Does Bon Mot affect Demoralize?

Rules Discussion

Does a successful Bon Mot affect a Demoralize attempt? Rules say Bon Mot applies a "-2/–3 status penalty to Perception and Will saves" and Demoralize is a skill attack versus Will DC.

Envoy's Alliance

Yep. "Your DC for a given statistic is 10 + the total modifier for that statistic." So any bonuses or penalties to a check also impose that same bonus or penalty upon the DC.

Bon Mot is pretty amazing when you're specialized in it.

Yeah Bon Mot + Demoralize + any wisdom save spell afterward is getting pretty gross in our campaign.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Successfully using Bon Mot on a foe would make Demoralize easier to succeed at.

But Bon Mot & Frightened (from Demoralize) are both status penalties so the targets Will saves won't be lower than they would from just Bon Mot. Still worth it for the more broad penalty that Frightened applies, but worth keeping in mind that their Will Save isn't 4 or 5 lower than normal, just the 2 or 3 that Bon Mot sticks on them.

Bon Mot & Frightened (from Demoralize) both apply status penalties so they don't stack.

Hopefully that solves that grossness. :)
