Adventures and indepth info on Mwange Expanse / jungles?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

While I'm running one short campaign, I'm doing research on the next. One of my favorite things is jungles; Golarion's Jungle is the Mwange Expanse, so I was wondering what all the products that deal a lot with it are?

I know the Serpent's Skull adventure path, Heart of the Jungle setting book, and River into Darkness module. Is that it? Any Pathfinder Society adventures I could track down, or modules I'm missing?

(In addition I have the Razor Coast stuff, but that's mostly pirate business *set* in a jungle. Also I know the Savage Tides AP has the Isle of Dread, but I don't have that material.)

At least Age of Ashes volume 2 plays in the Expanse. Can't tell you more as I am not the GM.

The Lost Omens World Guide book goes into a fair amount of stuff that's changed in that area over the course of the timeline change between PF1 and PF2. The Lost Omens Character Guide also goes over a number of people's native to the area.

In more depth, Book 2 of the Age of Ashes Adventure Path occurs entirely in the Mwangi Expanse and has an article on the culture of the Ekujae Elves as well as talking a bit about the Orcs and Half Orcs of the area and what's happened to the Charau-Ka after the death of the Gorilla King.

Within the next year or so, we've also got a whole hardback book for the Mwangi Expanse and an AP centering around the Magaambya (the magic university following in the footsteps of Old Mage Jatembe) coming up, but those aren't out yet.

Lots of spoilers for PF2e scenarios...

Spoiler:

The second adventure in the Age of Ashes Adventure Path -- Cult of Cinders -- takes place in the western part of the Expanse, around a settlement of Ekujae elves. It includes rules for jungle survival and exploration.

PFS2 1-20 The Lost Legend takes place in the border between the Sodden Lands and the Mwangi Highlands. It will give you a good idea of the geography and the type of encounters you can expect in that area.

PFS2 2-00 The Thorned Monarch is a follow-up to 1-20. The first two parts take place a little deeper into the highlands and jungle, and has many examples of the challenges you will face there.

A full hardback? Ooh, intriguing.

Although I'm not really interested in changes/updates--the Golarion expanse is already more colonized than what I'm looking for. Basically I'm planning to run a Kingmaker-esque game where the PCs are part of the first efforts to establish a colony/explore/stake claim.

Now, I don't know where to find those PFS adventures, but I am quite interested.

The timeline changes involve fewer outsiders being in the Mwangi Expanse rather than more, IMO. Several groups have been driven out, is the implication.

Which is not to say it's uninhabited, there are lots of people who live there, specifically the native peoples of the area.

That's cool, actually. You don't typically see colonizers uprooted like that.

Side note: Does Golarion have a Meso-American analog? The Amazon, Aztecs, etc?

Yeah, it's an interesting direction for the setting to go in and I'm excited to see more of it.

They do. The continent of Arcadia appears to have rough analogues for most Native American cultures. It sadly hasn't been detailed too much, though Book 5 of the Tyrant's Grasp AP does travel to the Mesoamerican equivalent and give some details of a specific culture there.

They're unlikely to deal with the same issues real Native American cultures did when coming into contact with Europeans due to having been in low level ongoing 'trade across the sea' contact with the Land of the Linnorm Kings for a long time now (so no disease issue), and a lack of technological gap between the two continents.

PFS1 series "Scions of the Sky Key" (#6-12, #6-14, #6-16) is set in Sargava (Vidrian in PF2) and includes jungle-romping.

You can find season 1 scenarios here and the season 2 ones here (also, I misstyped in my previous post: 2-00 is actually called The King in Thorns; "The Thorned Monarch" was the name of another lead-up scenario). You might need to click on the "All Products" tab to see all the scenarios.

I just remembered that 1-09 Star-Crossed Voyages and 1-23 The Star-Crossed Court also take place in southwestern Garund (the name of the continent where the Mwangi Expanse is located), although they're mostly concerned with a newly rediscovered island populated by an ancient colony of lizardfolk.

Silver Crusade

The Ire of the Storm module takes place not too far from the Mwangi Expanse. It's set in and around a new Sargavan colony.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned The Slithering yet. It is set in Kibwe.
