Spiderman 1-3 was a long time ago and doesn't have much relevance to the current Sony plans, and same with ASM 1-2 (which weren't very good IMO anyway). Spiderverse is animated and Sony seems to be hands off and let them keep doing their thing there. As for live action, Venom, Morbin' time, the animal rights version of Kraven that's coming soon, all not good signs.

As for the Spiderman Noir, not much is known other than it's live action, but they did say it won't be Peter Parker, which seems especially dumb, but right up their alley, since the actual comic book character is an alternate world version of Peter Parker. Despite Spiderverse movies, and MCU embracing the multiverse, I'm guessing some Sony exec doesn't want to "confuse the fans" by having more than one Peter Parker (also despite literally having 3 of them in No Way Home). Regardless of their reasons, it seems like a bad sign.

Agreed 100% I am not a fan of what Sony is doing with Spiderman and his related characters at all. I LOVE the Tom Holland Spiderman movies but those are very much MCU movies.

I honestly will be thrilled if Marvel was able to get Spiderman back completely from Sony so we don’t have to have all this side stuff Sony keeps trying to push out.

Marc,

I think that would mean Disney shelling out more money and considering they are making cuts under Iger, I don't think we can expect that any time soon.

I am more cautiously optimistic about the other Sony/Amazon spidey show, Silk. I at least haven't heard anything about it that seems like a bad idea already. Also, quite honestly, it will fit the mold for what people are looking for in a superhero show a lot more than Spidey Noir will I think. Even if Noir is great, it's not something a lot of people will be lining up to watch is my guess.

Pass.

The labor cuts amount to about 3% in total workforce. It was more about Iger cutting out some excess fat, then any kind of money issues. Disney has PLENTY of money.

I wasn’t saying I think it would happen though, I just wish it would. Modern Sony is simply not doing what I personally want for Spiderman - they just seem to be flailing around tying to do something as good as what Marvel has done with the character.

In my perfect world, Marvel would have Spiderman free and clear and Sony could no longer do anything with him or any of his related characters or villians.

The latest Disney earning call did have Iger mention that they will be making some content cuts for streaming, but in the general enteratinment category, and that instead they'd focus on their own IP (i.e. Pixar, Disney animation, Star Wars, and MCU), so expect to see less originals on Hulu for things like Only Murders in the Building (though presumably more things like Aliens and Predator, etc.)
