Cavalier question: what does it take to waive a banner

I am playing a cavalier for the first time and I read the banner feature and each has a waive feature. I can't find what it takes to waive a banner in terms of action or even how often I can do it. Can anyone help me find the relevant rule for banner action and number of times usable

From the Greater Banner class feature description: "In addition, while his banner is displayed, the cavalier can spend a standard action to wave the banner through the air"
Note that this requires you to actually have the Greater Banner class feature, i.e. 14th level and not having it replaced by an archetype.
