I'm playing around with trying to make a hologramatic emiter for starships (basically a way for a ship VI to interact with things beyond the 30' range of the hologramatic emiters in starship operations.
I can generally see where I want to go with this - computer, communicator, hologram generator = mobile emiter. I'm going to need to tone down the costs of the generator a bit given this isn't pathfinder so it doesn't need to be such a rare, powerful item. Unless there's a starfinder variant I don't know about. Otherwise it should be reasonably straightforward to create a budget and deluxe variant.
However what I'm not sure about is what tier computer (I'm thinking 3+) would be required to run a VI. What tier would people suggest to run a starship VI program? Just keep in mind for suggestions I want a budget and a deluxe model so two levels appreciated e.g. budget tier 3 computer and deluxe tier 6.

This is a fun idea. I actually had a similar idea with my GM before the SOM came out.
Technically computer tier is irrelevant since T1 starship can have one. So you can basically ignore anything like that. Personally I'd treat it either as an independent item or a computer module.
Unseen servant is a level 1 spell with similar effects to a VI, so looking at the price for a similar level 1 spell item is a good idea, like the holoskin.
Another track you can go down, and probably closer to your intent, is comparing pricing for spell equivalent items at all spell levels and model the item more like the summon line of spells, essentially draining 1 charge per round for the VI to manifest, which seems costly, but all things considered is probably fair for portability.
The best idea possibly is to merge the two, an unseen servant equivalent projection (non-combat capable) for low charge cost and then a higher charge cost for combat skills based on the summon line. Following the jetpacks lead essentially.
For simplicity it's probably best to keep the VI a medium sized creature or smaller. Possibly real small allowing a slightly better charge cost?
Of course if this is for a recurring NPC, the unseen servant track is the better option probably. If it's just a fun toy for players, they'll probably favor the combat utility option, depending on play style. Though if this is to be a PC or recurring NPC, it may be best to waive cost entirely and tie it to story. Steal or "aquire" the tech from a megacorp.

I'm aiming for a red Dwarf/Star Trek style emitter (made a thread with what I have). The emitter itself is just a projection device that can produce a medium or large (for the better models) creature. The current variant has prices lowered (significantly in the top level model) and the computer removed its just a remote operation emitter with prices based more around the holographic project spell costs.
I've also been considering a licensing/production cost of a 1-3 BP on a ship so it can produce them as needed for the group. Its still a work in progress but as I've been away for the last week with work I've not had much chance to work on them.
