What it says on the tin. The Algal Shielding says it functions as a Hydroponics garden, and I just want to double check if that means it takes up 2 expansion bays or not.

Nope. It doesn't say it uses expansion bays, and the description makes it clear that the Algal Shielding is built into the hull.
