How do pronounce Magdh?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I know, another pronunciation thread but I'm still curious. It looks kind of like Gaelic but I'm pretty sure it's just a word Paizo made up.

There is an Irish word (unless you're not calling Irish Gaelic but referring to Scots Gaelic):

magadh, it's the verb for mocking, one would be "ag magadh" if they were mocking someone/something.

You can hear the pronounciation in three different dialects HERE!

Remove the extra "a" sound and your close. I have bad Irish, and don't come from a Gaeltacht, but I'd phoneticise it in text something like mawghh.

If the "gdh" is meant to be all one consonant, though, it's probably either "Mav" or "Mae".

(Insert standard grumble about terrible decisions in default transliteration of Irish in Latin alphabet here.)

lol I agree. Is the "Mav" like the first syllable in "Maverick"? Or with a long A? Also is Mae like in Mae West or are the two vowels pronounced seperatley?

I think it ends in an aspirated stop, like in sanskrit.

The first of these.

Again the first of these.

Never would have thought all the years of sitting through compulsory Irish class would come in useful this far down the line, but glad to be of help.
