It feels weird that the inventor can add traits to their weapons but have no special ways to take advantage of them.

I finally put my finger on something about the inventor that feels really weird. The weapon innovations let you put all these traits on your weapon, but then you don't see them interact with any other class options. The class begs to be multiclassed with the fighter to pick up feats like brutish shove and knockdown. Much better though would be if the class actually had a few feats to facilitate using maneuvers. Maybe something like 'when performing a maneuver that matches a trait gained from an innovation you can add your overdrive damage on a success' or 'on a critical hit with a weapon that has a maneuver trait added by a weapon innovation, you may attempt the maneuver as a reaction'.

I think all the innovations feel really underwhelming considering their something that's supposed to define that class that you only get to make three choices for, but that's a whole other beast.

If we did have feats like this, we'd also need some stuff for construct and armor users, since feats like that very much favor the weapon over the other two. I'm not opposed to getting more feats, but I think I'd rather get more stuff like Kickback Strike that give combat options that still match the flavor of an inventor that broaden out the inventor's martial capabilities over making too many of the feats poach from other lists

Well, with Armor innovations, we could have the resistances count as "thorns" damage dealt to enemies who use that kind of damage on you, and/or to add your Overdrive value to that damage if it is active.

Heck, having specializations being tied specifically to your innovation choice (armor specialization for armor innovation, weapon specialization for weapons, construct benefitting from either of your choice, etc.) Would be another way to make innovation choices stand out more. Of course, if an inventor has multiple innovation types, they'd have to choose one at the start of each day or something.

That's why I provided two examples that aren't based on feats from other classes. I think it would be very flavorful for the inventor who just added a trait to their weapon to have something built into the weapon that enhances the effect for a little bit. Perhaps whatever is responsible for adding trip or shove is secretly spring-loaded.

I haven't looked at Inventor thouroughly but if that is true it is odd.

I do feel it would be hard to make a feat for all the things the inventor could do with its potential weapon.

I dont think it is much of a problem to pick an archetype to benefit your specialization from your weapon. This is true for a lot of characters imo.

For example Druids can pick up some combat feats to improve wild shapes.

Sorcerers have bespell but will want a martial archetype to make use of it.

Wizards can make "athletics" better but have no feats supporting it etc.

That is pretty much how I play all my characters :)
