Low-Light Vision, Dim Light and Normal Light

Rules Questions

Non-mechanical, Roleplay-based question.

Dim Light: "... Dim light does not affect creatures with low-light vision, which can see in dim light as if it were normal light."

If a creature with low-light vision was standing in a 1000ft radius field of Dim Light, and a source of 20ft radius Normal Light turns on 5ft behind them, can they tell?

I'd say yes, they'd be able tell the difference.
The mechanical rules line you posted is there to provide guidance on how PCs with low-light vision treat areas of dim light, not to suggest that dim light and normal light are indistinguishable. Dim light just isn't a hindrance to those PCs; it's still noticeably different from normal light, though (I suppose, in the same way that Human PCs can tell the difference between, but still operate effectively in, both Normal and Bright light.)
