Magic Weapon Special Ability: Deceptive

Rules Questions

Hey fellow table top lovers,

i am wondering about the bonus type of this enchantment. I need some clarification to get this right.
_____________

The text says:

"A deceptive weapon’s shape blurs and appears to bend unpredictably.

When the weapon is in hand, the wielder gains a bonus on Bluff checks to feint equal to the enhancement bonus of the weapon. In addition, when the wielder successfully confirms a critical hit with a deceptive weapon against an opponent, she can attempt to feint against that opponent as an immediate action."
_____________

What kind of bonus is this? Just a bonus or an enhancement bonus? It says bonus but not any type in particular.

Would it be correct to estimate a enhancement bonus, because the spell "dazzling blade" needed to create this ability gives an enhancement bonus as well?

Thanks a lot!

best wishes and stay healthy!

Jczak

It's an untyped bonus. It doesn't transfer the weapon's enhancement bonus, it applies a bonus equal to the enhancement bonus.

@Derklord

thank you very much for your respond :)

are there some more arguments, proofs, other examples to strengthen the untyped bonus property or an opposition to make this more clear?

in addition, untyped bonuses stack?

"Bonuses without a type always stack, unless they are from the same source." CRB pg. 208

I think two deceptive weapon would count as the same source.

? :)

There isn't really an opposition because it doesn't state a type, and typeless bonuses are a thing that exist.

Someone might say that most magic items impart a Competence bonus, so it should be that, but there are plenty that don't so that's nonsense. Or they might say it's an Enhancement bonus because it comes from the weapons Enhancement bonus... but that isn't what the text says, and is also probably irrelevant (unless you somehow have an enhancement bonus to Feinting). And some might compare it to the PSFG Duelling and say it should be a Luck bonus like that is, but honestly that's just asking for trouble with Fate's Favoured.

So no, as written it's typeless, and there's no reason for it not to be typeless.
