I feel like I need a new forum topic with no drama or angst. Just a fun celebration of the hobby we love and share.

So let's share some of the common story. Over the many years of scenarios, who is your favorite NPC. The one you just can't forget. Maybe he or she was an adversary, a friend, or just someone you met along the way.

I'll go first. My favorite NPC appeared once, in PFS1 6-15, The Overflow Archives, by Scott Sharplin. Alas, poor Virmil. A Pathfinder wannabe, he could have been any of us. Sneaks into an archive to do a little after hours exploration -- tricked by a fey, tortured by tooth fairies and ends the scenario on Kreighton Shane's naughty list. In the end, he's a bit player in his own adventure as the PCs save the day. Poor fellow. Somehow, though, he stuck in my mind.

When second edition hit, he was one of the first three characters I built. Long term exposure to the First World affected my Virmil and he's now a Fey Sorcerer. I've had great fun giving this poor overlooked NPC a slightly more heroic history.

So who's that NPC that stuck with you, and why?

As a GM, my favourite NPC was probably Laori Vaus from Curse of the Crimson Throne. She is just a total hoot to play and I managed to get the PCs quite engaged with her and they ended up redeeming her.

As a player, my favourite NPC (not including followers, animal companions, etc) was from a non Pathfinder game. A NPC who turned out to be a good vampire sort (this was before Buffy was out. Yes, I'm old :-)) that my character fell in love with and married.

A couple of my favorite PFS NPCs include:

Valais Durant: Her three-scenario arc from being the victim of Thurl's vile experiments to being restored by fellow Pathfinders is fascinating. (And her shifting voices are great fun to portray as a GM!) When I learned that she became a faction leader in 2E, that clinched my choice of faction for my first PC in the new edition/campaign.

J. Dacilane: After learning about his reappearance in 2E, I made a point of running the two 1E adventures he appeared in, just to revisit the character. Representation matters, especially when it's handled this sympathetically. J's trans identity is never the main focus of the plot, it's just who he is.

Seconding Valais.

Also, Hats.

For PFS NPCs? Ekkie and Jackpot. Need a friend to console you? Take Jackpot. Need a friend who will beat up your enemies? Take Ekkie.

Gotta love good ol' Hats.

That being said, I really liked Valais to... she had great character development.

I also really liked Aram Zey, though this is an unpopular opinion. It wasn't that he was an a-hole (well, he was), but it was that his expectation were very high (probably based on his own skills), and not all Pathfinders met his expectations.

But it was playing him in Serpents Rise that I loved. His combination of taunting the Aspis with his knowledge that if something were to happen the Pathfinder Society would just raise him. But, it is probably my portrayal of him through six different runs, and how I refined his portrayal. My players... they may not have liked him so much!

I also really love running Rain in Cloudy Day (and my throat damns Thursty for telling us how he voiced the character). The over exuberant neophyte Pathfinder, who wants nothing but to impresses his superiors!

I also loved running Janira Gavix, for her perkiness and her joy in guiding and helping young Pathfinders.

I miss Osprey :(

I think he's Tim's so we just need him to come back and write some scenarios.

Or go visit the Moon instead of this silly Akiton place.
