Which would be a better weapon layout do people think?

Scarab Sages

Just looking for second opinions on which is a better weapon layout in terms of weapon placement.

Layout 1.
Forward
2 linked direct fire weapons.
1 missile weapon.
Port
1 direct fire weapon
Starboard
1 direct fire weapon
Rear
1 direct fire weapon
1 missile weapon.
Turret
1 direct fire weapon
1 point defense weapon.

Layout 2

Forward
2 linked direct fire weapons.
1 missile weapon.
Rear
1 missile weapon.
Turret
2 direct fire weapons
1 point defense weapon.

Layout 1 has more choices in the case of damage as turrets count in all arks from my understanding but Layout 2 frees up more PCU and build points.

Of the two you've posted, probably layout 2.

If you have a good pilot, and depending on level I'd probably do something like:

Front:
2 linked weapons
1 cheaper weapon (point?)

Sides:
1-2 cheaper weapons (point?)

Rear:
If you have spare BP, buy something here, if not leave it empty.

Turret:
2 linked weapons
1 direct fire weapon or missile weapon

Hmmm I'd rather avoid turret linking for aesthetics not mechanics. By putting a double linked weapon on the front i can pretend its a spinal mount for the ships that dont get that.

Thanks for the feedback though.

What do you want to design? An agile attack craft? An upgraded freighter?

Although from those two designs the 2nd one is superior in nearly all cases as it has superior or equal firepower in all arcs.

The first one would only be better if you are surrounded by enemies and have enough gunners to fire all weapons.

On the other hand, if you mount your weapons primarily on port or starboatd, instead of fore/aft, that is a 120 degree arc instead of a 60 degree arc.
