Threads and campaigns and all

Online Campaigns General Discussion

OK, I am confused.

I have a campaign, I have default game thread. The campaign does not seem to create more than one action thread. Yet I can apparently create a new thread in the play by post section of the board by clicking "new thread". So does this later thread just float, unattached to any campaign? Should I click create and just find out? I'd like an example thread for various purposes in my but can wait 'till tomorrow so I'm asking.

Under Campaign, you get six (6) tabs.

Campaign Info (open to only you)
Gameplay (open to everyone)
Discussion (open to everyone)
Recruitment (open to everyone)
Players (open to only you)
Characters (open to only you)

If you create a new thread in the Play-by-Post forum, that thread will just hang out there and not be attached to your Campaign.

You can get around this if you go into the Campaign and "detach" the current Gameplay thread, and then "connect" the new one. I have seen where folks running AP's (especially Kingmaker) have multiple Gameplay threads based on the AP book, and they just put a link to the old thread in the Campaign Info tab.

Creating a new thread from the forum will just create a new campaign.

As Papa DRB says, you can "attach" a campaign to a new thread but the old one will no longer be connected.

I'm not sure what you mean by "an example thread" but if you're trying to post an example of what gameplay should look like you can put it in your campaign description and everyone can reference it when they need.

If you click Add New Thread in the Play-by-Post forum, then, yes, you will get a thread unattached to any campaign.

As the system presently works, as Papa-DRB says, you can only have three threads actively connected to a campaign: one gameplay, one discussion, one recruitment. But you don't have to connect a gameplay thread to a campaign. It's the way the system used to work before Paizo introduced the campaign-management tool: you'd just create, say, a recruitment thread, then link to a discussion thread, then link from there to a gameplay thread. The messageboards didn't offer the option to make a "boxed set" of them at the time.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

For an example of one way to do it, look at DM Alexander Kilcoyne Kingmaker Campaigns

He unfortunately had some medical issues that forced him to stop DM'ing but the way he set up his Kingmaker campaigns by book/chapter with interludes for Kingdom building stuff is a great way to do something like that.

OK, I think I understand what the format it now.
