Ending Book One

Extinction Curse

Verdant Wheel

Hey everyone,

My party has become quite attached to Abberton and I want to make a bit of a big deal out of the ceremony mentioned in the Concluding the Adventure section of book 1.

I've so far got an idea of a ceremony in the small town hall, with Nellyn Drend, Mayor Jae Abber and Harlock Hamdeel all there. Any NPC's they have helped so far will be there and I have a big speech for the mayor to do at the end of the night and a few knowing nods to previously improved moments from earlier.

I was just wondering if anyone else made a bit of a scene of this, what did you do? Just that one line from the book gave me a fair bit of inspiration on how to send them on to Escadar, very curious to see what others have done.

I am also in that step, i will do also a bigger ceremony, and including some minor speeches from NPCS they helped in the town.

I saw a lot of complaints about PCs not getting attached to the story and wanting to focus on the circus rather than the world's impending doom. Hopefully, amping up this ceremony will give the party more of a tie to the world and have a reason to save it. But who can say what players will do?

In terms of not getting attached to the story, I saw that problem in book 1 mostly and book 2 once, both times when the party is told about some great evil/something going on somewhere else and they sort of said "And how is that our problem?" (The NPCs were able to plead with them and promise a fair reward so they went with it in the end). But there's a particular moment in book 2 where the PCs learn about the state of things that sort of establishes why they should care.

After that there's a pretty reasonable drive to try and save the world, if anything they seem to laugh at the idea that they're still trying to run a circus with everything else going on. That suspension of disbelief is only compounded by the line that they keep asking everyone they meet "Have you always dreamed of joining the circus?", and how often the answer is "Yes, please let me join your circus".
