Gear Clamp + Flashlight

Rules Questions

Can you use a gear clamp to attach a flashlight to your armor and use it hands free?

That's what my character does ^_^

A gear clamp is designed to place a piece of equipment into an easily accessible position. This is often on a belt or the exterior of a suit of armor, but it can also place equipment in convenient locations when you are lurking in a tree or working in a zero-g environment. Affixing a gear clamp in place is a full action, but any object easily and conveniently held in one hand can be added to or removed from a gear clamp as easily as drawing or sheathing a weapon.

Flashlights and Lanterns take 1 hand.

I don't think that is how a gear clamp is intended to be used.

You still have to be holding the item in order to be using it properly.

It is more like a bandolier. Just a place to store equipment to make it more accessible than being in a bag or pouch.

I guess if the flashlight casts light in a radius, that would work. But the directed light in a cone, you couldn't decide which direction it points in. But this is just houseruling on it.

Depending on why you're trying to use a flashlight hands-free, you can use a uniclamp to attach one to an longarm, heavy weapon, or sniper weapon. (Armory pages 58-61)

Gear clamp= caribeaner

Ya'll want a uniclamp to duct tape a tool to your weapon. It specifically lets you use a flashlight

This all-purpose accessory can hold a single handheld item of up to 1 bulk, such as a fire extinguisher or flashlight, so you can use the item while wielding the weapon. A uniclamp requires as many rails to attach to a piece of equipment as the equipment requires hands to operate. Attaching an item to a uniclamp or removing it is a full action.

My problem is that some of my PC's don't use weapons that are longarms. For some of them I add the light projector upgrade to their armor, but I want a second light source for them since sometimes you need to sources of light to raise the light level to normal. I know I can just get them cybernetics so they have dark vision, but sometimes I just prefer to have that scary flashlight in a dark and dangerous starship type of of feeling.

Com links have lights and armor has comlinks. They aren’t great lights but ok as a hands free backup.

I know, but I was hoping to get something just a little better than a 15' cone.

*shrug* Well, unless this is for a society game, just houserule it so that it works.

* Built-in light in the armor is equivalent to a flashlight.
* Gear Clamp / Uniclamp can attach a flashlight to your armor.
