Mechanics Combat Tracking

Rules Questions

Discussion at our table tonight. Does the Exo Mechanic lose its combat tracking when an enemy steps out of view?

Our GM required the Mechanic to take an action to redesignate combat tracking after the target moved into another room and was no longer within line of sight of the mechanic.

As long as that target is in sight, the exocortex feeds you telemetry, vulnerabilities, and combat tactics, allowing you to make attacks against that target as if your base attack bonus from your mechanic levels were equal to your mechanic level.

I would say your GM has a point. It specifically says as long as the target is in sight

GM has a point, but I don't think it's a good one. Losing sight of the target doesn't negate its designation as the target of the ability (nothing says it does). As such I would say that once the target comes back in sight the exo continues its tracking.

And it simply feels petty. The mechanic already has to re-designate for every new target, but to possibly have to do it for the same target multiple times doesn't really seem to be good game play or balance.

RAW I say yes, if the target gets out of sight, you loose your tracking.

But at my table I would say the target has to be completly out of sight for a specific time (e.g. 2 rounds) to loose the tracking (the exocortex predicts he target movement to a degree etc.).

This way enemies who are retreating can "shake off" the tracking and at the same time, the mechanic doesn't loose the target lock, everytime an enemy duck behind cover.

Yeah, Think Peg'giz has the best idea, though I wouldn't have them taking cover count as loss of sight.
