Foreshadowing

Abomination Vaults

After reading Book 1 and flipping through Book 2, I am thinking about what to foreshadow at the start of the adventure! (After moving to Foundry VTT we will finally start next wednesday.)

Things I have considered:
- Wrin having a vision of Nhimboleth
- Playing up Carman Rajani's unhappiness with the town
- Buidling a connection between the PCs with the daughter of Menhemes before she gets sick
- Brelda being distraught about the loss of her son

What should I add?

If you're looking for mood inspiration and how to set up some creepy lurking dread type foreshadowing... you could do a lot worse than to read the story that inspired me to create Nhimbaloth: Algernon Blackwood's "The WIllows."

Thanks for the recommendation but I am rather looking for information to drop in the beginning of the adventure so that it will have a satisfying conclusion when the adventure moves in that direction.

For example: If I play up Brelda being distraught about the loss of her son, it could be more satisfying if the PCs save him at the end of book 1. Or if the PCs have a connection to Dorianna Menhemes they will be much more involved when she gets sick in book 2.

So I am looking for those kinds of things, trying to add to my list :)

Ah; gotcha. Then I'd suggest looking at the numerous side quests in the adventure; many of them have links to town, and picking one for each PC to be pre-associated with would work well. For example:

Spoiler:
Rather than have the PCs find the boat with the Osprey Club clues on site, a rogue NPC could overhear their boss/patron/contact Yinyasmera talk about missing club members and her fears that they might have gotten in over their heads up in Gauntlight.

What I am doing is have each PC start with a connection to Wrin and one of the other key Otari PCs at the start, based on their background and backstory.
